I did an aftermarket carpet in my 88 civic, and it was pretty good and not too hard to trim up, but definitely didn't like how it bubbled in some areas and didn't fit nearly as good as oem. I will donthis next time for sure. I think its worth however getting it professionally cleaned and steamed cleaned with industrial equipment. The cleaner it is, the better the paint sticks. I like how you used a garden sprayer. Good idea

Looks good! Things I've learned over the years is start with a pack of powder with 2 gallons of water and 1 cup white vinegar and use that mix as a "primer" next you can switch to a bottle to get it black black. When done I suggest setting the dye with vinegar and then rinse the pad again. I have had mats bleed onto my shoes in higher temps..not Everytime but a couple times my shoe soles have turned black 😅

Giancarlo! thanks a lot dude! Yeah, for something so inexpensive and just requiring some prep work in cleaning it, it’s so worth while. I only wiped in the dye after the last coat. After all three bottles were sprayed down on it the carpet got more saturated with the dye, you know. So only at the end did I feel it was necessary to wipe the dye in to the fiber but see how it goes for you. Maybe you’ll feel you want to do it after each coat. It’s holding up very well, thank you! I don’t usually have many passengers so it’s pretty easy to keep the carpet clean really. But the color is holding great. I’ll have to make an update video to show everyone

i pressure washed mine then soaked with Dawn dish soap, and then i scrubbed really good, then pressure washed it again and hung it out in the Florida sun for most of the next day, i could have used a wet-vac to speed it up but i had other projects i was working on, so it was all good!

So how is it holding up? Automotive carpet is more of a plastic fiber not a cotton one so it doesn’t absorb the Rit it just kind of dries to the fiber. If it gets wet watch out!

If the carpet smells moldy though, just cleaning it probably won’t help, right?

Not sure. I’d still try it! Any carpet you get from a junkyard would be stinky too I’d imagine haha so try to clean yours first. Otherwise buying a pre-made piece may be the way to go for you

Nice! Looks awesome! I sprayed my with the vinyl and fabric paint in my civic without pulling it all the way out of the car and I was happy. I came close to pulling mine out and doing the same as you with the dye. Glad to see you doing all the work and progress.

1iLLnoize1 I was using Duplicolor vinyl paint. If you use it make sure to follow the instructions. Spray in one direction. right before the next coat, use a nylon brush on the fabric to spread the paint and soften material, then paint in the perpendicular direction.
