2 Sundown X12's on 8000W in a 2015 COROLLA Walkthrough

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

PLEASE READ FOR INFO AND ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
ALSO, I TOOK THE BUILD OUT IN 2021.
2 Sundown X12's in the trunk
Taramps MD8k 2 ohm Edition
Taramps DS800x4 2 ohm edition for mids
SKAR SPX components up front, Pioneer 6x9's in the back
250A CES Alternator running at 13.8v (has since been upgraded to 14.8v, voltage in the video was hitting 12.5-6. With the current 14.8v regulator I don't see it go under 13v too often, even with more power on mids and bass)
45aH Limitless Lithium Battery, Duralast platinum AGM 55Ah up front.
Box is 3.97 cu. ft net tuned at 31Hz (33L x 15H x 28D), built by CustomLowZ (Yes it's too small, but I was also running well over double the rated power through them, smaller boxes give more box rise, and allow you to run more power without bottoming them out as easy with a lot of extra air space.)
Metered a 148.7db at 30Hz with "outlaw rules" (Meter in the kick, driver side door open)
**WHY I HAVEN'T SEALED IT OFF YET**
I'm lazy, and I don't plan on keeping this build in this car much longer. I can't really find a temporary seal that will hold up, plus I'm pretty happy with the wind as is. I may look more into a temporary seal but the blankets won't work anymore lol. I'm already breaking stuff on my basically brand new car with these subs, so I'm probably going to have to evacuate these sooner than I hoped, and switch to an SQ build, or something way smaller. I've already broken the passenger side window actuator, trunk latch, fuel pump, and a few other things, just with the bass as is. The next goal is 6 X12's in another vehicle some day, in either 6th or 4th order bandpass or something of that nature. But I'd rather buy some shitter and beat the hell out of that instead of my daily car that's only a few years old.
Things added since this video was recorded:
Upgraded to a Taramps MD12k .5 edition (tuned at 10k)
14.8V Charging Regulator added to the alternator
Deaf Bonce Arnold 6.5's in the rear
Deaf Bonce Sylvester 6'5's in the front, with SKAR SPX Tweets and crossovers
Upgraded to a Sundown SFB-500.4 for mids
SPL Cartel Mini Bass Knob
Songs in order they are played during the video:
24 box - bigpimpin91
21 Savage - X (Official BassBooster Version)
Bones - Where the trees meet the freeway
Big Krit - Talkin bout nothin
Riff Raff & G-eazy - Mercedes
Also no more window videos, I think I fucked something up or set an alarm off inside, because they started parking cars there ever since I recorded this lmao.

    GuitarHeroGage that was my concern, I still like that 40-60 Hz and don’t want a hole in the sound stage cuz the subs drop off so early. I have W7s now on maybe 1500 W & they do sound really good on most music so I don’t want to sacrifice that for just all lows & have to listen to Rebass music. My subs in a sealed box play a lot of these songs but obv w/ a lot less output than what you are doing. I can’t fold my seats down so I know that affects the output as well. • @GuitarHeroGage

    @GuitarHeroGage

    2 жыл бұрын

    It wasn't actually getting 4k RMS to each, I'd say it was most likely getting 2.5k to each because of box rise. I do have them on a 12k at .5 and they could be getting 3-4k each though. They can definitely take it, but you have to be mindful of what you're playing (such as gain overlap, tuning, and who made the song). I don't mind Taramps, both of my big amps have been Taramps and they haven't had any issues. I hear CAB is good though so you're fine with them as well. But you won't actually get 4.5k out of that CAB due to box rise. Depending on how the subs handle the enclosure and how it was made, usually x2+ is normal. Unless you're running that cab at below .5 ohms, you'll probably get like 3k or less.

  • @unix696
    @unix6963 жыл бұрын

    How did they take the power? I have two on a salt 4K and was thinking about picking up one more and strapping them to a .5 ohm load to each amp.. (1ohm strapped) also have mine in a 11 Corolla..

  • @GuitarHeroGage

    @GuitarHeroGage

    3 жыл бұрын

    They handled it fine, but it depends on your gain overlap I suppose. I set mine at -3db and i could play -5db and -7.5db songs all day. But songs that run -3db I can only play 1 song, most likely was getting 3-4k into each sub on those songs (with my MD12k at .5), so you just have to play with it and figure out it's limits. I also have a taramps amp with a lot of box rise, and a box that's way too small for them. So 2 salt 4k's at .5 could probably be their limit. Worse case you can get upgraded softparts if you blow them lol.

    Hey get rid of the limitless battery and get you some good lithium bro. I would love to see how your voltage drops. I’m pretty sure it’s significant. My 96ah headway bank on a 256 amp alt from eBay keeps my voltage at 13.9-14.6 on 4 SAV2 12s and a sundown 8k. I watched your vid because I’m switching to U15s or X12s v2 but just watching your vid when you first started Playing the first song you can see the difference in the power after a few seconds judging from the rag you had in the window. I went with headway because it’s budget friendly. But there’s definitely better options out there. But headway will out perform that limitless battery every day.

  • @GuitarHeroGage

    @GuitarHeroGage

    Headways literally use the same chemistry as limitless blues lol.... Both are just LiFePO4 cells. My limitless was 45Ah, if I had 96Ah of Limitless, it would have been the exact same as yours (you can Google both of them, hell Limitless may even use headway cells for all I know). The difference between the songs are the gain overlaps, my cars peak was 30Hz, I got the most air movement at 26-29Hz. The first song was 24Hz@-5db, the 2nd was 29Hz@0db. I kept my gain overlap at -3db, so the 2nd song was clipping super hard, not all songs are made the same if you're using different artists/rebassers. The first song was just to show off the flex of the subs. The lowest I would get my voltage was to 12.6V from 13.9V (0db songs would easily do that, but they are clipping, so I never played them for long). Taramps are rated at 12.6V keep in mind. I no longer have this build in the car, but I definitely knew what I was doing...

    Yea, its a bit windier, but with the way its tuned right now im probably only clamping 2-3k more than I was before, which is probably only like 7k-8k total. This box has quite a bit of rise because it's so small, I was rising to like 5 ohms - 5.5 ohms from 2 ohms with my 8k. The MD12k does have a .5 stable version though which helps fight the rise, if you wanted to go all out then you can get the MD12k, But you definitely have to be mindful of the songs you are playing, even with the 8k you have to be careful, because the max these things will take in a daily is around ~3k RMS each from what i've heard.

    @@WifeBTR123 Some Mercedes and BMW for example do have rear batteries, and also heavy wiring, and electronics near the battery, aka designed for it. You will have better cranking and ECU performance having some type of battery up front, and it also aids the alternator with "filtering" the dc output from the alternator. You can substitute a capacitor for a battery up front, but a battery is better. Also, you can parallel lead and Lithium for over-discharged conditions to "trick" the internal BMS of the Lithium to allow charging again, for Lithiums that refuse charging. Speaking from experience and not "I heard" The charging system of a car is 14.4v cold, 13.8V hot, and the battery chemistry doesn't matter as long as system voltage is properly regulated by a proper alternator. BTW, Gel is slightly different than AGM, as AGM prefers higher voltage, and Gel performs down to lower voltages a bit better, which is why they are best used for mobility equipment. AGM paralled with Gel gives you more cranking amps and better deep cycling. Same if you parallel Lead and Lithium.

    I had a 250a alternator, and if you're wanting to run serious power, I'd look at lithium batteries. I'd get limitless lithium personally (blue version, LiFePO4). You could get LTO cells, but you usually need 16V charging for those I think. I'm not sure how the car would react to that. My RPMs also drop from time to time when there's a load on the alternator, but I haven't had any other issues besides that. Amp wise, all depends on the budget, but if you have the money, I'd get the sundown SALT series, maybe a 6k-8k. Any Korean built amp you can't really go wrong with. Taramps are a good cheap alternative, but they are also cheap for a reason, I had 2 and never had issues with them though. I've seen JP's amps doing pretty good things, maybe those wouldn't be too bad either.

Now I have SHCA 2/0 and I haven’t tried to buy lugs for those at tractor supply. Just got the SHCA lugs for them though but I would guess 2/0 would be about 5/0 or 6/0 welding cable size. Low frequencies you cant hear too well from far away, so the X series may not be the best. U or SA would be pretty good for getting really loud. Amp wise, I'm not sure anymore who makes the best amps. Korean amps: Sundown, JP (Down4sound), and Crescendo are pretty good. Brazilian amps: Banda and Taramps are like the only ones I know, they both do well. If you plan to run over 1500W, you for sure need to look into alt and battery upgrades. Brand X makes some of the best alts right now, and may not be a bad idea to look into lithium if you want to run some serious power.

    Yes, I lose a lot of my low end and wind, and it ended up being about the same on the meter, so i just flipped it back around.

    Always a good idea, the 2015 corolla only has a 100 Amp alt from what I've seen. I've always heard after 2000W RMS you need to get a new battery. Realistically you'll probably only get like 2.3k max RMS out of that thing unless you wire it into the dirt, so you could be fine just upgrading the front battery. But i'd hook up a volt meter and see what the drop looks like. It idles at 13.8V so if it starts getting into low 12's you need to do more for power.

  • @GuitarHeroGage

    @GuitarHeroGage

    I like them, i've seen people complain, but they've been good for me. I had an Orion HCCA5000 and it had a different sound to it for sure (people say clean korean power). But I still needed more power and just went with an MD12k instead of dropping well over $1500 on a korean 8k+. If you can afford Korean i'd go with one, otherwise taramps, soundigital, and banda are great alternatives.
