2 Nights Winter Bushcraft Camping & Fire Cooking 🔥 Building & Sleeping in a Natural Debris Shelter

Building and living in a cosy lil shelter in the woods was one of my favourite experiences so far :D During this 2-day trip I built a debris shelter using dead wood, leaves and a bit of paracord. I cooked delicious lamb on the fire, purified standing water, made fire with birch bark & ferro rod and built a (slightly wonky but cute) fire reflector
While the shelter was hard work to build, and time consuming (just the shelter itself took me 6-7 hours to create), it went soo much better than I was expecting it to and I can’t wait to keep learning and trying more things like this!
Thank you so much for watching 😊 Much love, Claire 🌿🐻

From the 'glamping' to the wild camping on the side of stormy mountains and now on to the bushcraft, things you like to see :) . Once you take your first walk down 'Bushcraft Road' there's no going back, lady :) . Bushcraft tips? Learn the basic knots, you only need to master a few of them. Here's 2 of the best videos on that subject: Bushcraft Essential Knots: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c56gl6hvmbjAj9Y.html The 3 Essential KNOTS for Tarps | Camping & Bushcraft | : kzread.info/dash/bejne/lplmtcmkhqXfktI.html Learn your plants and fungi, it's amazing what we walk past in the woods and don't even realise it: kzread.infovideos (Their book is superb too) Another great channel: kzread.infovideos (not for snowflakes) Warning: There's one plant out there, Claire, that can be best descibed as Britain's answer to the triffid and I'm not joking when I say that. It's deadly and can easily maim and injure anyone who touches it. Here's Alfie's video on this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ln6Gssh7h7uop9o.html (learn to identify this plant) Congrats on your first real bushcraft video, it was a pleasure to watch it.

I've tried a few times and even been shown by a friend but most of them I seem to forget as soon as I've learnt them.. not doing them often enough I suppose. I've heard a lot about the giant hogweed, causes blindness & all sorts doesn't it! Thank you so much for the useful links, I'll do some watching when I've got a bit of time and thank you for watching my attempt at this, I'm looking forward to trying more in future :) 🌿💚 Claire

The unique feeling you get seeing everything wake up and come alive with the scent, sounds and sights is something no one can accurately describe with words. The coldest time of any day is that time the sun rays peek over the horizon. A light cold breeze cuts across the land as the Earth wakes up. Thumbs Up!

Hi Claire, I have to say this was one of the most enjoyable vlogs you have done. Building your own shelter and getting to enjoy it for 2 nights is no small thing, and it was easy to see the pride and happiness it brought you. I have to say you are one of the most nature-amicable Bushcrafter/Wildcampers on KZread. Even when struggling with weather, wildlife, or terrain, you still seem to inwardly enjoy the experience of being there. I think the harshest thing I've ever heard you say was to scold a slug as being "Rude" for exploring the inside of your mug. Keep that, it's a wonderful quality! Warmest regards from Canada (It's currently -34C)

I think this might be one of my favourite videos yet. Brilliant shelter build, it looked so snug and cosy 😊. Not sure I could get away with this in our local woods, as all the flat bits are criss crossed with footpaths which get busy with dog walkers as soon as it gets light. Looking forward to seeing more bushcrafty goodness in the woods!

Hi Rach! Aw yay I'm so glad you liked it, I had such a blast doing this 😍 Mmm I know what you mean, it's only these woods that I can get away with this sort of thing, hardly anyone goes there. There's some traffic noise unfortunately but soo lovely and undisturbed otherwise. Have a lovely day 💚🌿 Claire

I have done that before , used dead limbs and trees camping and plastic garbage bags to make it water proof . Worked great , made a teepee with opening at the peak so I could make a fire inside

Brilliant vlog Claire, awesome way to stay over in the woods. We used to make them yrs ago but had fallen pine and conifer branches as covers. Shows how strong it was at the end. Keep enjoying yourself, always interesting, helpful and fun to watch. All the best 💚

Claire, that was so good! You did a great job of the shelter and, what an effort it was to bring it down. You certainly made it strong and the triangle design is a winner! The firewall was such a clever design. Loved the idea of creating slots to drop the logs into, which wouldn’t have occurred to me. Shame the logs were a bit wonky, but you could always plug those gaps with mud and leaves. Really enjoyed seeing you do something a wee bit different 👍🏻

Good day lovely shelter as long as you keep the sparks away from it Trick for making fire wood without a saw Right behind your shelter is a tree with a V in it Take the branches you want to "cut" down to size put one end in the V of the tree 6 in 12 in what ever works for you Then push or pull the branch it should snap off at whatever size you need NOTE some wood is very fibery that kind does need a saw Have a good week

With just leaves on the outside hope you didn't get alot of strong winds that would blow down your walls. I have done the same but I used moss and leaves. You're quite the outdoor spirit, if I were 40 years younger I might do it some more. I loved camping. Birch bark is a natural fire starter you can take it out of a stream and it will light. Here in colorado we use aspen bark not quite as good but it works now get yourself a flint and steel. love your vids.
