My first multi-night adventure since I busted up my ankle.. it started so calm and mild, and gradually descended into beautiful chaos. I loved it so much

Nice vid! The alien slime is actually the vomit from a heron or a mink (for example) When they eat a frog or a toad who is carrying eggs (which are held in jelly inside) the jelly is solid. After their "passing" the jelly expands enormous in the belly of the predator. The predator then vomits to get rid of it. It is known as star shot.

@@WildBeare stop worrying about your ankle it will be just fine. I did worse to mine and I still hike with canvas short boots/shoes. This is an area of argument but many people think that a busted ankle is better than a broken chin bone and wearing what I call mountain boots did feel me not only leg but my knee almost break. Where if I was wearing my normal canvas boots it would have been a nothing. That’s not to say mountain boots have no use! Just not in the situation you are in. Gators? That’s also a strange area. Some like them some don’t. I use leather ankle high ones to keep brush out of my boots that’s it. Most proper water crossings I do are about knee hight so gators are useless. Yes there is an argument allowed. But it was not you in a hypothermia situation and your bloody gators were frozen closed. I don’t know how my feet didn’t freeze entirely…bonus to proper mountain boots and double zipper sleeping bags

Hi! Loved the vid, keep going please. Quick note (I'm a country boy), don't be afraid of cows unless they're with calves and you are with a dog, in which case they will try to kill you and the dog. The cows you passed through weren't cows, they were steers ( castrated bullocks) i.e. beef. They are the most docile creatures and delightful company. They will make a bee line for you if you go in a field because they're curious about you. That's why you thought they were chasing you; they will keep up with you until you stop at which point they will stop also. This is the point townies start panicking, you're surrounded and you can't outrun them. If you're gentle and blow through your nose into their noses ( bear with me, this sounds weird but it's the same with horses), you will discover that rather like horses they are friendly, curious and mischievous; they will start licking any exposed skin and tugging at your clothes. You discover quite how much saliva cattle produce (you'll need to wash) and how tough their tongues are.

just to stop people worrying about this, we have a right of way through the dairy farm and our cows have never attacked a dog and walker. Please dont assume because you have a dog they are going to go crazy and try and kill you. They might show interest at which point just let the dog go, it will outrun the cows.

My grandfather, who passed away (due to lungcancer) about a year before I was born, loved nature with all of his heart. He was facinated by it, wrote and illustrated books on trees and plant life. He always loved to go for walks, hike and experience nature in all of her glory. He even went on to become a political figure in regards to nature conservation, water irrigation and domestic fishing. Now fast forward 28 years and I have started to hike and revel in the outdoors myself, went on a great hiking trip last year through Norway and can definitely feel that the nature loving genes are passed on to me. Videos like these reignite my passion to get out there again, make my grandfather proud and come alive again. I'm currently recovering from shoulder surgery but your videos give me hope that I too can get back into the outdoors again soon. Thanks Claire for your beautiful message to the world, your optimism and your deep love for nature. You are a great source of inspiration and we are blessed to have a soul like you. Hi Claire! Fantastic jaunt into the wild. If no-one's mentioned it, those jelly like blobs are probably frog egg sacks. They aren't always found in water, and those may have been laid when the water level was higher, or there was a puddle right where they were.

@@WildBeare Hi Claire, I just wanted to tell you what this jelly is, because Don unfortunately isn't completely right. This jelly is called Star jelly. These are the remains of female frogs that have been eaten by predators (like a stork). The predator can't digest the reproductive organs with eggs and regurgitates this. Also, because it's already november, frogs wouldn't be laying eggs right now. As far as I can tell, that's what you saw in the mountains. I've seen the stuff in the forests here too. It's not really nice, but I hope you'd want to know the truth. As a nature person, you probably know nature can sometimes be cruel.

As a diary farmer’a daughter thank you for being wary of the cows. You’re absolutely right that most of the time they are just curious, and they are really lovely animals to spend time with - but in a controlled environment! The most dangerous cows are those with calves at foot, as they may see you as a threat to their babies. If you have a dog with you, you should try and find another route through and if you can’t, let your dog off the lead. Your dog can run faster than you and they are more agile and the cows will find the dog more of a threat than a human as they do interact with humans regularly. Again, thanks for being wary and looking after yourself.

I spent my Welsh childhood following the streams and brooks, past cows and boulders, through ferns and bogs into the mountains. And now from Los Angeles I have reached the age where I cry when I see Wales. Thank you Claire for your wonderful work, and sentiments that remind me to fit the pieces together from the lost jigsaw of life.

It's not about the miles Claire, it's about the adventure and you had one heck of an adventure. You always seem to pick those iffy weekends but if every weekend was sun and roses you wouldn't have got to feel alive like this. I'm intrigued to know what the jelly things were, maybe some mountain frogspawn? The night sky never ceases to amaze me, neither does your tenacity and grit. I'd like to reiterate what someone else said, Claire is certainly no fair weather camper/hiker. I'm glad your ankle has mended Claire and what a come back too. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Oh yeah, as for the length, I prefer the long format but that's just me. Stay safe and stay well and thank you for inspiring us.

Hi Chris! Ahh thanks, well I only get to go out and play on alternate weekends when my son is at his dads, so I just roll with whatever weather is handed to me.. usually pretty ropey haha. Glad you liked the longer format :D it wasn't intentional, they turn out whatever length they naturally turn out to be, probably I chatted more nonsense than usual in this one 😄 ohh yes maybe.. froggy was about so it would make sense. I thought it might be some kind of slime mold or alien juice but yours seems more likely. Thanks again and merry Christmas 🎅 ❤

Hey Claire, I just want to write to say how fortunate you are to be where you are, let me explain. I live in Queensland Australia and it is not a place that is great for camping ( which I love ), in the winter we don't get any snow ( I would love it if it did ) and in the summer time the temps often reach 40°C plus which turns your camping gear into a sweaty plastic bag. If that wasn't enough we have 3 of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world just cruising around, our lakes and rivers are so polluted from agriculture insecticides run off, that you have to carry all of your water with you, makes for a VERY heavy pack. I am Soo envious of where you live but I do get to enjoy your videos and dream about what it would be like.

Heyy 👋 you're right we are so lucky here with all the water and the temperate climate. We do like to complain about the weather here in Britain but we're very fortunate I think. I love our seasons. And I can't imagine camping with bugs and critters that are so dangerous.. the only thing I worry about harming me is ticks really Your country does look so beautiful though Thank you for sharing this trip with me and Merry Christmas 🎅❤️

When he was only 6 we hiked up to Cwm Idwal together in the snow 💚 memories that I will never forget and treasure forever. (I don't film when I'm with him though) He's growing up fast and is nearly as tall as me now! His passion is football at the moment, so we can't go far or we miss his games haha Thank you so much for sharing this with me, hope you're having a lovely week and merry Christmas ❤️ 🎅

What an amazing video, wow! Right up until a sentimental ending with such a lovely message. And what a sense of humour! A nice, calm piece of music while we watch you taking your tent down in weather that looks like 100 Mary Poppins are on their way in. Nature has such an incredibly soothing effect and it's quite amazing that the colour green is a colour known to calm us mere mortals. It's like it was created just for us. I remember being in a caravan up in the yorkshire dales and one night looking up at the sky and seeing just sooo many stars! And parts of the core were showing with hues of pink, purple, blue and orange. Just stunning and it's something I've not repeated, yet! The stunning views you had through the mist of stars poking through, just wonderful. I've only watched three of your videos so far but I'll be hitting the subscribe button and lining a good many more up to watch. Thank you for all the very evident hard work you put into these.

I liked seeing that Hilleberg in action. I have an Akto and a Nallo. I've pitched the Akto in high wind and rain and it always held up. A bit prone to condensation in summer, but it is a great backpacking tent, especially in winter. I have a lot of happy memories camping with partners in the Nallo as well. I liked it that you decided to move in the dark because you didn't feel safe where you had initially decided to pitch. It's easy to make a blunder like that when you're tired and you've been walking and slogging through bracken, scree and bogs all day long and you really just want to set up and rest. Better safe than sorry though, and it's like you said, it had its positives- you getting a view of the stars, and ultimately letting you sleep soundly.
