First, what a beautiful little baby she was! And WOW, for being only two days old, your little filly was quite atypical, she was more interested in exploring her surroundings, giving her new legs a thorough trying out, and not worrying, every moment, where her mother was! Most babies 48 hours new, they are their mother's constant shadow, they're timid, and they're unsure in new situations, and at only two days old, every thing, in every direction, is new! Your filly, she was all the opposite of usual, she was curious, playful, and unafraid--she seemed more like a two week old filly, and not a 48 hour old newborn! I can't help myself, because now I'm "VERY" curious, and I'd like to know what kind of personality does that little Gypsy filly have today? Is she still as inquisitive, as brave, is she mischievous, and does she have a lot of smarts? Thank you for your videos.

@rajvader5 жыл бұрын
For safety and training sake, when taking the foal out to paddock, I put a halter and 10' lead rope on the foal, with the loose end tied back to the mare's halter. I focus on leading the foal out, allowing Momma to just follow along. My foals tend to be too mischievous to be allowed to cross the barnyard loose. You just know they're gonna run off and find something to get into a wreck with.

Brilliant!!!!! Something that could help in the future - put a lead rein around the hind quarters to help them out the stalls. Foals are always reticent to leave their birthing home. So just loosely wrap it over the hind legs and guide them out. Really works a treat. BEAUTIFUL FOAL!!!!

I know by the date that she is now a yearling but that filly at this age did not need that halter and it was getting in the way of her following her mama because her mind was on that contraption that some human put on her head. Glad when the guy in the video had the common sense to take it off. She was only 2 days old and she was going to a human to ask for help. Smart.

+Catie Heftel Prada is my 5th foal, we are not big breeders, but breed carefully and spend a lot of time with our foals. Most breeders who are hands on will halter a foal from the very first day, as it is easiest to teach them to tolerate the halter then, than it is to train them later on. Much safer for everyone involved.
@KimmiePatts
7 жыл бұрын
Bull crap. That baby didn't need to get used to a halter at that age! Are you nuts? Let the baby be a baby without all the unnatural human stuff. Be a responsible breeder.
@0007molly

Susan Gardiner we used to introduce our babies to halters a day after being born the only reason this was because we were walking them out to the pasture for the day using only the lead line for pressure on the rear end to push the animal forward never actually pulling on the halter itself just on the Rope that goes around their bottom this encourages them to stay with their mother and to be able to be taken from point A to point B safely

@@KimmiePatts What if an emergency occurs and you need to be able to handle the foal? To me it seems like good sense to have them accustomed to at least basic handling. Having a halter on for a couple minutes now and then while you're there isn't going to somehow ruin their childhood. They aren't hurting the horse so you need to mind your own business.

The horses are beautiful. The humans understanding of horse behavior is unimpressive, if not pitiful. They must be new at this, but they need to get serious about their role in animal husbandry. There are plenty of books to read, and lots of information on the internet to educate themselves. The lady took the Mama horse out on a lead, abandoning the foal. Then the man was pushing and laughing at the foal, when the foal may not have been able to see that well having just been born, or see Mom. The foal saw the hose on the ground and had to make sure it wasn't a snake, it was in totally new surroundings outside it's paddock, and it couldn't see Mama. And Mama was on a lead being held by the woman, so she couldn't get to her foal. And the uneducated humans thought it was all real funny. Ugh! Get serious about your responsibilities to the animals and planet.

2 day old would have a rope lead around its butt and attach to his halter and encourage him to move out. It’s very effective, not harsh and babies first training with it should have been that day inside the stall. The start is leading and through light touch to accept the rope by desensitization and once that’s mastered and he/ she accepts the rope lead then and only then to you bring them out of his stall. I raise gypsy vanners and our first training is impression on the foal for trust, working for a bond and work with even pressure push gently with finger tips, then with hand if the cue was not understood or accepted, then more pressure to move, if that won’t work then full hand with a Gentle push but each change must put a bit more pressure. Once the moving and acceptance is achieved then and only then again Should you safely leave the stall. I hate to see absolutely no reinforcements given to a foal, no cues, nothing asked of it that it does not understand. Come on people,, your parents didn’t just put you down on the sidewalk and let you have at it after your first walk outside to run into the street.. this is a baby and needs gentle training and guidance. The gypsy vanner is the most gentle horse in the entire horse world that can be trusted around The gypsy children and family due to its sweet and gentle disposition. But it comes with training and not to just expect it magically right out of the womb.

It's better to do it when they cant hurt you then to do it when they can hurt you. Which one would you rather have. A foal kick or a yearling kick?
For safety and training sake, when taking the foal out to paddock, I put a halter and 10' lead rope on the foal, with the loose end tied back to the mare's halter. I focus on leading the foal out, allowing Momma to just follow along. My foals tend to be too mischievous to be allowed to cross the barnyard loose. You just know they're gonna run off and find something to get into a wreck with.
Awe adorable Not a judgement ,just an observation I wish momma could brush the flys away with her tail but it’s all tied up Thank you Patricia

Luv those horses!!! That little filly is the sweetest!
She so freaking cute, all legs!
Congratulations!
Aw, who's that next to them? A Shetland or a mini-horse? And I love how transfixed she is with the flower pots. I bet it's because she can see them, horses can see blue.
She’s very inquisitive and independent.

Bull crap. That baby didn't need to get used to a halter at that age! Are you nuts? Let the baby be a baby without all the unnatural human stuff. Be a responsible breeder.

Wow that's a fast halter on baby - 2 days
Were you able to build an fence and make like a small arena where babies and mammas can run together ?
Very smarty!!!
Well, I've never seen a sutch independant foal.

Foal - I am only 3 days old - My Momma is suppose wait for me - show me the way - I want my momma
Nice film but it filmed too close so that it is tires the eyes and the brain just like if one has drunk too much. Thank you.
Halter is too big could result in the foal getting a foot stuck in it as they are very flexible when so young.

@@ShelliScott thats good. if u left it on when its in the pasture the foal could be far away from you when it catches a foot in the lower gap .
If you insist on putting a head collar on a foal make sure it fits correctly as it’s likely to catch itself on a hook or something, even it’s front leg.
