In my limited fwd experience, it seems like you can make them very engaging to drive, but it requires a slightly unhinged setup. Stuff like rear toe-out to give you a rear-steer effect under power can help. Reverse tire stagger and giant rear sway bars of course help too

on OEM Tires, alignment and pads that's some good stuff - with all those things addressed you can get low 50s I'm sure. I had a modified ITR DC2 back in the day and was doing mid 1:50s, so for this thing to be bone stock and doing same times is super impressive.

A rear sway bar upgrade makes turn in a dream. Really helps with understeer. Pads, tires, a rear sway bar and alignment makes the car drive so much better on the track.

This is a compelling demonstration that this car is a great and engaging DD that is somewhat wanting for track duty. Watching you tugging at the wheel shows that the FWD nature is coming through pretty strongly.

As someone who has never done a track day I love watching this. I'm hopefully going to be purchasing a ITS in the next couple months and it's nice to see that even stock it can perform. Question - Are the tires basically shot after a track day? Meaning that you have to spend ~$800-1000 for a new set of tires after a day on the track?? Plus the oil change. Seems like a track day is an expensive outing if that's the case!

For what the car is set up for it looks as if it can hang with others no problem on a track and is a fun ride. FWD driver here. I know Fenton knows this, but FYI for anyone else who wants to reduce understeer in a FWD car. Wider wheels and tires. 200 TW tires would be great if the extra G's don't induce oil starvation (I got a baffled oil pan for insurance). Is it MacPherson suspension? Even though it would be more difficult to get negative camber, try to get a little toe out and as much negative camber as you can (-3 is a good number) for the alignment. Someone said it first here, but if you can, install a bigger rear sway bar, preferably an adjustable one and maybe, just maybe, you could induce a little more oversteer.

  • @Sendies

Edit: Oh and as a DD, it was probably the best 'do-it-all' car I've owned and I've owned numerous 'hot hatches' or equivalents as I've always had a need to compromise.. Did plenty of diaper changes in the back hatch lmao. I ended up getting something with more driving feel, even though it's deemed an 'inferior' car to the CTR (18 STI Type RA).. Hydraulic steering (great info when loaded up) and the shifter goes straight into the gearbox, no linkage like on a fwd platform. Oh, and it sounded INFININTLY better than the CTR with a simple CBE, lol.. Ended up getting a 987.1 Cayman S since I no longer needed 4 doors/seats anymore and couldn't be happier! No, no IMS or bore score issues @ 90k (it's been a PCA owned car it's whole life, I have records going back to 2011, and it was driven regularly, which is key to keeping the IMS lubed).

It looks like a much more responsive, damped and braked family sedan running a track. (Vs something like an 86, MX5 and in this price bracket a Supra)

At the end of the day this is not a sports car. The chassis is for a luxury sedan with sporty parts. It's never gonna compare to 86/Miata. And of course it's FWD. Not really surprised with his experience(I owned a FK8 Type R and grew bored of it). Probably fun a few times but after a while you realize you're lugging around a ton of extra weight and it just cant handle corners as good as a sports car.
