On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs in Phoenix AZ on 4-1-22.
We're looking at a 1935 Jaguar SS 90 Prototype in British Racing Green Paint. The car is the REAL DEAL. This car is not a replica.
This car is “The Father of Jaguar Sports Cars” and has lots of race history.
We’re riding with the Care Taker of the car Terry Larson. Terry is a Historian, a Restorer of D-Type’s, and the Author of the Book C-Type, D-Type, and Lightweight E-Type Registry.
Being able to video and share a car like this is a real treat.
ENJOY!

Seeing its the original prototype to the original car they came out with it should number one most important car in jaguars history

@@darrenbrisson4336 I would tend to agree with you and find it quite unbelievable this gentleman is actually driving it and it isn't sitting permanently in a museum. I would think an E type prototype or number one production car would be up their in importance too, the E type being their most iconic car.
That this was not lost to history is so cool...better yet, that it has been painstakingly restored to such a high degree of quality is such a testament to the respect Terry has for the automobile. Thanks for sharing!

¡Saludos cordiales!

I have seen several SS 100 Jag’s over the years, even a few Suffolk replica’s. This SS 90 I didn’t know existed. A truly unique piece of motoring history. Manufactured by Standard Motor Company for SS cars Coventry. The SS being Swallow Sidecars the company name before becoming Jaguar. After WW 2 you certainly couldn’t have the name SS on the radiator, due to its reference to officers in the German Army. The car is in true British Racing Green. You have done really well with this one Lou, many thanks for sharing.

CORRECTION The SS90 prototype is not Jaguars First sports-car EVER. The very first 2 seater Sportscar EVER was built in March 1934 close to 1000 chassis numbers before the SS90. It is William Walmsleys personal one off special . William Walmsley was the managing director of SS cars. This car survives in fantastic condition in the USA, with indisputable history with its original body and paperwork.

£395 in 1935 is equivalent in purchasing power to about £29,932.42 today, an increase of £29,537.42 over 87 years. The pound had an average inflation rate of 5.10% per year between 1935 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 7,477.83%. This means that today's prices are 75.78 times higher than average prices since 1935, according to the Office for National Statistics composite price index. A pound today only buys 1.320% of what it could buy back then. The inflation rate in 1935 was 0.63%. The current inflation rate compared to last year is now 2.27%. If this number holds, £395 today will be equivalent in buying power to £403.95 next year.
