1997: The Royal Family Greet Mourners Ahead of Diana's Funeral

On 5 September 1997, the Queen led the Royal Family in returning from Balmoral to London ahead of the funeral of Princess Diana. Prince Charles and his sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, greeted mourners outside Kensington Palace, while the Queen and Prince Philip spoke to those who had gathered outside Buckingham Palace to pay their respects to the Princess of Wales.

I think The Queen did the right thing by keeping her grandkids at Balmoral so they could grieve their mother's death and I don't know why people criticize her for that Her Job is not easy she was just trying to comfort her Grandson's just like any grandparent would do I bet this won't get many likes Rest In Peace ❤Princess Diana❤ 🕊️EIIR🕊️

Diana was respectful but actualy not that somber, and suprisingly relaxed. It was summer very open and you could walk to all the palaces and see the flowers. She passed very suddenly in the prime of life, so it was emotional. But it was more about her charities, friends in fashion, the Arts & celebrity world, Tom Cruise was there and Versace sister etc. I dont care what they say, Charles was very bereaved. This was the mother of his children. All the roads were closed for the Queen due to all the security and visiting heads of state around the world. And the military rehearsals. Her funeral was the same as her fathers & grandfathers before her. People were stopping in their cars along the route. It was more a gratitude and thankfulness for life. We still miss her.

@@lolalouise9503Lady Di (or Princess Diana as she was better known) was def MORE loved by peoples around the globe; i couldn’t emohasize this even more: myself, my family, neighbours, friends, relatives, and acquaintances from HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD knew about Diana (or at least about what’s put out in the media re: her at the time) although there was no socmed yet at the time, but if you’d ask these same people outside Britain & the Commonwealth who was “The Queen”, they wouldn’t know. Me even as a gradeschooler who didn’t know much about the world learned who the Princess of Wales was, as well as her husband and kids, bec they were all over the news worldwide-not the Queen, sorry to say. And that’s the no-brainer logic on the why & how come more people loved her, was simply bec they knew MORE of her than all the other royals, her children included. I mean, i had a crush on William as a teen, yes (lol), and have grown to also love QE II as i watched more of her lately, but then again, my parents, teachers, classmates, friends, relatives, neighbours and many other people in my country and across the planet knew and loved Diana BECAUSE she was more popular than any of them. And THEY knew it. Let’s accept that fact and quit denying it bec otherwise you only have yourselves to keep fooling. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nope, it was disgraceful. What kind of idiot forced two boys still in shock to go out and put on smiles and words of gratitude to STRANGERS?!! As bad or worse than making them walk behind their moms coffin in front of the world. I lost my mom suddenly at age 15 and the last thing I wanted was for ANYONE to come to my house or for me to have to interact with anyone except my immediate family . The RF didn’t owe the public squat when it came to the two sons. The whole incident was about the boys and Diana’s family - not a bunch of whining strangers. I doubt very much that Diana would have wanted her sons to go thru that kind of torture.

@Aaron O'Neill Harry is just like his mother a rebel who unlike the rest of the Royal family won't fall into line and paint a facade for the British public to fawn over and the desperation to keep the highly manipulative British press on side. Diana spoke out many, many times about the Royal family and how cold and unemotional they are. She spoke about how utterly miserable and depressed and alone she felt. She was so desperately unhappy and unsupported that she threw herself down the stairs while she was pregnant. Diana also wrote a tell-all book regarding her life within the Royal family. Diana spoke about her astonishment at the Royal family's absolute inability to recognize her pain but rather they constantly invalidated herself and her feelings. The reputation and the survival of the "Firm" as she called them was all that mattered and it is at all costs. The only difference is Diana was praised for it and Harry is demonised for it. As far as disgrace within the Royal family goes it is a thousand-year-old institution littered with scandal and cover-ups.
