    Thanks as usual to Robelinda.....great series... and good/bad feelings to see Hansie Cronje (mixed emotions).... he caught, tamed and made a good side of bright youngsters, talented pool etc., but in the end he went for garbage, the money, rather satisfaction and gone with the wind....RIP Cronje....I know it has been a couple of decades, but still cannot forget him... still tears....

    I loved watching Pat Symcox playing for South Africa. Giving the batsman a send off after he’d got his wicket was brilliant!! We don’t see characters like that in cricket nowadays and that’s a shame.

    Fantastic series this one. That game at Port Elizabeth was one of the best test matches I've ever seen and really every Aus v RSA series since readmission has been of a very high quality.

    A classic Rob upload of a classic series from a classic era. I remember following this series in school, Waugh/Blewett partnership, Paul Adams reverse sweep and Mark Waugh's 116 all being thrilling, all the while with Mark Taylor in the middle of a horror form slump and relentless calls to either be dropped or stand aside himself. That carried on even louder into Ashes '97 that followed, capped off when some UK tabloid journo presented him with a metre wide bat at a press conference. But it obviously spurred Tubby on as he went on to shut them all right up in the first Test, making one of the great knocks under pressure, especially by a skipper. I'll be the millionth to say this just today no doubt, but who cares - thanks for everything you do, Rob. You are a true legend of cricket, and friend to all the cricket family worldwide. Special mention also to Jack Bannister, presenting this series summary with his usual style. A '90s BBC TV coverage stalwart, and like Tony Lewis a class commentator and general class act.

    I remember listening to this series on the radio on my farm as a kid. I remember getting depressed after the end of day 2 knowing that Australia couldn't chase. I think it was like 1am when Healy hit the six to win it. A tv would have been nice.

    South Africa beating Australia in 1992 MWC was the best memory I have. Australia was the defending champion from 1987 MWC in India and Pakistan. They had some of the best captains Kepler Wessels Hansie Cronje and the bowling was simply lethal.

    One of the best series that I've watched, still remember the last test when umpire made horrendous decisions. Not sure why Taylor went with Bevan in 2nd test when a third seamer would have made hell of a difference.

  • @ahogg5960

    @ahogg5960

    +Omar Ayaz Bevan was playing at 7 to add batting strength because they couldn't (or wouldn't) drop captain Mark Taylor for his very poor run with the bat at the time. 3rd seamer would have been useful but weakened the batting too much.

  • @Ron-pm3qk

    @Ron-pm3qk

    +A Hogg - yes I can recall Taylor's slump with the bat but had it not been for Warne who bowled against the wind from one end and kept it tight in first innings, 3rd seamer would have cost Ausies in that important 2nd test.

    SA's batting was weakened by 1996 end, they mostly relied on Boucher, Pollock, Klusener and Rhodes though their openers did not do their job properly. Despite low scoring they managed to fight, hats off to their amazing bowling attack. I guess Australia on a whole was a better team in 90's which consisted on solid batsman, disciplined bowling and attacking fielding approach.
