1996 Audi A6 Quattro 2.5l AEL TDI -33C cold start

Just installed my oil pan heater pad. I'd say it works! I've tried other cold starts in -30, no chance.

    Газ держит, если бы не держал всё было бы ровно. Я тоже раз так решил подержать слегка, так и работал неустойчиво, пока не отпустил. Пускал при минус 26.

    Just a small update - I replaced the battery and it seems to be starting pretty good so far - have only started it in -25 so far this year, and I used the pan heater. There's a big difference between -25 and -33.

    there are (at least) 3 glowplugs not working. The black box lets the glow plugs work longer than the bulp is showing. If you wait like 5 sec after the light has switched of and start you will have way more power for the starter!

    The battery looks very weak. When I look at the battery icon while glowing it is dimming when the upper two lights (high temp and brake) come on. Also during starting I could hear that the battery is almost dead because the starter-engine isn't turning consistantly. A new battery may help :)

    Mario Navarro Kamonte It has to do with a lot's of factors. 1.) Is a good and strong battery that delivers enough power for that extreme temperatures, 2.) Your fuel, some are better for cold starts and some not, 3.) Your oil, the colder it gets the thicker it is. For extreme winter use you should have some 0Wx oil: e.g.: 0W40, 0W30, 0W60 or so. The index 0W means it's for cold starts - the higher the number before the "W", the thicker it get's in cold temperatures. 4.) turn off all things that consume battery while starting.

    Ich bins Wow.. that is a lot of usefull information. Thank you very much! I've managed to find the problem, it had a power leak from the motor of the electronic lock. It was fixed by a trusted service, but still have a problem with loosing power, and it's not the dynamo either (when I drive it, it charges the battery, which is brand new Varta). I have to start it every 4 -5 days or it will not start at all, because of no power, and I always turn everything off. I went to the service where I bought the battery and they said it has no problem, nor defect nor charging problems.

    Mario Navarro Kamonte You are welcome, buddy! Did you check how much power your battery has? Maybe it offers too less power, I'd check what maximum capacity that is allowed and I would install the strongest possible battery. If the temperatures go below -5 degree celsius the outages power drops below 50% of it's original power. Lot of fail starts happen because carshops install a to powerless battery, because it's "cheaper". Might help.

    Thats a really painful sounding engine, really wouldn't advice it, give it more time to warm up through the pan heater or better install a proper coolant circuit block heater. The engine on this car has a coolant heater circuit, you just need to put 12v on it with ignition off and it'll start warming the coolant for you!

    you need to rev a diesel when you start it from cold

  • @Megadriver

    @Megadriver

    9 жыл бұрын

    You should never rev a cold engine. When the idle is rough, you can apply a tiny bit of gas for a second or two to up the rpm a bit and try to normalize the idle, but that's it.

  • @DKVXDK

    @DKVXDK

    If you want to deliberately destroy the engine, sure you need to rev it. Otherwise as stated above, let it sit idling for a while.
