    Jack Jones' "Love Boat" is terrific! I have always felt that 1987 was the BEST Telethon out of all of them! It had the biggest "Stars" and Orchestra.

    the telethon never dies..you can continue to donate now to MDA not just in Jerry's name but for all those who suffer from all forms of MD..how ironic my mom and I watched this religiously when was younger..now she has myasthenia gravis and if not for those who started the MDA she might not have lived this far..since still no cure she still fights it!

    ...these are highlights of the best telethon that Jerry and the MDA ever put on: all of the quality entertainment; going over the previous year with 90 minutes to go, with Jerry nearly losing it on air; Sammy nearly losing it on air after his ultimate performances of "What Kind of Fool am I?" and "Birth of the Blues"; Bob Sampson's magnificent speech, and the final tote that was 5 million dollars better than the previous year (and they probably could have hit 6.)

    @@albertpeterson5585 Yes, absolutely Albert. Jack was touring UK in the late 1970s and I saw him then (and many other times too). At one point in the 1979 concert, his father came on stage and they did a medley, including 'Impossible Dream' and 'The Donkey Serenade' which was great to watch. Jack's mother was the actress Irene Hervey, who I remember in her later career making an appearance in the classic Clint Eastwood film ' Play Misty for Me'.

    Kristann Harrigan The only others who probley really knew why he choose this as his charity also took it to his grave too. Dean Martin was their way back in the Martin and Lewis days. Something happen in Jerry life, he ask for Dean help. He was there from the beginning of the M.D.A. I just imagine that Jerry explain his need to do this to Dean way back when. Those are probley the only 2 that was their at the very beginning.

    Not a boomer. But watching the telethon, as a kid in the 80's and 90's, was so entertaining. We don't have performers like these anymore. Every year you could count on Jerry being there, and you knew he was going to bring the best entertainment possible, his whole heart was in doing this and helping those kids.

    That kid from the College was having a hard time talking cause he knew how Jerry is and he kept laughing. And Jerry wasn't doing nothing. But if you go to the one for that came college. Jerry messed with the one kid the came every time. The kid kept laughing and could not talk. But that is Jerry being Jerry. I love the way he did. I miss seeing him every year. I can't beleave he is gone. Rip Jerry you are so much missed thank God for the videos I can go back on.

    You already share so much so I feel bad asking, but is there any chance you have Sammy Davis Jr.’s “And I Am Telling You” and “What Kind of Fool Am I?” performance from the 1987 telethon? I’ve wanted to find a good quality version for ages but can never track one down. I love Sammy’s telethon performances, he was always at his best here. I wish there were a complete collection of his telethon performances somewhere. Thank you for all that you’ve shared.

    Why do they put phone numbers up with towns?

  • @nightowl5475

    @nightowl5475

    4 жыл бұрын

    Margaret Briefs Because the actual telethon being broadcast from Las Vegas is going out to all its local affiliates thru their “Love Network” and they put up the local numbers and repeat them locally so the people watching say in Philly, get all the surrounding areas to call to make a pledge. That’s the way they use to do it, I know, I’ve watched so many of them throughout the years. It would of probably been better to come up with just one easy 1-800 number but hey, what the hell, it brings back good memories! 😁
