First win for Davey Allison in a race that went the advertised distance. His first career win about a month before Dover at Talladega was shortened to 178 laps due to darkness caused by his Dad's catch fence accident. Race wound up going 10 laps short, but either way Allison had the car to beat at Talladega.

Yep, that sounds like him. Apparently Bob Jenkins had something else going on this day.

I've watched NASCAR since the late '80s but looking back now, Dover should've never been 500 miles..400 would have sufficed then as well.

They didn't change the distance from 500 to 400 mile races until Fall 1997. Ricky Rudd won the final 500-mile race at the Monster Mile in June 1997, while Mark Martin (who was defeated by Rudd earlier) would win the first 400-mile event and first of three consecutive Fall race wins for Mark. Pocono ran 500-mile events all the way through 2011, and in 2012 they were changed to 400-mile races. Auto Club Speedway's final 500-mile event was February 2010, and every race since October 2010 has been 400. When Darlington lost one of their dates, they automatically made their lone date 500 miles. Even Rockingham had 500 mile events before being reduced to 400, they went from 492 to 393.

Yeah, Punch is on color for this race. The snooze fest with him is the late Larry Nuber. Seemed like a very intelligent, decent man but man was he boring on play by play.
