Thank you for this video! I just used it to replace the bystarter on my 87 CH150 and although the anatomy was a little different, your video got me, er, well started on the process. My old gal had been struggling to get started--was taking a few minutes with a lot of throttle teasing--and now she fires right up. Note to those who are still diagnosing, my old bystarter tested find for ohms of resistance, so just because it's testing okay doesn't mean it's working okay. Another note: I didn't actually have to remove the carb, just had to free it up from the intake and exhaust to give it wiggle room to access the screw mounts from above (removed the battery for access). Thanks again!

Any idea what the screw size is on the bystander bracket holding it to the carb?

Did the fast idle work when you started the engine cold? My choke fast idle doesn't work on my 1986 Elite 150. When I got the bike I noticed that the choke had no rubber O-ring on it to prevent air from being sucked in around the choke housing, so that might be my issue. I tested the choke off the bike with 12 volts and the plunger does extend a good 5/8" so I know it is working. Just need to take it off again and maybe plug the large choke housing hole while leaving the small fuel channel deep inside unaffected to see if the idle goes up.

Ya know it did didn't really seem to help cold. As you know that's the whole purpose of the autobistarter. Still looking for a cure.

Had the same issue on a Helix. Pulled the seat off to find the 2 screws missing and the bystarter came out of the carb. I found the plate and bought screws, but wondered if there was a gasket between the bystarter and the machined hole in the carb?

No gasket, just a thin o-ring on the bystarter itself.

I wonder why my Helix has 3 wires coming off the autobystarter?

I have the exact same issue on my 86 150 elite. I cleaned the carb and once its warmed up it runs fine but I put a new bystarter on mine and it still doesn't choke the motor on a cold start. Did you ever find the solution?

Hello Lee.... The bystarter didn't fix mine. I do have a few more parts to try. I will have another video coming soon.

@@rubytheelite I'd like to see if you come up with anything on this. It seems to me that if the bystarter didnt work then wouldnt the choke stay on and not shut off ? I have been chasing my tail on this one for a long time.

Where and how do you hook up your tach? I think my scooter is idling too high and I'm wasting a lot of gas.

If you don't have a tach, go take your scooter for about a fifteen-minute ride and adjust your idle according to how much your rear wheel is spinning. Turn your idle down just enough until the rear wheel stops, then turn it up a quarter turn, that should be close enough.
