So was #2 FSU who gave Pitt they're 1 loss. They always used to screw up and offer bowl bids to teams who hadn't finished they're season yet. Only for that team to end up losing they're season finale after accepting the bid. As was the case this season with Notre dame.

ND was 9-0-1 and #2 when invited. They didn’t lose until December 6 at Southern Cal. ND statistically dominated this game but lost due to 2 big mistakes.

Notre Dames defense played lights out. Only 79 total yards through 3 quarters! Those turnovers killed them.

Herschel Walker ran for 150 yards. The rest of the Georgia offense, combined, had negative yardage.

Damn, the size of offensive lines of both teams back then smaller, 230, 215, 250. Compared now to 290, 330, pounders today. Yup, a different time.

first off dooley should have gotten two NChampionships with this squad if herschel stays for the last year it should have been 3 titles and 4 sec champs in a row.... 80-83 is one of the best classess ever.... 4 losses and 1 tie the rest wins.

Aaah, it's always fun to watch the domers lose in the postseason... never gets old!

Same, funny the monsters they'd become within 20 years.

ND basically plays Georgia to a draw but loses because of that horrible kickoff debacle in the first half. This was a very, very lucky Georgia team. And they were lucky to not play Pitt.

ND entire o line went to NFL.

Linemen were almost lanky then. ND's O line weighed between 250 and 258.

All in all a pretty boring game...I remember the Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida game much better. BTW with today's playoffs the 1980 team would not have stood a chance IMO. I was just look at the SRS ratings for 1980. Georgia finished 9th
