I'm the biggest Walker fan.you will never see another Georgia football championship .if you lived 200 more years it will never happen. The best running back in college. A quarter back that completed ONE pass.and a player on Notre dame that did go out of bounds and getting to play the 7th best team in the country.never again

I was there and on the field after the game. Standing next to Herschel the crowd surge was heavy. Dooley grabbed Herschel's face mask and asked him if he wanted to go back in. It was such an intense game, a great victory and probably shouldnt have won. Belue completed one pass the entire game but was at a critical point that kept the clock running, the kick-off the two return guys failed to field and one of the Kelly boys recovered at the one. It was just meant to be Georgia time.

I was a Sophomore at UGA during this magical season. Walker, and the fact that UGA didn't make a lot of mistakes that season, won it. They weren't great, had a lot close calls, weren't dominant. Florida should have beaten them, but they had one of those seasons. The 2012 team that narrowly lost to Alabama in the SEC championship game, was a better team.

Notre Dame should not have even been playing in this game. The bowl organizers screwed up and invited the 9-0-1 #2 ranked Irish to play top ranked Georgia in a game they thought would be for the National Championship. Notre Dame accepted......problem was they had a game remaining at USC in L.A. Notre Dame lost 20-3!! So the Irish drop down in the polls and 10-1 3rd ranked Pittsburgh gets stuck playing a virtually meaningless game against 8-4 South Carolina in the Gator Bowl!

Not sure u would call them midgets some of those lineman were 6'7 a few were 6'5 they were definitely thinner and could run a lot longer. High fructose corn syrup more availability of all kinds of foods definitely changed a lot. Weight training and sports medicine also was no where near what it is today. Just a different time all together.

@YourLocalBluntFriend Incorrect. They actually have been recognized as National Champions 6 times(1920, 1927, 1942, 1946, 1968, and 1980). However they only claim 2 of those(1942, 1980). College football national championships is one of the most debatable subjects in the history college sports due to the fact that so many polls named different teams national champions. If you listen in near the end of this video they basically talk about how it is hard to pick one team. Georgia also have the 2nd most SEC Championships tied with Tennessee at 13. Not too shabby. Dont hate.

Nathan McDonald Exactly. During the beginning of this game they refer to Notre Dame's offensive lineman being larger than average. Notre Dame's five starters weight was between 240 to 260. Now days that is small compared to Georgia's offensive line. Georgia's smallest starter weighs in at 318. During 1981 they made a big deal about William "Refrigerator" Perry because He was over 300 pounds. Now days 290 to 300 is average, And is what they want and look for in a lineman.

Pre PED's. All these linemen were healthy and also lived past 50 unlike the obese lineman of today who all die prematurely. People in general were slimmer and heathier before the obesity crisis. Look at pictures from anytime back then and you only see 1-2 overweight people. And even they were smaller than half the average females of today.

Well I think the FREE-MASONS are still around now, as far as influencing SEC teams in concerned...but please don't ask what I mean by that since it will sound a bit too weird! Either way, these "secret" organizations/boosters attention seems primarily focused now on BAMA. But for a very brief time in the early 80's, UGA was able to get some of those top "recruits", but still only resulted in ONE national championship. Nowadays, it seems Bama couldn't screw up if they tried, and Saban is such a hard ass coach that he at least keeps those young kids focused, who are basically gauranteed to win with all that talent.
