How in the world did you get that last bolt out of the intake manifold? When I back mine out it hits the IP and it doesn't appear to be slotted? Once removed are there only only 2 rear bolts holding the IP? Great Video.. Thanx!

The intake manifold should be slotted for the bolt that is behind the injection pump, and does not have to come out of the head. Yes there are two bolts on the injection pump at the back and then the front is held from the gear train. You have to pull the tach drive off the front of the engine and use a puller to loosen the drive for the injection pump. It will not come out without loosening it with a puller.

Cool video, what sort of HP is that engine putting out? Also the lacking of a turbo are doesn't that make those engines sort of lazy?. Thanks for sharing your video.✌️

Eric- these were 210 hp from the factory, they are not the quickest thing on the block, but they get the job done.. you just have to have patience when climbing hills. One Wanderlodge owner traveled the country in a bus similar to this towing an enclosed trailer, he said he would just slow down and smell the roses... I am sure he was only doing 15 or 20 mph climbing some grades. He eventually changed the engine out to a turbo model.. which I believe are 250hp.

Can you explain how the puller (5p2371) works? I need to remove my injection pump but I don't have the puller. I'm hoping I can fabricate a puller without too much trouble.

The injection pump has a come end on it that fits into a gear. You are pulling the gear off the cone. Here is the cat puller: www.ebay.com/itm/Caterpillar-Timing-pin-3P1544-and-Pump-gear-puller-6V4069-set-for-Cat-Injection/284170751911?hash=item4229e58fa7:g:PI4AAOSwb41gGgN4 The two small bolts go into the gear and the center part turns and pushes the gear off the injection pump cone.

@@bhartley1024 Yes they do.. there are less expensive pullers that just use the bolts on a plate and you just tighten the bolts to pull the gear loose.

@@GinosGarageUSA Thanks for the info, we made a plate out if some 1" bar stock. Used a socket to push against the tapered shaft. Got the pump off without too much trouble.

@@bhartley1024 Glad to hear it.. make sure you have the timing set before re-istalling the new inj. pump. I would suspect you have a manual or something that you are following that gives you this procedure.

If you are going to show me how to do a job, then show me and explain each step.

This is a general how it’s done, to do it correctly you need the Catepillar manual for step by step procedures and specs.
