Adjusting the high RPM limit on a Cat 3208 diesel engine.

The upper RPM limit on our farm truck's Caterpillar 3208 engine was set to just 2200, which limited the road speed to about 60 mph. I don't need a race car...but 2200 was too low for my tastes. I don't do much long highway driving in this truck, but there is a 15-minute stretch into town...and a bit more speed would be nice. The other 3208s we own are factory-set to 2800 RPM, so I think it's safe to bump this one up a bit.
I did not adjust any of the fuel parameters, as I'm not looking for more power or black smoke...just a higher RPM limit.
The Cat 3208 was made for many years and you'll find them in lots of buses and trucks.

The fire department I served in had a pumper built on one of those old cabover Fords. It was built by The Boardman Company here in OKC. We were running to a call one day and I was in the passenger seat donning an SCBA. The driver hit the brakes as I was leaned forward with the result being my head plowing into the windshield and breaking it!Fortunately, my helmet took the brunt of it and I had little more than a sore neck for a day or so. Not to bore you with old war stories, I just always think of that day when I see one of the old Fords.

Not boring at all! Thanks for sharing. Part of what I love about these old vehicles is the history and experiences they've had. Our latest purchase is a Ford C8000 fire truck...the same year and 3208 engine that this truck has. They're cool old trucks...a cross between homely boxy and cool. My daughter think the front looks like a smiling face.

@@RollingLiving yes, looking forward to seeing what you do with the old pumper. BTW, does it have a name yet? Did I miss that?

@@dwjr5129 My wife named the fire truck Charity, because it has that on the front bumper. I'm not sure what the original reason for that was, but it seemed fitting and she likes it. So, Charity she is!

On one your other videos I asked if you did work near Dallas. I see from your other videos, your home base is in Northern AZ. I would guess near Parks or Bellemont. So DFW is probably out. We have a presence in AZ also. We wish you the best in your Route 66 endeavors. Both Seligman and Ashfork have a unique flavor. Our main presence is in Prescott but we have land in Juniper Ranch Ashfork. It is a great getaway spot. It would be great hunting ground. Very rugged country with no water. Our Bluebird would be way under powered coming up the Santa Rosa pass on 40. This 3208 is a turbo so probably has more power (250 version?)

Yes, we're near Flagstaff. We live in Parks and work on buses, one at a time, on our property in Parks. But we keep our buses in a storage lot in Bellemont. You're right on target! I'm sorry I missed your question about Dallas, sir. Prescott and the surrounding area is, indeed, wonderful country.

Hello! I just picked up a 1980 Ford C800 (8000) with the Cat 3208 (non-turbo) with auto-trans. Would you happen to know where I can get the old part number (exploded view) which would include belts and hoses specs? Trying to stack the deck so I can search for parts, etc....thanks

thanks for the video.... I have a 85 wander lodge fc35 and after she received a rebuilt injection pump R&R'd at the local CAT shop.... she won't get up to 65. Seems to pull like it used to up hills but on flat she just won't get there, Wondering if this adjustment is what's needed. The CAT shop also took my working hand pup off and said it wasn't needed. Why would they do that when it wasn't part of the $3400 repair? They even charged me for a valve adjustment but then said it was too difficult to do. Obviously I'm not happy with them but there's not another shop around that will touch an old 3208T.
