Bought a 69 TR-6 in 1978. It was My first car. A real Panties Dropper. Super to drive in the Summer and when the Sun shined, BUT it didn’t like the rain, so it wouldn’t start. Black Magic was a Beast with a strained 6, bored 30 over, Sprinter cam, Ansa quad exhaust (meaning 4 pipes) and an Alpine Cassette player. Sweet and Nasty. I have seen many videos of TR-6 s but yours is the FIRST that starts right up and no valves tap. Super rod.

Mine had tan interior with the carmine red. Bought it off a dealership display. Eighteen years old and had no idea what I was buying. It was eye catching but high maintainance. Got me to work ,play, and college. It was a blast. p.s. the dealership had no idea of what they were selling either. Somehow managed to get 100,000 miles on it.

I have dreams about it over the years.. lot's of fun and amazing to drive. Such control. It saved my life two nights (long story) during my ownership.

Beautiful TR-6. I too fell in love with it when I was at the University of Arkansas/Fayetteville in the late 70s. Had a roommate who had one who was very generous in letting me use it. I loved taking it out into the Boston Mountains to take advantage of the steep hills and sharp curves. Autumn, top down, the engine sound, the way it took the curves. I think the TR-6 is my favorite car of all time and one car I would love to have again. Just something special about the British sportscars of that period!

Oh, holy hell...I just did a time warp to 1988....my first car was a 1973 TR-6 that was the exact same color as this one. Have regretted for decades ever getting rid of it back when I was in the Army. Always loved how when you got on the throttle the rear end kinda squatted as it hustled down the road. Such a fun car...at least when parts were not randomly falling off it (mechanical fuel pump, I'm looking at you).

I purchased a new 1973 TR6 while in the service (1970-1976), same color except with a saddle tan interior. I also had electric overdrive (worked in 3rd and 4th gear). It was fun to drive, top up or down. I kept it for 3 years and sold it for $500.00 less than I paid for it. Typical British Leland cars that nickel-ed and dimed you to death. Electrical problems, forever balancing the Stromberg carborators, replacing the snaps that held the top and tonneau cover down. But, when it ran good it was fun to drive. Bob, you have a nice vehicle.

I had a TR-6 in 1975? It was the TR-6 in British racing green! It had the tan's addle tan interior! I LOVED it! So beautiful..such a great proportion to the body! I traded it for a 1970 Plymouth GTX! A 440/6pak and 4 speed! When I think of both cars today..I cry knowing that both are far more valuable than I ever thought they'd be today! The wood dash on my car seemed to be much darker than this one however. Still, quite a lovely car still!

This car went out of production just before I was old enough to get a drivers' license, but there were a lot on UK roads when I was in my teens. Oh, how I lusted after TR6s and Stags. In my late teens I bought a Mk IV Spitfire, but it wasn't in the same league as this and it was in very poor condition. I'm envious!

I love these cars, the TR-6 in particular. Had one in the mid-70's. Unfortunately it spent much of its time in the shop. My passion for my TR-6 was no doubt one of the reasons my first marriage failed although that's far too simplistic and a discussion elsewhere. Late in 2020 I wanted to get another small sporty car after so many years going without. I decided on a Mazda Miata soft top. Totally dependable and world's beyond a TR- 6 in performance. Triumph cars require a lot of love and devotion not to mention mildly deep pockets. For me, I'll pass and glad I went with the modern equivalent, the Miata. 😁

I fell in love with them around early 70's and had THREE. Loved them all, esp the last, which was a 75 and racing green, tan interior with AC, and a soft AND hard top ! Sure wish I had it now. Got too expensive to fix and I sold. Now they are too expensive to buy, too many boomers like me looking for them !!!

Hi Bob, very nice example, Im over here in London England, I've owned various TR6s over the years, I presently own a 1971 euro spec, fuel injected with overdrive gearbox which is great for cruising along at 80mph! On your car Im seeing something unusual, front bumper with the rubber over riders plus the amco bars and the indicator lights on the front valance, I always thought those front indicators were fitted on the corner of the bumpers when the bumpers had rubber over riders. I used to own an US spec car when I was a student here in the UK, it was imported back from Florida and at the time was quite a cheap car, it had the rubber over riders, indicators on corner of bumpers, twin strombergs like yours and that dreaded carbon canister required for US emissions laws which strangled the power somewhat. Anyway that left hand drive car served me well and I drove it all over Europe before selling the car on to a friend. I believe US cars came with a four speed gearbox as standard but I can tell you the best upgrade you could ever do is to fit either a J Type or A type overdrive box , as you know its like having a fifth gear for cruising, it really drops the revs and takes the strain off the engine making distance driving much more relaxing. Anyway thanks for sharing the video of your car :-)

Install a HIGH CMF electric fan and waterless coolant. The screaming fuel pump and the Cooling system are the weak spots on these cars. Upgrade the fuel pump to a Bosch unit, install an electric fan by looking up the procedure on many forum via google. It will take away the draw that the oem belt driven fan puts on the motor and give you better mpg, more power and better cooling. Then by switching to waterless coolant, it will never corrode and does not expand with heat. Therefore, your cooling system is not pressurized by the steam created by engine heat. Nice car - good to see the originality. I had a 72 in 1980 immaculate. Then took next 4 years to own another. In my opinion these are well undervalued and the last chance to buy a classic British sports car (6 cylinder, front engine, rear drive). They are reasonably usable all year around especially with the hard-top option and a lot of fun. Take my word for it you wont buy a car like this for 2020 price much longer - look where the Austin Healey 3000 and E-Type Jag have headed - this is in the bottom of that league and only relatively large numbers have kept the price down. Get one while you can but do due diligence - they can rust badly including in the chassis frame. But everything can be bought for the car, chassis and body parts included. Check out the TR6 repair videos of Elin Yakov for in dept understanding of the cars. Enjoy.

Lovely car. The TR250 was only sold in the US (carburettor version) in the U.K. they had petrol injection (TR6PI) which is arguably quicker. This car has the original wheels and the very desirable non original Moto Lita steering wheel. Wires were an option as was overdrive. Triumph were taken over by British Leyland in 1972 I think and the build quality went right down as it did with other BL models. Also, engine power was deregulated from 150 to 125bhp to comply with new US regulations. The Triumph straight 6, 2.5L PI engine was developed first and put into the 4 body which became the TR5 (as an interim). As with the 250 this is a rare car (only 3000 or so made). The 6 body was then designed to fit the engine (a version of the straight 6 was also used in the Triumph GT6 and Herald Vitesse models). Earlier models had overdrive in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Later models 3rd and 4th only. Reputedly the 7th quickest production car in the world at the time. Hugely successful. So, the one to get is a pre 1972 150bhp model - this will give a bit of extra grunt at the top end and will easily do over 90mph in third with overdrive. I wish I still had mine.

Kevin Jenkins I didn't mean it seriously and maybe to the more casual onlooker they are similar. However, they re very different cars in the way that they are designed (TR6 has a separate chassis, Stag is monocoque), they had different stylists (as I mentioned) and the engines are very different too !! What connects the two cars best is probably the Triumph 2500 saloon as the Stag's body was based off that and the TR6's running gear was based off that.

No. I think he meant similar to Chevy. I had 6 cylinder saloons 2000cc , 2500S and 2500TC. I believe this engine started life with Standard Motors in the 1930's . I think maybe in diesel form in tractors. Then with cyl' head mods , carb' changes , piston stroke and bore alterations ended up with a 2500 S ( carburettor version to replace the 2500 Petrol injection engine.)
