1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi Pistol Grip 4 Speed in Red & Ride My Car Story with Lou Costabile
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Pheonix AZ on 1-31-24.
We're looking at a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Red Paint. The car comes with the 426 CI Hemi V8 engine and a Pistol Grip 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Randy Schranz. Randy’s had this car since 1974. Randy shares he used to work at a Car Dealership and had a 440 CI V8 Mopar and was a little nervous of the 426 Hemi car. One day in 1974 at the Dealership this car showed up and needed some work, and it had the 426 Hemi and a 4 Speed. The price was right so Randy decided to buy it. Well after years of restoration with the help of his wife, you can see this car looks like the new car in the showroom now. Clearly Randy got over his nervousness of the 426 Hemi too, and he shows us today on our ride.
ENJOY!

I know new hot rods are faster - but they simply do not have the "cool" factor of the '60's muscle car. I mean, "pistol grip" shifter - that is like right out of the book of Steve McQueen! Great car and video!

LOL McQueen drove that 390 Mustang GT 4 spd. in Bullitt - no pistol grip of course and the irony was the bad guys Charger a 440 with a PRNDL on the column had to constantly lift off it was so much faster than the Mustang. You can tell good ol boy here misses the 440 more than this finicky Hemi. 👀

Nice Chally. The race to more efficient 4 cylinders was real in the early 70s. I could see why he got it for 1500.00 . A dumpy leftover turns into a crown jewel. Thanks Lou, Randy and Patty, It was cool seeing styling ques from the '70 in my 2017 SRT392 Hemi. My sis had a green 74 Chally back in the 80s. It was the first car we ever went over 100 mph.

Rubbish..all cars made before 1972 had horsepower over rated by 20% using the fake gross system. After 1971 all cars had to be rated with the true horsepower or NET. 426 is only 350 net hp.

As a Vanishing Point movie fan, the Challenger is the symbol of my era of Pony Cars. And nothing says Pony Car to me more than a Challenger or CUDA. The 426 hemi is special, but l always loved the CUDA AAR 340 with it's lighter 340 CID that had tons of pop and good handling. But l would never turn my back on this beauty.

If I'm not mistaken the N96 Shaker hood was standard on all HemiCudas in '70 but it was an option on Hemi Challengers so since Plymouth had first dibs Dodge ran out of Shakers right off hence you will see more twin scoop hood Hemi Challengers than Power Bulge twin scoop Hemi 'Cudas. 👀

It's a lovely Dodge Challenger especially with the big block Hemi engine. I too like the classic muscle 💪 cars from the 70s. One of my favourites would be a Plymouth Cuda with this radial tyres and the shakers up on the bonnet and 426ci (7.0 litre V8), which I read were unrated at 425bhp. Really were in the region of 450bhp, and could hit 60 mph under 6.0 seconds and under 13 sec quarter mile which is really quick for the late 60s, early 70s. Cars from this era also sound more authentic than their modern day equivalents. I'd buy one if I had the money too. Lovely restoration job.🎉😊❤

My grandfather that recently passed, had 5 classics, was the well know pin striper for that town, everyone with a CAR knew him... his motto was [FIBER-GLASS MY ASS...STEEL IS REAL]
Oh boy! The first thing that comes to mind, the people in the trailer park must not care too much for that car. The 2nd thing that comes to mind, no a/c and it's Arizona?????? Makes it a winter driver and before the monsoon season starts, I'll bet it gets put away for the rest of the year. Nice car!
