On "My Car Story" we're in Saratoga Springs NY on 4-26-23.
We're looking at a 1970 Dodge Challenger in Cadillac Pearl White Paint and hand painted the scallops and gold letters. The car is equipped today with a 426 CI Hemi V8 engine (originally 440), with a 4 Speed transmission.
The car's Owner is Dave DePaulo along with Kelly “Wyso” Tobin the Granddaughter of Ziggy Wyso & Daughter of Bill Wyso. Dave’s had this car since 2005. Kelly shares the MANY stories of her Grandfather & Fathers drag racing history. He was Track Champion of Lebanon Valley Speedway in Nassau NY.
The Saratoga Automotive Museum has cars, educational events on cars, and 120 events a year!
If you’re interested in attending a car show at the Saratoga Automotive Museum or seeing the Museum here is the link to the museum - www.saratogaautomuseum.org
If you come to the Muscle Car Show on 6/3/23 and register your car, a portion of the registration fee goes to charity to help local charities in need. That’s through Charity Motor Club - www.charitymotorclub.com

Hi Scuff, Happy to read this story is touching :-) High praise! Lou
I am just in tears here, reading all of these comments. What a great following you have here Lou! This was the best day of my life! I spent my whole childhood, every weekend at the race track, either collecting time slips, or picking up cans to return, lol. I am so glad so many people out there have a love for Mopar like I do. I know my dad and grandfather were with me on that ride and every day as they watch their grandsons racing across frozen lakes on their sleds. They never had the opportunity to meet these two Mopar legends, but 110 octan continues to run through all of our veins. For all those who want to see her, and many other awesome muscle cars, come down to the Saratoga Auto Museum on June 3 for a great car show.

Cool to see an old race car resurrected. However I think a giant opportunity was missed by not putting on period-correct wheels, such as Cragars or Keystones. Ruins the vibe/look IMO.

@@barrycuda3769 😂 Yeah, I’d never go for them. My muscle car era cars have mostly had factory 14 or 15” mag wheels (GT style on my ‘69 Cougar, and redline tires with PMD Rallye IIs on my ‘72 Luxury LeMans). I could get into 16”, 17”, 18” versions of the classics. But bigger than that the ride quality suffers and the proportions just don’t look “right”. And you really can’t go wrong with Day 2 wheels like Cragars or American Torque Thrusts.

They didn't mention that Both Ziggy and Billy both bought Challengers at the same time. Ziggy's car always was a drag car from the time they bought it and got it across the street to their garage. Billy had a bad wreck in his, that he barely survived. The cars looked pretty similar, Bill's car being a street car was really nice, and ran good. I remember Ziggy having the rear Cragars cut, and welded ( adding another rim to the back so it was harder to detect, to gain width for bigger slicks without affecting the outer fenderwell ) He did have what is now considered a mini tub ,among the first to do it. He was trying anything he could to gain an advantage just like most guys . The family home was close to State Street and I would always ask whoever was driving to go slow past their house, because there was always a fast car or roadster, and one or two with straight axles that ran in the gas classes on Sunday, but snuck out on the streets at night. Ziggy always wore a white shirt in the garage, under the car and at the drag strip. They went South Gl;ens Falls frequently, North Hudson and Fonda as well. ( like Dick Landy ), and always had the pipe in his mouth ....Landy with the cigars.. There was always fast cars on State Street in Schenectady. Parked in front of DeCrosta's bar, The Golden Dragon, and Aunt Jemima's Pancake House. Jack Muldowney's garge was a about 1/4 mile from their house on State St.. Al " Buddy " Abbatiello was also building cars featured in magazines, along with a few car clubs ( and their garages all within 1/4 mile of the Wyso's home in the other direction. Please share the photos of the Willys, that car was wicked..., Billy put that one in the weeds on Chrysler Ave. , ( on it's roof in a scrapyard, no injuries, but a broken heart ) and Ziggy had a friend that fixed it all Winter long that year with a hammer and dollie. Does Jim DeNooyer still have it?? I have a Christmas card from Billy.. he signed it " Wild Willy Wyso's Willys ". Please get rid of the wheels on his car and put the Cragars back on with the appropriate tires . Ziggy and Billy would NEVER approve. PLEASE get rid of them.

¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!

Yeah, when she said, "Canary Yellow", I knew that wasn't right. Citron Yella could be correct, because the Mopar marketing guys were very adept at coming up with clever names for the exterior colors. I do know the same color was called, "Lemon Twist" but I couldn't tell you offhand, whether it was a Dodge or a Plymouth color name. The same color had different names for each make.
@kevinpatrick8788

@@budlanctot3060 you are correct . Plymouths name for FY1 was Lemon Twist even though it was the same colour as the Cirton Yella . Im fond of this colour because I owned a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner factory V code 440-6 barrel and it was also FY1 Lemon Twist .

Awesome story. I’ve been going to Lebanon Valley since a kid in the 70s. I’m sure Ive seen it run on one of my many Sundays at the track while filling my face w/French fries covered in malt vinegar. I’m from Pittsfield Ma. right over the mountain👍🏼👍🏼

Easy way to fix that hand liner take it out remove all cloth and foam from the panel board spray it with truck bed liner paint gives it that black vinyl look and it's all you need and will never come down on top of your head

Other than those godawful rims and tyres on it now (makes it look like a Happy Meal Toy), it's a beauty.

Hi John, Happy meals are FUN :-) I know you heard this one has not been seen since 1987.....so the slicks are shot. So if you want to see this one in motion, then these tires & rims will have to do, Lou
Great story and very cool car. Also s/o to NY Capital District/Saratoga region. My dad bought a car from that dealer in ‘74. Not a Challenger unfortunately. Thanks, Lou. Always enjoy your channel.
