These videos are a gold mine. George Knudson was a great man and a friend of my Grandmothers, they worked for years together at Oakdale GCC.

There aren't enough videos of George! I read his book, watched every video on KZread. He had such a great way of teaching the golf swing. The natural swing motion changed everything for me!

Wow, the model holes are so much more pleasing than drone flyovers and CGI animation. I wish I had one of them.

How cool are those scale models of each hole. I wonder if they still exist.

Thanks for posting this. I saw this broadcast as it happened in '69 and read the subsequent article the next week written by Dan Jenkins for Sports Illustrated. I remembered Archer winning, Knudson contending, and Coody bogeying, but had completely forgotten about Casper and his chip shot nearly going in. I played with Mr. Coody in August of '72, the year following his Master's victory, in a tournament where there was a junior tournament being played while the pro we played with competed against other pros. There were 21 pros and 63 juniors who made the cut in our tournament and three of us were paired with each pro. While Coody only won 3 tour events in his long career, he won twice on European Tour, five times on the Champions Tour, and played continuously in the Masters through 2006.

This is the game I fell in love with before Augusta became the Disney version of a golf course and players made up their own minds up about club selection and strategy without lengthy discussions and instructions from a caddie as part of the 'team'. The golf course looks far more natural back then,judging by the stripes the greens were hand mowed.

Those scale models of each hole are super cool! I hope they are still around somewhere.

USGA definitely should learn some marketing concepts from Augusta National. They seem more interested in the coin, rather than the promotion of golf.

Arnold Palmer said that George's approach on the 18th was as great a pressure shot as he'd ever seen.

WONDERFUL - and a great reminder of what a worthy champion George was.

Those scale models of each hole are super cool. Hope they still exist.

Watched Casper practicing putting once on a big empty green. It was phenomenal. Great seeing Mr X

amazes me that this broadcast isn't that different from todays broadcast. The slow mo critique of players swings were cool to see.

This is where all the Masters frustration began for Weiskopf. So close so often but never won. Arguably only Greg Norman experienced more heartache at Augusta than Tom.

Wieskopf was the Greg Norman of his era at Augusta, so close so many times.

it was said that Weiskopf had a very short temper and that was his downfall..

Fantastic videos, back in the days when trousers were measured in chest size. Got to love the scale models.

it’s crazy how close to the green the spectators were. nuts.

George Archer. Great swing, great short game. His shot on 15 after taking a drop, getting up and down was truly something. Amazing approach shot on 18 pin hi likely exactly where he was aiming. He then has the respect for the golf course and the game to replace his own divot. Now that is class. After his death , with his permission his widow announced that George Archer was in fact illiterate. Pretty amazing what he accomplished.

This was the first major win using a Ping Anser. Amazing to think how many more majors would be won using Karsten Solheim’s putter design.

They had to. Other than lengthening the course, it had become so easy they had to have a challenge somewhere.

Bermuda to bent, was the raison d'etre. How they get bent grass, to not wilt in Georgia's Spring, and Summer, is a tale of engineering. Subterranean cooling is somewhat dull, so I won't go into the details!

There was a continuous putting rule that year at the Masters, so Archer had to make his second putt before Weiskopf putted. Weiskopf was quoted as how he hated that rule, as he liked to mark his ball and take his time putting. He had several three putts (I believe seven during the four rounds), which he claims was one of the reasons he did not win.

Wow! From the camera behind him you could trace Archer's t-shot on 14! (6:15)

Trevino told Casper after 54 holes that he had no chance to ever win at Augusta, so he didn't even bother to show up the following year. and yes, Billy did claim his green jacket in '70

Wonder now that Billy Payne longer runs Augusta we may see more stuff like this from Augusta National?

There seem to be no Commercial breaks...no wonder so many people loved the 50's and 60's

So weird to see players not shaking hands after the 18th hole.

it’s really a minor miracle to have ANYTHING in the way of FULL Masters coverage from as far back as the late 1960s. ..they have a great KZread channel!

Back when you could actually hit a putt, at the Masters. Now all they can do is tap it and watch it roll 20 feet. That's not golf.

No drug testing back then boys and girls!!

Because there was no way to broadcast live television in colour. They could only do it with some films as part of the post-production process.
