Oh man!...I have an old AMTDaytona, ..bought it over 10 years ago, just to make a "Joe Dirt"...got the big beef and Cragars, cut out the headlight door...got the movie on dvd for reference pics...and then...it stalled....but now, thanks to you, I've got the bug again, and it's on!!

Great build, and I love your use of grout for weathering powder! I used the Revell kit for my "Deer-tay" Daytona build, kudos to you for making that old reissued kit got together so well.

I hope EVERYONE has a chrome "barefoot gas pedal" in their spare parts box!

thanks for sharing your joe dirt car so cool the history of the holes on fenders was because the front tires on the nascars were rubbing the fenders the scoops were just to cover the holes thanks agian chris

I really enjoyed how you built this one. Ironically I decided to start on a build of the Joe Dirt Daytona about a week ago, as I couldn't figure out what to do with this older, incomplete AMT issue I've had for years.. Oddly enough I've never seen the movie, so been trying to research as many details about the car as possible, and really glad I found your video. Like yours, it won't be exact to the movie car, but I am adding slicks on the back, and I've opened one headlight door so far. And other than the mismatched seat covers, the chain steering wheel, I can't tell what color the interior is supposed to be on the real car, so I'll have to improvise, as you did. Thanks for the tips on weathering, I needed to re-learn other methods of doing this, which, I find is way more fun than building them looking like pristine show cars.

Revell would be better for that. They have second gen chargers, 69 Daytona, 70 road runner and 70 super bird. Way better detail on those kits too. Unfortunately round2 doesn’t have licence for a super bird.

From this, I just learned that the old General Lee was this kit minus the custom parts AND the nosecone. I'm actually surprised that they were able to fix the molds that much. They're far from perfect, but they're WAY better than they used to be. That said, to make a stock Charger, the body would be wrong 'cuz of the rear window mod for the Daytona. Nice work as always.

it was the Charger 500, which was then used for the General, then this. yeah, they get plenty of mileage out of them molds. The newest release of the Dukes car has the correct buttress rear window from the 1970 charger body.

Your vid inspired me to build a Joe dirt Daytona. Working on it now. Using an old junk general Lee glue bomb as a basis .didn't have a fresh kit in my stash.. Scratch built the Daytona nose and wing using borrowed parts as a pattern . Got her in primer now.

Looks like a really fun build. I need to watch the movie now. Lol

I saw this at Hobby Lobby (or it was Hobby Town); if I knew it could be made as a regular '69 Charger I would have gotten it; I might think of getting this one. Thank you for this video! Meant to get some photos and show you the job I did on the MPC '69 country charger (it was my 3rd time doing it), and think it turned out nice (but ended up selling it; but I did live stream some working on it). Ohh, that one piece, I dont know what it is, but it goes on the bottom of the chasis, at/near the rear wheels. I forgot about it the 1st two times I built the MPC '69 charger kit (not sure if I put it on my 3rd build either). It wasn't [til] after I was finished that I noticed that part and was checking the instructions about it. lol

From what I can remember, the main reason there were the holes in the fenders was so that the front tires would have more space due to them hitting the inside of it at high speeds. Though it did lead to slight improvements in drag coefficients and better aerodynamics. Great video as always and a great build.

That's not exactly true, real car doesn't have large holes in its fenders for the wheels. In reality it's got a simple mesh underneath those extensions. They served only aerodynamic and cooling purporse.

Awesome video though. Ive learned so much from you and my daughters watch your channel too. They are just getting into model building

The part in question is a rear-end cooler; it was part of a NASCAR version. There also was a smaller oil cooler on the chrome tree that was meant for inclusion under the hood. BTW, the AMT version of the Charger Daytona requires extensive body work needed for incorporating the nose cone. But your "Joe Dirt" version is nothing short of genius. ( The Revellogram version is still the better version of the kit, but this one's okay 😊😊 !) Thanks, Chris !

Nice build!!! Odd they didn't do a little better on those front fender extenders.

I’d love to find the history of this kit and it’s various reissues. It’s been this, multiple General Lees, the city and country Chargers, they dumbed it down as the snap kits, Doms 70 Charger, I think there was a Charger 500. Talk about getting your money’s worth.

Scalemates.com will tell you the history and issues of the kits. The snap kit you've seen recently, such as my Coke bottle build, is a completely different kit.

~you did a great job on this but I was disappointed in buying this one at its price~the MPC version of the 1969 Country Charger was a lot more beefier and sturdier and hardly no flashing~seems this was a very cheaply made model with a bad mold to make it~I built 3 MPC Chargers with a better appearance than what I just built with this one~as I made the drag option with a hood scoop and blower~that part at 3:37 goes underneath the chassis in the hump for the rear suspension sysytem where the differential comes out~there is a tab that accepts it as in the MPC version to me it looks like an air filter element but why underneath the car is beyond me~good job and keep it up~😀👍

Watch out for them Boeing Bombs.

it looks like the exact some kit as the original General Lee kit with the Dodge 500 body instead of the correct R/T body... not a bad kit, but wrong for the General. You inspired me to try the same type thing with the General kit that kit I have

Can you explain how to use crackle medium cos I can get it to work

that part may be a battery box for a drag version chris

I think it might be a oil cooler cause I think it might be a left over from a NASCAR kit or it just ended up in this kit since it's not even in the instruction manual I have a 65 galaxie 500 kit that's got drag and race parts I think one of the charger kits had similar parts

How exactly did you go about getting the back of the charger to have that bit of lift? I know you talked about it but I paused it at the end when you showed off the chassis, I didn't know if you did something specific for it or not
