C/K is a series of trucks that were manufactured by General Motors. Marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the C/K series included a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size SUVs. Used for both the model branding and the internal model code, "C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive.
Introduced for the 1960 model year, four generations of the model line were produced, with GMC rebranding full-size pickups under a singular GMC Sierra nameplate for 1988. GM marketed the C/K in South America in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.
After 1989, medium-duty trucks exited the C/K series, replaced by the Chevrolet Kodiak/GMC TopKick. For 1999, the Chevrolet Silverado (marketed by GMC as the Sierra) replaced the model line, with production of C/K pickup trucks ending after the 2000 model year. Drawing its nameplate from the top-level C/K trim, the Silverado consolidated Chevrolet pickup trucks under a singular nameplate (following GMC). The final C/K vehicles were heavy-duty chassis cabs sold through the 2002 model year.
Numerous changes occurred in 1971. First came another new grille design (the "egg crate") for Chevrolet trucks and black paint over portions of the GMC grille. Second, an additional trim package was introduced: the Cheyenne. On GMC models, this was equivalent to the Sierra. These packages consisted mostly of comfort features - nicer interiors, more padding and insulation, carpet, chrome trim, and upper and lower side molding and tailgate trim. 1971 was the first year for AM/FM radios factory installed. Finally, the front brakes on all light-duty trucks were switched from drum brakes to disc brakes, resulting in much less brake fade under heavy use. While prior C/K half-ton trucks had used a six-lug bolt pattern (6 x 5.5") for the wheels, two-wheel-drive models switched to a five-lug pattern (5 x 5-inch bolt circle) common to Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Cadillac passenger cars. The 1/2 ton 4 x 4 retained the 6 lug bolt pattern. This bolt pattern would remain the standard through the end of the C/K series (along with the Chevrolet/GMC vans). The 20 and 30-series trucks had the 8 x 6.5" pattern. Also, Chevrolet changed the 396 V8 emblem designation to 400 V8.
The 1972 models were very similar to the 1971 models, with the only change being the rear view mirror was glued to the windshield rather than bolted to top of the cab, and metal or vinyl-covered flat door panels were no longer available; all trim level door panels were molded plastic with integral armrests and wood grain inserts on Cheyenne and Sierra trim levels. For restoration, it should also be noted that the door and window cranks were slightly longer due to the molded plastic door panels, and the vent windows were now secured with a single screw on the inside of the door, thus differentiating it from the 1971 model year. The trim levels were rearranged on GMCs, with the Custom now being the lowest level (the Deluxe being dropped) and the Sierra and Sierra Grande becoming separate trim levels at the top of the lineup rather than option packages as before.

I love how broad the age group of people who build models are , I’m 14 and my grandpa got me into the hobby a couple years ago. I love building all sorts of middles from armor models to cars to battleships and I love the connection it brings with it.

I heard the Johan molds were destroyed but you'd think one of the model companies would clone some of those great kits,,,they were very desirable and would go over big today

I miss the Jo-Han kits too. I had many. But it seems the tooling has changed hands so many times, no one knows where they are, or if they still exist.
I love the AC/DC reference, 1990 400 watts and an equaliser. You were the king!

Razor's EDGGEEEEEE!
This is my Favorite 70's truck body of all time
I finally got mine built and the video posted after watching your review Chris. I did mine as an older used hauler
Headlight tip,,, paint those chrome lenses gloss white and before the paint can dry wipe off only the middle so the white fades back to the edge,,,looks pretty real,,,try it you'll like it
Awesome work there, Sir! Also, now you have a nice stock pair of side mirrors for one of your other trucks! (Bonus!)
I just finished this kit. I used alot of your tips and techniques from this video. Thanks for all the info hpiguys 👍

This will make a great display for vintage race cars and muscle cars. Also saw you using orange sharpie for turn signals red works well on chrome and on clear if you don't have clear paint.

Yup, used red on the tails.
Sprue trees, cab, bed & chassis are molded the exact same as the amt '72 Chevy...only thing different is the optional wedge bed & tools...but I think I need to get one of these for the accessories...
Love the old school ramp/wedge truck...now you need to load a sweet gasser on board & head for the local 1320' ✌😎 I have a old photo of Bruce Larson's USA1 Camaro sitting on one of those wedge trucks !

My father had a 72 Chevy Pickup in a similar baby blue. It was his competitive Truck Puller. "Little Blue" was the name. Always bring me back seeing that cab and color combo.

I like the way you detailed your models. My dad had a car that was in HotRod Magazine twice and made the cover once. I might have a business deal for you. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Keep up the good work!!!
I want a couple of these. One to build as done here, and a second one to put the ramp on a Ford truck and put the pickup body on a USA-1 monster truck chassis. Sand off the lower body trim, paint it Caddy pearl white and use the USA-1 decals and it will look great. Kitbashing is a fun part of the hobby.

Glad to see this re-released. My goal is to restore the kit my dad built in 1970 when he bought his C10 (now mine) new, duplicate my 70, and duplicate the 71 blazer we had when I was growing up.
I like the way you built this kit. This kit reminds me why I liked MPC kits back in the day. They didn't cost as much as most Revell kits also. Dirt track racing was a big thing in my area and we used to make race cars. We used the plastic that the parts were molded from to build roll cages. Our creations would have look great on the back of your hauler.

Hi! Thanks for this video and the others. I did never see a real one of these and I won't see one soon for sure as I am not living in U.S.A. But it looks great as it is the normal thing in your videos. This looks great with the tools and I love tools as I do modelling. I think I'd love to buy mpc and other brands of model car directly, but everything that comes out of U.E. is a pain in the ass to get to me... Please keep posting your models.
