1962 Tonka Cement Truck Restoration
I purchased this 1962 Tonka Cement Truck off the Facebook exchange early May of 2020. It was extremely rusted, the drum was yellowed and cracked, it was missing the cement funnel and overall was crying out to be restored.

I’m 67 and had this truck as a child - great job !! My brother and I wore that truck out - so many memories
Once again we see a true artisan at work. That which would be scrapped by many is expertly restored to better than brand new. A true craftsman at work and it is a delight to watch you employ your many skills. Congratulations - again.
I was born in 1972 in Seoul, Korea. I had this when I was a kid. I certainly remember the 'Tonka' logo. Mine was orange color and the front part looked a little different. Thank you for remembering me of my childhood.

Though I’m a woman I had several tonka vehicles thanks to a grandfather who didn’t discriminate. My male cousins also got the same. I had the Allied Van lines moving van, the multi-car transport semi, and the fire engine and the road grader. They were all from the late 60’s early 70’s. Like you, I sure had fun playing in the dirt, making roads etc. And I still grew up to be a nurse and I don’t suffer any gender identity problems.
I love how u restore the cars to their original factory sets
That was amazing. The fact that you cut out the rusted metal and replaced it and made sure every curve and bend matched the original is great attention to detail. That is how they restore an actual truck.
We were a lucky generation to have such beautiful toys. I never had one of these Cement Trucks, but… Truly a thing of joy.
Oh wow look how small the junkyard was back then! Glad to see the sheep were there.
Nice, I had that as a child. A jealous friend stomped on the drum and smashed it just because he knew it was my newest and favorite toy at that time. I didn't talk to him for years after that. Haha, children's tragedies.
I had that truck when I was little. I had forgotten about it. Nice nostalgic moment. Thanks.
@18:45 DAAAAAAMN!!!! That plastic really brightened up! I had no idea you could do that!!
I appreciate the fact that you use primer before you paint. I can't stress how much better it makes the final paint look, imo.
Love watching you bring these toys back to life. They are just like new. Man, you're good!
When I was bored, I watched it every day, but I think it's good to fix it because it's like a doctor of a toy. It's like giving life. If the toys can come alive when there is no person, like the toys in Toy Story, all the toys may one day give you a great gift with a great gratitude and feeling of being born again.
Thank you for providing the list of supplies and providers. I have a pair of pickup trucks I received for Christmas in the mid-60s ( I told both grandmothers I needed a truck, LOL ) Now I am planning to restore at least one out of the two to give my grandson for Christmas 2020. They were much loved and were played with hard. I hope I can get one looking good again.
Excellent job... with all the required functions such as: painter, lantern, mechanical lathe, carver, assembler, parts washer... what else? Nothing, nothing!!! Perfect
Now thats a real restoration. Not one of those " randomly finds fake rusted toy in tree, now it needs fixed " videos
I had one of these in the 70's! I miss the metal toys from then and not the crap they make today!!

What? It looked far better when it was brand new in 1962.
Fantastic Cement Mixer😎. I had the smaller one and packed the barrel with clay, green clay. I was never able to get it all out. I was Very impressed that you repaired the cab instead of getting a replacement from another truck. Tonka made millions of those cabs. You did an excellent job with the repair too. You welded so that you didn't risk warping the steel👍. In the end I only saw a minute amount of filler, Brilliant work. I have been watching many of your restorations and you spend a lot of time wet sanding to get the paintwork just right, The vehicles come out so well, and the sanding is well beyond my level of patience.👍
One of your best videos yet. The patch panel on the cab was a work of art in matching the fender and bend at the bottom of the cab. Just fantastic!

Where is the best place to order replacement parts
I remember playing with this truck as a kid. My cousins had some cool trucks, with Tonka being the best of the best. Beautiful restoration.
Fully expected to see that cab swept off the table...truly the extra mile ! Great job restoring the drive mechanism and machining new axle keepers. Amassing quite a collection beautifully restored classic metal trucks, boat tail included. Sure they will be admired for years to come.

Even with the rusted door repair, and the front tire Hubs. There was no dead end to this restoration. JUST A FEW DETOURS. Great job as always.
Wow , whatta great job you've done. That white plastic is approx 60 yrs old, now it looks brand spanking new. Awesome job sir !! 👍👍
You have madd game. seeing you cut out the rust and replacing it impressed the Hell out of me.
So cool
We use to melt lead on old vehicles and sand it down. It made fantastic filler. Your doing a beautiful job
That door repair was top notch!
My favorite restoration on this channel, by far.
U have the passion, the perfection, the tools and above all the inspiration & the perspiration to get these masterpieces the treatment they deserve. Sometimes (everytime) they look better than they come from the factory!👍🏻❤️
The trick you did to get the hub/lock is what I do on hoses stuck on the bibbs. 👍👍 just no heat .
I am trying to limit myself to one of your restorations a day to slowly enjoy your masterpieces. Then when caught up, I can start over again from the beginning. Excellent work!

The trick with the peroxide and the uv light was one that I didn't know. It was magical! I always learn something new that I can't wait to try! Thanks!
Fantastic work Chip. You would never know that you had to repair the cab at all!🙂🚗🛠
you are a master craftsman. Thanks for bringing that truck back to life.
That's truck is as old as me I was born in 1962 very nice job 😎👍👍
I can hardly believe what I see. Repairs of holes in metal with Superglue and baking powder are known, but that someone would weld something like that (like a real truck) is absuloutly stunning. Terrific work, mate, I'm absolutely thrilled. Too bad I can only give you one thumbs up, you deserve at least ten. (here are the other nine 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼) Thanks for sharing and greetings from Cuxhaven on the German North Sea coast. 👍🏼😁🏅👍🏼😁
Again, Another awesome restoration. They just don't make toys like they used to. Back then they were good. Today, Nothing but plastic.
Incredible amount of skill and patience. What a beautiful restoration. Congrats!
Well done probably one of the best ones I have seen you do. like the peroxide bucket trick.
The drum and gear whitening and the rust spot repair were seriously awesome and some of my favorite parts of your restoration vids!
Watching your restorations, that huge investment on time, the right tools, equipment, materials, effort and patience; kinda relaxes me. This is quality work.
Got to love it. This guy is a master Craftsman.
Me fascinan tus restauraciones, adoro escuchar el "click" cuando insertas las piezas, excelente trabajo, saludos desde Sinaloa México. amor y Paz 🤗👌✌️
Yet ANOTHER toy truck now returned to its second life! 🚛
Very nice work! Especially the metal replacement on the side of the truck. You would never know it had been done. Awesome 👍

I enjoy your masterpieces of restoring those lost toys.
Sometimes you just have to say my way there is no highway option! Hahaha
You are one of the best. Awesome work. Thank you for sharing.
That is one cute cement truck. 😍
Grinder is the mating call to the horse fly!! Lol
Outstanding, yet again!
You are a master at these things of restoration. They look even better than at one time new on the shelves at a toy store. How stunning that you make them individual to shine really immaculate. 🏆👍🏻😊👍🏻☀️
Непревзойдённая работа! Так восстановить машину и механизм, по плечу только высокопрофессиональному мастеру! 👏💗👍🌺✨ Благодарю за полученное удовольствие! 🤗🌼
Another work of art for the TonKa Museum. Airplane next! Those front tire removals reminded me of my rear panhard removal on my 73 Celica last year! The bolts would not let go! Too funny!
Had one as a kid, but it had a metal concrete drum on it. I wore it out. it was definitely a high mileage vehicle.
Carnot believe how good this cement mixer came up the drum after you had finished with it looks new another great job 😀👍👍
Hello, I would love to restore old Tonka toys but 10 years ago I lost about 60% use of both hands due to nerve damage in my neck, anyway love the video's keep up the good work and god bless and stay safe.

Another reason why it took so long for; the engineer to restore this iron toy is that, there was a hole that was already on one panel. It needed some welding work.🕳

Why do I have the feeling that Chip looks like the toy restorer from Toy Story?
Magnific colection! I love Mini Trucks. 👏👏👏
I love the way the parts tremble in anticipation in the oven.Just goes to show anything is possible with the money to have the right equipment and money for spares. No reflection on your work or commitment to a great job.
W O W !! C O O L!!
Rust Never Sleeps !
That repair job on the hole was phenomenal. Fabulous!
I have this truck from my childhood. Better check it for rust!
Excellent workmanship. Door panel an everything. You are the best..
Absolutely beautiful job. I love how you fixed the drives door, I would of used fiberglass filler only because I don’t have a welder and don’t know how to use one.
Wow the "completed collection" is looking pretty impressive.
She's a beauty!! Nice work!
Master Restorer!
That is amazing these trucks are made of good metal.
wow, that welding was so good! Love the job. Great video and awesome resto!
This restoration was one of the best I've seen done by anyone. Even Rescue and Restore should be impressed. Keep the video's coming - you (and your little sheep) are amazing!

OUTSTANDING...fantastic group...OUTSTANDING
Whatever we do. Wherever we go. There will always be flies!
You know what I like about your channel? You don't falsely make these models look worse than they are! One popular youtube channel covers his models in sand and dirt before he starts! Excellent restoration by the way! Looks like that flesh fly was coming to inspect your work!🤣 I am so glad you chose to fix that cab! Great job! I do not envy you that sanding work! Kudos to you! Wouldn't super glue take care of that drum? Wow! Looks brand new! Ever play with your "toys"?😉
How beautiful these renovations are, a pity they weren't made with rear-view seats and doors that open. The panel looks wonderful 🤗
Can't believe you saved the cab, most would have replaced it. You have definitely separated yourself from the other restorers. The orange and yellow dump truck is a harder color to come by and I look forward to what you do with it.
This level of restoration remembers me of Overhaulin'
Great job, I had that truck when I was a kid and I also had the blue and white dump truck and the car hauler truck. You did a beautiful job. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful job, especially being able to repair that large rusted out door side! Thank you for sharing, looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful talent! Truck just beautiful! Have a great day! JP JR., From the Poconos, Pennsylvania
You must have a Tonka graveyard near you cos they seem to end up in your parking lot!!!!! This has to be the first restoration whereby the body work gets the same treatment as a full size vehicle, absolutely brilliant piece of "micro engineering". Nice one Chip.
That is really a very impressive restoration. The red against the white really works well.
