The KKK has also shrunk to the point of almost complete irrelevance losing their grip on power they gained in the 1920s. The United States has even elected two Catholic presidents (although how Catholic our current president really is, is debatable). While I do believe in freedom of religion, I do not think religious organizations should be allowed to control the education system and indoctrinate children when they are at their most impressionable. Children should be educated in an as objective and neutral way as possible, so they can decide themselves what they believe. Creating an entire generation of religious fanatics will not be good for any country.

Parents choose to send their kids to religious schools and if you shut down all the religious schools you basically close down half the schools in nearly every country.
