I knew of the Christo wars, I’ve seen pictures of executions, but not a lot of detail. I read The Power & The Glory which, I believe is fictional, I don’t know if Greene wrote it about that time period or not. But, right now, today, priests are being killed, cities evacuated, children left orphans. I guess it feels similar and is much more urgent.

Thank you for this video, Gregory, and bringing attention to the topic. It's very important to point out the U.S. government was on Calles' side, and it wasn't until the Knights of Columbus raised a boatload of money and met with President Coolidge that Americans had the opportunity to see the plight of the Cristeros. I only suggest you try to say Spanish names a little more slowly. Although I am fluent in Spanish and understood "Venustiano Carranza" and "Plutarco Elias Calles," it's only because I'm familiar with Mexican history. God bless you and your work.

But I never knew this about Mexico. And find it surprising given the dominance of Catholicism in Mexico today. Interesting video, and also find it so surprising that worshipping as one wishes can be considered such a threat to another person that they commit murder. Especially when it is not being forced onto people.

Thank you for the message and history lesson. It did happen in the US. Namely the Mormons. There was bounties and laws pass to persecute on site. We of all faith, pouting God at the head, needs to stick together regardless of our theological differences

You, dear Mormon know absolutely nothing about Mormon history. Let's begin with Smith's lie regarding a great apostacy...before you think of anything else, consider that lie, of which Mormonism was founded on. Catholics have absolutely nothing in common with Mormonism's heretic theology. My husband is a TBM, I am very well studied regarding Mormonism and I'm ensuring that he will eventually leave such a false religion behind. Mormonism is not Christianity...I do everything possible to instill facts regarding Mormonism. It appears you also know nothing of the reality-based accounts regarding the 1840s, 500 man Mormon battalion that Brigham Young put together to fight for the US against Mexico, including the heavily persecuted Catholics. So no, I don't stand with you, not ever. Mormonism began as an enemy against God's church ...Mormonism constantly hides and lies about its history, white washing everything to keep those white picket fences around the PROVEN to be false prophet, IMPOSTER of Christianity, the filthy lying Joseph Smith. Go right ahead and defend him..... Mormonism will ensure that you do with their constant propaganda resources.

All religions at some point in time face persecution. Today, it's Hebrews, and the Jewish people of Israel due to Israel being surrounded by Muslim countries. If Israel were a Christian country, the same would probably be happening. As it seems Muslims in the middle east, in Muslim countries, do not practice religious freedom. The same can be said for Communist countries, and dictatorships like China and N. Korea. Though N. Korea is probably the worst, as Kim Un, their President mandates by sentence of death, to worship him as a God, or else. People wonder how the Roman empire managed to exist for so long a period, 700 years? They actually did practice religious freedom for most of its existence. Allowing territories conquered to worship as they wished (as long as they paid their taxes). Then when Christian persecution became the dominant theme in Rome, it became the end of Rome.

Jews have always been the persecutors, especially now. What they are facing in the middle east is resistance and pushback against zionism, not persecution.

Catholicism which demands a Democracy which is similar to the French Revolution that results in a ultra rich class and peasant class. Protestantism desires a Republic which is similar to the American Revolution which has a government for the people which creates a middle class that can elevate itself in the future.

@@5MinuteCatholicApologetics I guess what I'm trying say is after Cortez took over Mexico and brought with him the Roman Catholic church that went unchecked for about 300 years and when finally challenged, they cry wolf seems a little strange that Catholics felt attacked considering they left common person with no other choice but to be Roman Catholics.... Being first generation Mexican American with my family not knowing their history other than being poor framers in their village under strict Catholic traditions..
