I’m looking for info on the BEF in Greece during April/May 1941. My father was there and told me that the Greek people smuggled him down through the olive groves to the Port of Piraeus and he got a ship to Alexandria. I’m trying to trace his route. What area would this have covered?

This was a guy named Milton Trager. He actually formed a system of body work called the Trager system. I used to know him as a kid as he taught my mom in body work. His wife was actually a cousin to Moe, Shemp and Curly of the three stooges (a couple photos exist with Milton and Moe together).

Marseille Murder. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs Barthou was also killed in this incident. In the face of the growing threat of Hitler's aggression, Barthou acted as an *active supporter of a collective security policy jointly with the Soviet Union* (with the Soviet People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs Maxim Litvinov). During the terrorist attack, Barthou was wounded and soon died from loss of blood. After World War II, evidence emerged that *the assassination attempt was organized by the Abwehr (Operation Teutonic Sword) through Croatian nationalists.* The assistant to the German military attaché in Paris, Captain of the General Staff Hans Speidel, was named the main coordinator of the operation. For a long time, it was believed that Barthou died from the bullet of Chernozemsky, but in 1974 a forensic examination established that the bullet that hit him was not 7.63 mm (like Chernozemsky’s), but an 8 mm caliber, which was used by *French police.* The incident became one of the most notorious murders of the 20th century.

Bob Hope was the number one A-list comedic actor at that time, comparable to Jim Carrey 10 or 15 years ago. He also had the juice to bring a lot of other A-listers with him. For him to risk his life to bring America to our GIs was extraordinary. He started a tradition that continues to this day and I wish that we could see the USO tours that are happening even now televised much more frequently than they have been. A lot of great performers are endangering themselves to bring America to our troops abroad. My dad served in World War II in England and France and those USO visits were important to him. We watched the USO special on television every year until the day he died. I don’t need to know about what a bastard Bob Hope was etc. etc. this one achievement makes me hero in my book.

So after an accident or incident in her eye, she made an emergency landing in a random place for her ( Nopala ) in the middle of cacti, she wrote in her log book, then "villagers and about 40 cowboys" helped her take off to Mexico City, where she arrived 30 minutes later. This video is of the official landing in Mexico City, with her husband J.P., waiting for her at the airport, together with the then foreign minister Emilio Portes Gil, 10,000 spectators, soldiers, and police, there were also a dozen officials from both countries. This video is in Llanos de Balbuena. The president of Mexico, Lazaro Cardenas received her. There were daily celebrations. She stayed in Mexico City and its surroundings (Taxco apparently) from April 20th to May 8th, 1935. She then flew to Newark in another historic flight that required preparations in Balbuena, like a new and longer (3-mile) runway made by Mexican soldiers. It was required because she needed extra fuel tanks for the long-distance flight. (Biography book by Doris L. Rich). So this is in fact Mexico City and this airplane was her famous Vega.
