1930s Marx Wyandotte Searchlight Truck Restoration
I purchased this little Marx Wyandotte Searchlight truck off eBay mid June of 2020. The truck was missing its spotlight lens and the battery retainer was completely rusted out. Everything was dull and the paint was worn down. As soon as I saw this truck, I knew I had to have it. I hope you enjoy this restoration as much as I did. Thanks for watching!

All these restorations remind me of a time when children not only used their imagination to play, but their play consisted of things that were useful to society. Ambulance, search and rescue, tow truck, fire, even trash trucks. I must be really old, because I find myself bemoaning the fact that kids don’t have to play together anymore. They just have to have a device that does their imagining for them. Thanks for rescuing these relics of bygone days❤️
This has been one of my favorite Restorations. I was WOW'd by the complexity of the Searchlight for a Metal Toy built in the 30's held together with rivets and bent tabs. Beautiful Job!
I love the last minute. The line up.. you can imagine a kid in 1938 having those.. and then the sound of the train REALLY makes it seem like time travel is real..
So good to hear children having fun and laughing, it makes for a happy family :)
This was very nice. As much as I appreciate you returning it to as close to original as you can, part of me wanted you to replace the bulb with several high wattage LED bulbs, a good size battery and a little vinyl batman sticker over the lens.
I can't understand why 9 people would give a thumbs down that was a great restoration. John
Getting better and better with each project.
I had the white tow truck as a kid in 1968. Tons of fun!
Hi Chip,I hope you’ve had a good day? I truly enjoyed watching this video. Now you have another pretty truck to add to the fleet! Thank you for sharing with us. Peace Out!🤟😎
I can't be the only person surprised that there were battery powered light up toys in the 30s... These must have been the coolest thing!
Think about putting an 'Oscar statuette' in the green utility box as an extra- incase a movie star forgets the one they were carrying around. I think that this restoration is one of my favorites!. Your skills and craftsmanship is unmatched!
Excellent! Such attention to detail. I really like your "junk yard", so many projects, so little time!
So satisfying to watch the transformation. Now it's better than new!
A beautiful job on this Wyandotte . You did this truck justice. Stay Real.

Excellent work. Beautiful truck
Amazing video as usually thank u
Looks great. Never seen a light truck before.
Great restoration job again👍
I admire your desire and skill to restore these old toys. You are preserving a piece of history. I am glad that you have the time, talent and equipment to save them. I have a CNC plasma cutter and I could have made the part for you but you did a fine job. Keep up the good work and nice videos. 😀😀😀😀
One of your best yet! There is NO WAY this truck looked this good when Marx manufactured it new.

Looks fantastic well done.
Outstanding restoration amazing as new Chip!
Just think that this reborn toy was the apple of some youngster's eye so many years ago.
I love listening to the sound of the tools!
EXCELENTE TRABAJO !!!!
The best toy restorer I've ever seen. 🇧🇷
The golden age of tap construction! Lionel tin plate trains from the same period really kept the tap-benders busy! Quite a bit of design went into these neat toys...I can picture dozens of ladies bending tabs on the a Louis Marx Assembly Line! The beautiful restoration is better than when the little truck fell into Jr's little hands!
What a fantastic project. Keeping the original colour. 👏👏👏 I also love that you go to your “scrapyard” to collect your next “fix-up” 😁
Excellent restoration. Original color. I like that you keep them original. Love your auto boneyard...and the sheep.
Amazing Work!
Chip, Excellent job thanks for sharing your video.!.!.!.
Love your restorations! Love the sounds of the kids playing in the background and the train horns!
awesome car, great work ! A lot of work went into this little beauty , it's beautiful, great Job!!!
Fantastic! Well done!
I like watching your restoration on chip channel
Thanks to bring my chilhood back again. 🙌🏼
This Chip channel episode will definitely; bring back the memory of when I use to work at the 350 Encinal Drive Goodwill industries, back then in late 1987 to mid 1988. This is where I used to work on a Graymark electronic project; that required a one-face PC board parts components assembly, which belonged to a toy tracer robot 🤖.
Very cool. What a simple and clever way of operating the light, too.
That box would have made a great spot for a little sheep 🐑 That spotlight was pretty nifty!
You are my favorite toy restoration channel. 1930’s design was brilliant. And your restoration is impeccable. Thank you for preserving these gems.
you get better and better. here's a big thumbs up on the resto
you put a lot of time 'n energy into this rehab, *chip* … and it shows … kudos to you, sir.
Another beautiful piece of work. God bless u and family.
The master craftsman at work. Truly, truly, a joy to watch every second of the video. It's like watching Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci at work.
Your sandblasting is far better than others on KZread that do the same thing. The paint and rust come off very clean.

This was well worth waiting for. Thanks Chip 🙂🛠🚗
love when you rebuild the parts
Very nice! Super cool upgrade on the axle as well.
Excellent restoration! The high-speed portions of the video really help move things along as well as adding a bit of comic relief! Thank you for producing these restoration videos for us.
Better than when first manufactured.
I love that the Heinz truck with the double battery clearly looks high powered in the lineup. lol
This would be so nice on a childs bedside table, I LOVE IT !!!!

WOW I have no words to describe this restoration. Truly amazing.
Absolutely frigging awesome!
Just beautiful, and not because it happens to be my favorite color!
That was a absolute gorgeous restoration great job
Beautiful restoration!
That body had some awesome patina! I would have left it alone
That truck is so beautiful! I came onto youtube to watch Renée Fleming singing, but got caught up in this master craftsman's work. So skillful, and the videos are beautifully done. I kept checking the time line, hoping it wasn't nearly finished... Thanks.
Great job, came back to life
Chip, This is fantastic.! As someone who restores old cars (currently working a 1948 Chevy truck) I can truly appreciate the time and level of detail involved. This must have taken you weeks to complete. The just shy of 30 minute video does not tell the whole story of the time involved. Now time for me to go to the garage and get my butt moving on my own project.
Seen lots and can’t wait to see more. You’re quite an crafty person.
Well Done. High Class restoration.
Excellent work
Well done. Gave new life to an old thing.
Very nice restoration. i appreciate rejuvenating and fabricating needed parts much more than purchasing replacements. Hat's off to you.
Excelent job. Congratulation.
Cyclops sheep will always be my favorite
Nickel playing machine...? Show-off! 😆. Great job sir.
I just love watching these . You do an amazing job saving these toys.
I like the wrap you used for making the battery period correct.
Brilliant work mate great great finish..
A brilliant job! Beautiful choices for paint, chrome, replacement parts, sandblasting and powder paint! Great technique and a beautiful finish! Super little truck!
It's one of your best restorations yet.Its good to see old toys brought back to enjoy again. Glad you kept the red color. My favorite.
I absolutely love this truck. Super job!
Another great job, you're fabrication is well done
Another very well done project! As stated before, your attention to detail and creative methods for replacement parts, such as the battery holder, are always a pleasure to watch! Thank you again my friend, very enjoyable!
That toy looks so good! Great job!!
Thank you I really enjoyed watching this
Fantastic.
Well Done 😍
That searchlight itself is a tiny work of art❤️
Your total attention to detail is nothing short of incredible. The replating of the nickel items, etc. is great. Thank You for what you do and for sharing with us.
The restoration is top notch. I love these old toys you are doing.
Nice '41 Marx. Fortunate to find a complete truck... Especially considering that, for the next 6 years, production was redirected to the war effort. US toy manufacturers built steel storage containers, mess kits, helmets ect.. during the war. Metal, rubber and plastic toy manufacture was prohibited from late 1941- early 1947. Only cardboard toys were produced during W.W. II.
I never get tired watching your restorations! Fascinating to watch and so satisfying once they're done! Thanks for saving these precious and amazing toys!
Awesome to see a Marx resto. Nice work!
Chip, another fascinating and satisfying redo of classic toys. These are gems that you bring back to life. Totally enjoy your channel! You are the best!
Finally, some who knows how to restore.
Beautiful job, as always 👍
