Probably much older, since production parts can be sitting in several processes. Think like the cutting and treating, to the ordering and production phases, that wood has a chance to have been around for more than 100 years.

When restoring anything never be afraid to just replace washers etc. Those things often get too brittle to use or even clean.

it has been a long time since KZread reccomended this channel to me. there are many good restoration channels to watch, but the attention to detail you show and how careful you are to preserve as much as possible, makes it seem like you really care about the result, not just about getting likes and subscriptions. I worked in a second hand shop for a few years, I had the pleasure of restoring some antiques. To me it isn't about the price something can be sold for, I feel like when something has been used and appreciated for many years, it has a value which has nothing to do with money. This is why when something old becomes worn, neglected or abused, it makes me sad, and if I am able to restore some of its dignity, I feel like the old tool/furniture/toy, etc, says "thank you". While there are many good restoration channels on KZread, some are very entertaining, some are interesting, it is very seldom that I watch a video on KZread and feel like something which isn't even alive is saying "thank you". So in case you don't get that feeling, everything you restore and most of the people watching are extremely grateful.

I dont think so. Almost every metal parts from this hammerdrill was hardening steel

Here is the real work of the restorer, without the hype transformations! This is still not a scientific restoration, but an excellent quality repair, that is, they returned the thing to working capacity and functionality! gracefully

As a beekeeper I’m here to tell you oxalic acid is used as a treatment for varroa mites. I don’t think I’d want to use it for cleaning. 🤣

You can just tell that whoever made this the first go around did a wonderful job and took pride in their craftsmanship because with how easily it was to restore

Beautiful restoration. Applause for getting those screws out, they easily could have broken or the slot strip out. I was amazed at the condition of the handle. Not even a chip out of it, considering what the tool was used for. I learnt something new from this video, that Rawlplug is proprietary name and company, not generic description of a building component, though it has become that.

I had trouble in the past with watching these kind of videos (mostly those about art and handcrafting), some were too perfect, so perfect that it seemed inhuman, the way they methodologically made everything with such perfection, precision and organization made me uneasy, it was like a robot. But you are not like that my man, I think you show the essential and the interesting of the process with a real human touch, I'm subscribing!

My guess is a salt and muriatic acid mix. It pulls rust of really fast. (Salt spears up the process, but you have to soak in Baking soda water after to remove it)

This is phosphoric acid. It slightly oily substance. Leaves surface of metal with grey protective film. If you not wash this film away and let it dry it will be rust protection by it own, overwise it ready for paint.

I’m impressed your light coloured top wasn’t completely covered in rusty fingerprints and dirt. No way I could be that clean even handling the old drill.

i was heartbroken to see the mechanism not unassembled.

3:30 They should have removable plastic/rubber teeth for vise grips so you don't have to tape it to not "bite" into the metal.

Dang, I never expected to see anyone actually using one of those wrench thingies... I have been seeing ads for them so fuckin often, and the acting in the ads is utter shit 😂 but the product itself is pretty neat. Tho I do wonder how durable the pins in it are...
