This 93 GMC Typhoon made in America shipped to Japan and then hauled back to America and stored for 17 years. A couple of things to do to get it on the street again. A fair amount of paperwork a few inspections along with replacing the fuel system, tank, and pump changing the brakes replacing the cooling system including the radiator, replacing the intercooler and heat exchanger Replace the transmission with a Gearstar 700 R, replacing the ECM and grab an original chip from Street machines, Charge the a/c to start.

Like the GMC Syclone, the Typhoon is powered by a 4.3 L LB4 V6 engine with unique pistons, main caps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, fuel system and exhaust manifolds, producing 280 hp (209 kW) and 360 lb⋅ft (475 N⋅m) of torque. The engine is a modified version of the Vortec engine found in the standard Jimmy, which originally produced 190 hp (142 kW).[2] The engine uses a Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8 cm2 turbocharger producing 14 psi (0.97 bar) of boost and a Garrett Water/Air intercooler, as well as revised intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds, and a 48 mm (2 in) twin-bore throttle body from the 5.7 L GM Small-Block engine.[3] The Typhoon sends power to all four wheels through a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner 4472 (the Syclone used a BorgWarner 1372)[citation needed] transfer case splitting torque with 35% forward and 65% to the rear wheels. Other features include upgraded brakes, a limited-slip rear differential and sport modifications to the standard suspensions. Unlike the Syclone, the Typhoon featured an air-operated self-leveling rear suspension.

Those little hose clamps you liked are designed for single use. Grainger # 2PU26 is a generic, stainless steel assortment that includes the pinch tool. If you search for vibration resistant pinch clamp kits, I’m sure you can find less expensive option.

The truck was a S-10, so the General put the moniker of Syclone as a turbo spin on the real twister of barometric calamity. The General offered the similarly equipped T-10 Blazer model aptly named the Typhoon for its turbo twist of the turbulent spinning atmospheric anomaly.

New wheels are a really good idea. Those old OEM castings are so bad they’re usually close to if not heavier than steelies, probably not round anymore if they ever were and a lot of them got a powdered metal “machined” surface under clear coat so they may or may not look worse than paint after trying to restore them. Good usually isn’t cheap.

You should build a Nascar Busch series V6 for it with a bigger turbo...gmpp has them... it can be built up to a 5.0

I making a cyclone ! I mean Syclone ! 4 wheel drive S-10 350 small block Chevy V-8 5 speed trans I got 3 Transfer case , Not quite sure which I'm going to try . 8.5 Rear end with Detroit Locker .

Hey Lucky. I have a 1992 Typhoon. Mine is Apple Red and Argent Grey. There is a ST/TY registry that we are trying to locate and document the Typhoons that are left. What is your truck # (the last 4 digits of the vin)? Also, you grill has black GMC letters...that is sort of rear. GM made PAS switch to red letters and only a few trucks came with black letters.

It’s no wonder you have to basically touch every part of this typhoon, sitting for years does them no good only harm! Is the typhoon yours lucky or are you just getting in some overtime for motorteend? 😂
So when will you be racing against Tony Angelo and his Syclone? The fact that you are both building these GM classics can’t be coincidental?
