It's almost camping season. This video is an unboxing and setup of the WEN model 56380i 3800 watt generator with inverter. These inverter generators are perfect for RV off-grid camping, boondocking, long-trip travel, off-grid cabins, emergency power outages, and more. In this video we do the oil fill, battery connection, test run, and test the generator under some basic loads (light, ceramic heater). I do a dBA test on the noise level of this quiet inverter generator, and do some comparisons between it and our Honda EU3000is.

    Just a public service announcement: to remove the battery just remove the side cover (2 screws) so you can access it from the back. Now you can also push the positive cable past the rubber air snorkel so you can pull the battery out all the way.

    My batteries needed to be replaced within 6 months and I thought they should have lasted at least a couple of years. I've replaced them twice. I set a reminder on my phone to charge them periodically and they last longer. It was very quiet at first, but slowly got louder. But I can deal with the noise as long as it produces the watts. My generator tends to walk across a smooth surface because of the vibration. I set it on an inclined driveway (about 10 degrees) one time and it flipped over so I built some wooden stabilizers for it. Overall, for the price, it's a good generator, and I would probably not hesitate buy another one.

    Super clean step by step guide/tutorial + review. Keep up the great videos. This is helping me purchase a generator for my new trailer. So I have a question. This would definitely work with RV's AC units correct? I know they pull a lot at the start. Wasn't sure.

  • @PurpleCollarLife

    @PurpleCollarLife

    Жыл бұрын

    Glad it helped! As far as for the RV's air conditioning, it depends on the size of the air conditioner and the rv's other power needs. Ours does power our air conditioner, which is I believe a 13,000 or 15,000 BTU. But in order to power the A/C, we need to make sure the refrigerator isn't currently running on electric and that we don't also run the microwave or other high-use electronics. It certainly wouldn't be powerful enough to power multiple A/C units, or larger units.

    Hello - thanks for writing! I think this particular WEN generator is pretty impressive. But for tent camping, I doubt you need 3800 Watts. I'd recommend getting a smaller, more lightweight, and quieter 1000 Watt generator. I see WEN currently has model 56125i inverter generator which is a 1250-Watt version for a good price. wenproducts.com/collections/inverter-generators/products/1250-watt-gas-powered-inverter-generator-carb-compliant And then there's also the always reliable and super-popular Honda EU1000i : powerequipment.honda.com/generators/models/eu1000i I think one of these would be great for tent camping. • @PurpleCollarLife

    @PurpleCollarLife

    Жыл бұрын

    I've always heard that it's best to store it with gas in it, and Stabil fuel treatment in it. I've heard you want to have the fuel tank at least 95% full to eliminate air space for condensation to accumulate. I also know it's important to make sure you're not storing it will fuel in the carburetor. I run all the gas out of the carb after shutting the fuel valve off. And I make sure to run the gas all out at least once a year to keep the fuel fresh and let the generator run at least annually.
