16. It's Late (Queen-Live In Montreal: 12/1/1978)

Музыка

Here's a gig that is considered a "classic" among Queen fans. This was requested by some people--so I must upload. I consider this to be one of the best gigs on the whole Jazz tour, and probably a top concert on the North American leg. The music performances are leaps and bounds above the ones on Dallas, and are at least on par with the New York and future 1978 gigs, so we are set for a great show. The quality is excellent, and it's complete! That's a bonus! Now, onto Freddie's voice, and notes...
The wear and tear on Freddie's voice is starting to become evident on this gig: His voice is starting to crack and break during random moments (not just on higher notes). He still puts in great performances, and still goes for a few of the higher notes here and there.
Note: This concert contains a blooper: During the Brighton Rock/Improv section, Roger decides to go into a random drum solo during Brian's guitar moment! Not such a great idea! Roger successfully takes over a good chunk of the section, and no one can follow him!
ENJOY!!!

I love the bluesy riff. Brian May used the "tapping" technique, that Eddie Van Halen has been credited for creating, 1 year before the first Van Halen album ever came out. Brian says he got the idea from a guitarist from Texas.

@@paulhudson563 Bicycle Race is a new song and a core part of the medley, and Dreamer's Ball is a new song and a good showcase piece for the band. While It's Late is better than those two songs imo, it wasn't a global single for the band, it's long and they had limited space on the LP, and Freddie doesn't exactly sing the song amazingly on the EU leg, which was probably why Somebody To Love was left off too.

The Jazz Tour has Freddie and the band doing back to back gigs for a whole year. In short, Freddie’s voice was botched. This gig is actually pretty good, for the standard of the Tour. No major cracks and pretty nice phrasings either way.
