Are you an experienced driver? Then you surely know that having a car is not easy. You have to deal with many little problems all the time: a scratch here, window crack there… You also have to watch out for the safety of your car.
Do you want to learn how to keep your coffee cup safe at speed? To make your life easier, we collected some tips that are useful for both beginners and professionals!

A road-trip with kids 8:46
SUMMARY
- After you find the perfect match, put some on the scratch. After the nail polish dries, just buff the scratch a little to make it smooth.
- To combat such cracks, use clear nail polish. Put 2 or 3 layers on the crack, and it will stop the crack from growing.
- The steering wheel is already too hot to touch! To avoid this, turn the steering wheel by 180 degrees when leaving the car. The part you use to drive will stay in the shadow.
- In order not to get blinded by the sun, take an acrylic sheet and put it on the windshield. Acrylic is easily attached to the windshield thanks to static electricity, and it protects your eyes from ultraviolet rays very well.
- If you've got a long road ahead of you and you are worried that you might get car sick, there is a fantastic solution! You may be surprised, but you just need to put a bay leaf under your tongue.
- Are you one of those people who doesn't know where to put their sunglasses in the car? There is just the place: put them on the sun visor. This way you'll make sure your glasses won't fall on a bumpy road.
- If you are feeling a bit drowsy when driving, put a piece of lemon under your tongue. This will wake you up very quickly. But still, we don't recommend you to drive when you are tired.
- This advice will come in handy to those who find that their cupholder isn't reliable enough. Put a little silicone cupcake case on the bottom of the cupholder. This way, your coffee cup will be secured inside, and all the little pieces of trash will be in the case.
- A tennis ball hanging in the garage can be a point which shows that a wall is near. The ball will help you to feel the car's size more easily, so you won't drive further than necessary.
- Heat the engine for 5-10 minutes, and cut the ignition off. Open the hood, and put a couple of oil drops onto a sheet of paper. Carefully take the sheet in a warm place and wait for 2 hours for the oil to dry.
- Put a drop of gas on a white sheet of paper, blow on it, and wait for the drop to evaporate. If the paper is perfectly white after the experiment, it means that you are using good-quality gas. If there is a greasy spot, it means there is some kerosene in the gas.
- Open a door and one of the front windows. Then open and close the door on the opposite side of the car. Do it a couple of times - this trick helps to cool down the car quickly, and it also gets rid of unpleasant smells easily.
- All you need is a pair of latex gloves. Put them on and rub your gloved hands against the carpet. It will create static electricity which in turn will help pet hair to resurface.
- When the windows in the car start fogging from the inside, you need to cut a potato in two parts. Then rub the potato on the windows from the inside and let them dry.
- Use a shower organizer to keep everything you need on the way, from diapers to bottles with water and some games. Just fix it to the seat in front of you and enjoy your organized ride!

I was smoking in the park one day and did not realize the cops uniform was blue...it looked green..so I got caught puffin...lol...but the point is...the sunglasses messed up my perspective on colors....it also, to me, didn't do shyt.. the sun still irritated my eyes at times.... Winter driving tip: When turning a corner on slippy, icey roads. Break about 10 to 15 metres prior to approaching the corner. Once you've slowed to a safe turning speed. Start to make the turn removing your foot off the breaks and steer the vehicle around the corner safely. Don't touch the gas until your turn is complete. This will keep the vehicle under control and greatly reduce the risk of skidding as you make the turn.

Tip 17 - use a good shampoo to avoid having your hair messed up by wind. Tip 18 - wash your teeth as the are critical when driving and can work as light reflectors in low-light situations. Tip 19- keep something to eat in your car. A hungry stomach is always a potential distraction. Tip 20 - use a good wax for your boots as its essential to let air flow smoothly around them when pushing the pedals. Tip 21 - have a laser guided missile launcher. Just in case a war breaks out, out of the blue. Tip 22 - using the right perfume can affect your attention and relaxation while driving. So be sure to be aware of what you are spraying. Tip 23 - look out for bugs in your car as the can be a distraction while driving.

In fairness the sun is ALWAYS in that annoying spot between the sun visor and the rear view mirror. Of course when I say "always" I actually mean "for a second or 2" (if your heading in the right direction, at the right time of day, at the right time of year, on 1 of the 2 days it's not cloudy/overcast in the UK).

Or like most scratches, it's only the clear coat that is damaged. A $15 trip to Walmart for some heavy grit car polish and a buff pad will enable you to get way better results then nail polish that will damage the paint more.

If the scratch or chip is all the way through the paint exposing bare metal, it could start to rust given enough time. That scratch you could barely see is now an eyesore. If you care about your car's appearance at all, spend ten or fifteen bucks and cover it.

If your windows are fogging there’s moisture which means you need to use heat on the windshield in the winter to warm it up or the recirculation in the summer while using ac to take the moisture out. If you still get fogging issues something isn’t working right or you need to just clean your windows with soap and water

Legitimately useful stuff. Oiling the rubber seals on the car may damage older (real) rubber, so it may be advised to use silicone lubricants instead, or replace the real rubber seals with alternatives, preferably made of nitrile, or if not that, neoprene. The potato trick might also work with shaving cream, as shaving cream prevents mirror fog in the humid conditions of the bathroom; condensation in a warm car on a winter day isn't any different.

Nice hacks, but: #15 If you got a cracked windshield, nothing than just a professional will fix that - no experiments, if you won't have glas in your eyes!!! #10 When you feel sleepy -> STOP DRIVING! No lemon, No coffee, no RedBull, no Cigarette - NOTHING will prevent you from falling asleep! I had my experience there by driving home 200mls after renovating a friends flat! Park somewhere and sleep 15-20min - that helps more! #8 Good idea, but try to lay a piece of wood on the ground. As the frontwheels will run onto it, you'll stop immediately... better than a hanging ball from the roof #7 Every car is built differently, but within the same kind of basic technology. On one you need to change the oil after 10k km, the other one after 15k km. Change the oil after the interval as the producer of your car is telling you to do, and you'll have it for a long time and a long mileage! #6 New to me here in Europe (Germany)! Every Gasoline Manufacturer mixes certain Adds to their gas (Shell, Aral, BP, Total, ...). It will grease your pistons and won't burn totally. That means, by burning it, a little substance will be left (what greases your pistons) -> if you got a clear burning, your pistons are not greased (instead of motor oil, what you hopefully control and change within the advised interval)... and that is BAD, because your engine is about to run hot. Otherwise, if you got unclear gas overseas ... boycott those gasstations! #2 Good god - potatos on the windshield! NOO! You just replace a foggy windshield to a greased windshield. As the sun strikes it, you'll have a wonderful rainbow on your windshield and you won't see anything like it's foggy! Heat the windshield up with either a heated windshield (upgradeable at some cars - got one in my Ford Focus) or by using your ventilation ... not good for nature, running your engine this time - but better for your life! #1 XD!!!!!! You can try to organize a ride with your kids ... you can set the basics for it, but once in the car, your kids will OWN your backseats, no matter how you organized them XD! Greetings from an experienced german driver *.*d!

#14 There is another term for this hack. It is call Dry Steering. It will knock a few years off your front tires as well as your steering system if you do it frequent enough. That is a questionable trade off for not having a hot steering wheel under the sun. Why not cover it up with a... well anything say a jacket or a towel or some heat isolation sheet?

@ your response to #8, that's not the point. The point of the tennis ball is for new drivers to learn the size and feel of the vehicle. So having a physical stopper defeats that purpose. You want them to be able to "sense" when to stop, not feel exactly when to stop.

Harzer Hamster A cracked windshield will never leave to glass in your eyes. For many, many decades, car windshield are made of "safety glass," which clings together in a solid sheet, even in the event it is completely smashed, like in the event of a car accident.

Never have I ever grabbed the steering wheel and thought that it was too hot, and if you have to parallel park in front of your house, then having your wheels turned to a side isn't really a good idea. And why would you waste your time and money finding nail polish when you can just go to a dealership, and get a small paint dispenser that matches your car exactly and is meant for scratches. Oh, and if you have to go out of your way to get acrylic sheets, then maybe you could put that effort towards finding something like, ooohhh, I dunno GLASSES???

It actually is a good idea to keep your wheel at an angle when in a parallel park. Because if your breaks were to give out mid park and if your wheel was slanted, your car would go to the side and hit the curb, opposed to rolling forwards or backwards and hitting another car.

To add to #10, if you're ever driving and cannot keep your eyes open any longer, a great trick up north is to, as long as it's cold outside, just roll down all of your windows! It's impossible to fall asleep while you're shivering! My mom taught me this trick and as someone who used to drive deliveries for really long hours sometimes, this one simple trick can literally be a life-saver! Save driving out there, guys and gals! :)

My dad taught me this. Blinded by headlamps coming at you? Don't look at them. Look instead at the kerb (or white lane line, yellow road side lines etc down to your left UK, right US etc) . This way the most sensitive part of your eye isn't being compromised by light, it's looking away (at the kerb). The bright light is now in the corner of your eye! You can track the road much easier. Of course, get your eyes back on the road as soon as the blinding light has gone.

To stop windows misting up just turn the de mist on... The hint is in the name... Or just open the windows. You can also just put a sock with cat litter in, an it will absorb the moisture. The advantage of all of these over a potato is that they all leave no smears over the windscreen.

  • @richard3365

I'm not sure where you're from, but where I am they call it "defrost", not "demist". Also, from my personal experience, until the engine is sufficiently warm (such as you've already been driving for about 10-15 minutes without it, normally idling for a minute or two isn't enough), it will only cause the windows to fog up worse when you turn it on. But yes... open the windows (even if it is cold) while you wait for the engine to warm up, and you'll be fine.

Neat little invention in cars of Today: a magic little thing called the Defroster/Demister control. It's a super-duper, terrific invention that ANYONE who has a car has access to. It's so coooool that a person can just move the switch or lever, or control and abra-cadabra.....no more fog or moisture on the window! WOW.....like magic! And the nicest part is that it's already installed on the car! OMG! Please write a letter to your congressman and automaker and let them know about the wonderful demister/defroster invention that is changing the World as we know it! Hey, somebody call Tony Stark and ask if he's the one that invented it. Whoah! What a concept! My mind is so officially blown at this invention.!!!! :-O (smh)

when turning your wheel to give it shade in the summer remember that you've done that before you go into reverse also if you're parked on the side of the road uphill or downhill make sure you're turning your wheels 180 degrees in the correct direction that they need to be.

A better solution for hot steering wheels is to use a front window shade, or put a towel over the steering wheel. Unless you don't know how to drive, you'll have to use the whole steering wheel when backing out of a parking space and it's going to be hot somewhere on the wheel unless you shade it somehow!
