Always Touch Your Car Before Pumping Gas

Ойын-сауық

If you spend only a day at the gas station, you can see just about everything. The “get every last drop in the tank” types, the nozzle tuggers, the nozzle ripper-offers! And possibly even a few near explosions! So today, we decided to spread the most common mistakes people make while fueling up!
For example, do you remember that thing about static electricity igniting invisible fuel vapors? Well, get this: when you get out of the car, your clothes sliding against the seat fabric creates some static charge. And when you grab that metallic nozzle, a spark can happen. That tiny spark can light up those gas vapors!

Not touching your car before pumping gas 4:20

Driving in circles 5:39
Not locking the car 6:10
Buying premium gas 6:40
Not knowing how to handle an emergency 7:20
SUMMARY:
- You can only pump gas into approved portable containers. You also can't fill them up inside your car or its trunk because static electricity can ignite fuel vapors. Always put the container on the ground.
- Don’t assume all pumps are accurate and in perfect working order. Equipment can go bad, and gas station workers might not notice it right away.
- Topping off your fuel tank can affect your car’s performance and could possibly damage the engine because of the built-up pressure.
- There’s this thing called card skimming - which is when an illegal reader is attached to a payment terminal. Anybody can walk up to the pump and put that thing on there!
- If your tires are underinflated, you don’t get as good gas mileage. Then you end up spending more because you have to fill up more often.
- To dispel any electric charge on you, just touch a metal part of your vehicle before you reach for the nozzle.
- Keep some hand sanitizer with you at all times, and use it as soon as you’re done filling up. Don’t wait until you’ve reached your destination because you’ll already have spread those germs all over your car, phone, and your face!
- Look at the dashboard and find the small arrow near the gas gauge. If it’s pointing left, the car’s tank is on the left.
- Even if you’re quick about grabbing your snack or paying for your gas, skilled thieves will already have “slid” into your car, grabbed anything valuable, and fled the scene with time to spare!
- Get premium only if your car requires high-octane gasoline.
- Let's say you place the nozzle inside the tank and suddenly see it’s caught on fire. First, don't remove the nozzle - just back away. Shut off the fuel at the pump using the emergency shut-off switch.

I'm guilty of #4. I've always done it in older cars and some newer ones. Never really had issues. One thing you forgot was watch for ones that stare at you as you pull up to the pump... those are people most likely going to bug you for money and distract you. Had this happen at one place, they tried to claim they need to get to a place 5 hours away and needed gas. Then claimed the pump wasn't working. I knew that was a lie as the truck stop usually has their pumps working all the time. Their pick up was full of gas already.

I'm guilty of number 4 too and before I got my 2019 Ford escape , I saw a video on KZread about the fuel system and these certain parts in the system will be damaged If you top off your tank and will cost you thousands of dollars in repairs , All of the newer vehicles have that special fuel system So when the nozzle kicks off , Do not top off , So check out some videos about the dangers of topping off your tank so you don't end up doing thousands of dollars in damage to your fuel system , Go on KZread and type in never top off your tank and the video will give you the details about the certain parts of the fuel system and how easily they can be damaged by topping off

I actually have some stuff in either guilty or I need to focus more. Things I need to focus when at a Gas Station. Number 1: Topping your tank for putting gas in your car. If the pump clicks, don't put more in or you will get a leak and still same gas out of your car down below. Number 2: Not touching your car before pumping. You might have some static electricity when you get off your seat and you dont wanna touch the pumper itself. If you don't, you might get some static electricity on the pumper, it might case a fire. (Which I need to focus in this one more....) Number 3: Not washing your hands after pumping gas from your car: You don't know how many germs are on the gas pumper itself. Someone might be sick or their cousins to be touching the pumper, and you might catch their virus or germs. So don't touch your face, inside car, and anything else that's yours. Always wash your hands after pumping your gas or keep some hand sanitizer by you! Number 4: Driving in circles: if you see a picture in your car that says gas tank is on right or left, remember to look at it. Always remember to Stay on the Bright Side of life! Thank you for those tips! :)

I totally feel you, man. In Taiwan, many local foods are just that: "boil some water and put something in it". Get a "box of rice with random things on top". Then there's "deep fried things", and finally "various kinds of dough cooked on a hot surface". Those are our four food groups. I grew up in USA. I want pizza, lasagna, sandwiches, etc. Nearly 24 years in Taiwan and my family has visited a few times. They always bring salt and pepper packets from USA restaurants or the airplane because Taiwanese food is "too boring".

The pump stops at 11 so am I just supposed to throw away 20+% of my car’s cruising range (nearly 90 mi) in a state where signs saying “Next services 90 mi” abound? Sorry but I’d rather actually reach my destination…

Thankfully 😅 here in New Jersey, we don’t have to deal with that, because we’re not allowed to pump our cars 🚘 .

In my country, a lot of gasoline/petrol containers as reserve are filled in 2,5 L soda bottles if they run out of gas/petrol in the middle of the road. Specially those who use a motorcycle. And of course, customers don't pump EVER.

Gas doesn’t expand, most common gas stations store there fuel underground and underground is always humid.

What about gas stations that are attendant-less so there is no one to assist you in an emergency?

Some great advice here but it’s all so USA -centric!! You do realise that the internet is global, right? In the country I’m in now there is no self-service pumps, the main problem here is they add water to the petrol (yes, all of us outside of the USA say petrol instead of gas) but how to know? That would be really helpful.

I think all the garages fiddle their pumps as I always look at the pump while filling up and notice the pump registers an amount before I can feel or see the fuel going into my tank. Once I picked up the petrol nozzle instead of diesel so I put it back and went to tell the cashier and he told me I had to pay 30 pence and I said but no fuel came out !!!!!
