Stop Using Your Phone When Pumping Gas
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The average person spends about 4 hours a day on their phone. That means in a single week, our eyes are glued to the screen for over an entire day! While there’s nothing wrong with a little screen time every now and then, there are some places where your phone should stay in your pocket…
Have you ever been texting your friends as you got in the car and forgot you left your coffee on the roof? Imagine something like that, and you might have an idea why so many gas stations have signs up warning customers to stay off their phones as they’re pumping gas. Also, some people believe the device can shoot out radio waves or sparks and catch the gas on fire? Let's find out if that's true!

SUMMARY:
- They put these signs up to keep distracted drivers from pulling away from the pump with the nozzle still attached! When that happens, you risk gas leaking out all over the place, and then there’s the chance of it lighting up.
- Fortunately, this isn’t as much of a threat as it perhaps used to be. Most modern gas pumps feature breakaway nozzles that will seal the pump if they’re pulled on too hard. ]
- Either way, the driver, or at least their insurance company, is still responsible for any equipment they break. If the driver’s lucky, they’ll only need to pay for the breakaway mechanism to be replaced.
- Most airlines require you to switch your phone to airplane mode. The signals produced by wireless devices can interfere with the plane’s electronics.
- This phone interference isn’t too much of a problem anymore thanks to modern technology, but it was a major concern in the 1990s.
- Devices from that era were notorious for their ability to interfere with nearby electronics, and that was a risk airlines weren’t willing to take.
- There’s also the issue of radio waves interfering with a plane’s communications. Again, it’s nothing too dramatic.
- The third reason why you’re asked to turn off your phone on the plane has to do with your wireless carrier.
- Cell towers were designed around some basic assumption about where their users are going to be located. Thousands of feet in the air close to the speed of sound was not one of them.
- The good news is, these risks are all fairly remote, and there’s never been a major accident caused by someone using their phone on a plane.
- Studies have shown that electronic devices can tamper with some of the more sensitive hospital equipment.
- The scientists concluded that 3 ft was far enough away to be safe. Although, they do recommend keeping mobile phones out of the room entirely just to be on the super safe side!

Ty for sharing
The gasoline explosion scare started by an incompetent old fire chief from Fishkill NY in the 90's , he made the claim locally and then CBS picked it up and it went viral (although inaccurate) . You left out on item about the aircraft , its also the fact that you are flying at high altitudes and over a wide area of cell-sites . You can't actually bring up more than one at a time but you can interfere with dozens or hundreds if they are on your frequency and tie up many as they try to connect .
Hi bright side a morning I saw a distracted driver on his phone pulling away from the gas station a gas attendant was shouting hi you forgot to srew on the gas cap and close their door and he couldn't hear hr

Brightsides next video: *_Never Use your phone during the day!_*
Altimeters use air pressure to measure altitude. That's why most metropolitan areas have an automated weather broadcast that includes pressure setting so all the planes are compensating the same amount for the constantly changing barometric pressure. That flight simulator should be modeling that adjustment and implementation might vary depending on which airplane it's simulating. A little RF from a wireless, WiFi or Bluetooth connection should have no effect. Radio based instrumentation like the transponder, weather radar and navigation instruments might be more vulnerable.
I used my phone in a hospital room at least once when I had a small problem with my eye. Thanks for the warning.
I'm confessing that I almost used meh phone at a gas station while our car was being filled up with gas, cuz when I pulled my phone out my lil sis said don't use it bc she said that it might cause dangerous things :P
I think it's a myth?
I knew it. I commute publicly and i surf a lot even when the taxi driver refuels. Im from the Philippines. 🙂

Bruh we just turned to don’t use you phone while pumping gas to turn your phone into airplane mode before takeoff I kinda like it
So good..
Bright side explain things in very rightly
Most school zones also prohibit cell phone use when driving through them as a precaution.
This topic was discussed on the TV show Mythbusters some time ago. It was deemed "Busted" as there was little to no risk...
more chance of winning the lottery especially considering the gas fumes are outside being influenced by the air movement and all the air around you need a specific mixture of gas fumes and oxygen to support combustion difficult enough in a confined space
They started taking away the little lever that keeps the nozzle on for you. That way you can't take your hand off the gas nozzle and don't ever forget to take it out
Wow its very usefull for me
Thx for telling people who text next to a gasoline station
Cool video this is only what I need to say cause I form watch the whole video 😂😂😂😂😂
I love this channel sooo much. He just tells straight facts but keeps it interesting at the same time. Keep doing what your doing 👍👍👍👍

"It might be nice to have a little break from it!" Clicks on next video on phone
You know what I think I forgot to take out the hose while pumping gas.🤭 I should go outside to see if my car has a tail 🤔
I was told by a flight attendant that phones don't interfere with the mechanisms of the airplane it's just very annoying for the pilot because they receive the radiowaves and hear and almost from everything like notifs if a person is using any social media.
2007...Yes. Cellphones affect our hospital devices. Coz back then, all mobile pionds have analog signals. Nowadays, cellphones does not affect our medical devices. In fact, medical devices and walls affects the cellphones signal. The only reason we keep the " No Cellphones Sign" is because we don't want patients disturb.👍
Why do you have only 31m subs??!! You should have 100m!!!🥊
3:08 that’s the plane flashlight
BRIGHT SIDE: An average person spends about 4 hours a day on their phones. Me: 24/7 hours. No questions.
I dont think anyone,s gonna stop texting at the gas station any time soon, while drivers cant keep their hands away from their phones, even while driving.
5:51 that plane is so strong lol
Can u make a video why cars have more space behind and infront of them when they stop or theres traffic?
I still remember every time we were at a gas station our bus driver said to not use your phone when pumping gasoline looking at the highschoolers so incase it would explode we would always go outside the bus LOL
There is an episode of "Mythbusters" that disproved the theory about using a mobile phone while in the gas station can ignite gasoline vapors. They concluded that STATIC ELECTRICTY is to blame (and cellphones are in the clear). The notion of "airplane mode" is a generally accepted thing for airplane passengers. This is because the radio navigation equipment in the aircraft operates at the same frequency as mobile phones.
What's really terrifying about this is how infrequently these people must check their mirrors. Clearly they're driving around oblivious.
u posted this on my bday
Does sitting in the car while your friend is doing the work for you count?!! 😂😂🤣
The part when he said, “Nose-picking” cracked me up...

in my town there’s this thing where the gas person pumps your car while you are still in it. you don’t need to pump the gas on your own, the gas person will do it for you.
@Aero_yushi

same and the gas station still has that sign
IT'S funny coz i just seen one last week. A lady wasn't paying attention n drove off with the pump still attached to it n it broke off. i guess it was the new safety thing u mentioned. :)i wasn't paying attention if she was on the phone before it happened :)
2:10 And how much does the driver have to pay if it ends up starting a fire and blows up the entire gas station GTA style? :3 8:32 What was the mother doing in her spare time? . . . XD
WOW,I did not no that.
i used it on all of those places. 1. When my dad was pumping gas i distracted him with a funny vid and we watched it while he was pumping gas 2. When i was on plane i watched youtube and called people. 3. in hospital when i had a surgery i was near those sensitive ddevices and like 1 feet away and called my granny
Can you make a video on spiritual meditation
I don't know if me and my friends can go 5 minutes without our phones😂😂Well we can atleast try
Well I already know that but my brother said you can use it inside the car but not outside is that right?
I was taking a picture of a really nice Audi R8 at a gas station before and through the intercom the cashier said “Boy in the White shirt (me) please put your phone away” or something like that and it was embarrassing
Yes
Me who is watching this video while fueling my car me: huh
@bright side How bout few videos showing cars exploded at gas station. What are the explanation ? Please..
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve only been told to turn on air plane mode but you can turn it off at 1000 feet 2:58
Did you steal the music at 7 min from the donut channel? I still love your channel just asking
I cannot let go of it for a second!
This guy is the voice of how it works
How does pumping fuel work in the United States? Do y'all pay first, or pay after? I'm asking this, coz in South Africa. We pay AFTER they have poured the fuel AND taken out that item. If ever I drive away with that thing, it's the gas attendant's fault. Coz why would he or she let me pay, when he hasn't taken it out???
0:33 in the movie "Twister" they left the drinks on the car roof
Hi🙂😁 Have a great evening 😊😊
