7 Main Tips for New Drivers from Professionals
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
If you have ever struggled with parking or are not sure that everything in your car is set up correctly, this video is exactly what you need. You will be amazed at how easy it is if you know what to aim. These simple step-by-step instructions can be equally useful for experienced and new drivers and we wish we knew them when we were taking our driving test.
We're gonna start with the easy stuff. The things you probably take for granted or just fallen into the habit of forgetting to do if you’ve been driving for a while.

SUMMARY:
- You want to adjust the height of the seat so that you can see the dash panel and the road clearly. If you happen to be a bit on the shorter side and can’t see over the dash even after doing everything the seat will allow, get a cushion or wedge to sit on.
- Once your seat is adjusted, lean left and get as close to the side window as you can. Then adjust the mirror until you can see the rear fender. Once you’re sitting correctly, you should just barely see the side of the back bumper.
- Make sure you can clearly see all the instruments on the dash and have at least a foot (30 cm) of space between it and your body. Your hands should be slightly lower than your shoulders and placed on the wheel at 9 and 3.
- You’ll need this trick whenever you pull into a parking lot and the spots are kinda slanted, hence the whole 45° thing. First, make sure you’re going down the aisle the right way! The spots should be slanted down toward you, not away from you. Next, move to your left as far as you can. Keep moving until your right side-view mirror is lined up with the left taillight of the car on your right-hand side.
- The next level up from that is perpendicular parking. Start off by getting as far to the left as you can. Watch out for incoming cars first! The further you are to your left, the easier it’s going to be.
- Locate the spot you’re going to back into and drive 2 spots past it. Then, and this is crucial, make sure drivers around you know what you’re about to do. Flip on your blinker, and before going into reverse, make sure to look out for oncoming vehicles from the front and approaching ones from behind.
- Parallel parking. First thing’s first: make sure the spot you want to park in is one your car will fit into. You want no less than one and a half times the length of the car. Drive forward until your car is next to the one in front of the parking spot.

I've always loved the challenge of parallel parking! But it's really a skill that comes with experience. I never thought it was fair to insist kids doing their driving test should be required to know how to parellel park because it takes time to develop that skill.

Love the parallel parking section, nice and simple for my kid to understand as he learns to drive, thanks guys!
I'm one of those that will drive a mile just to parallel park. I practiced it in my yard with my mom and dads cars. When I went to take my test I passed it with flying colors.
Thank you, BRIGHT SIDE. This is rather helpful. I'll keep this in mind when I do parking before my test. Although, I do have one question: why would anyone back in a parking space? It seems superfluous.
Maybe it works for some people but personally it's better to learn from practice and feel rather than relying on reference points that will change from car to car and one situation to the next. Just carry out the best observations you can and move at the slowest speed. You can change the angle of the car a lot if you go really slow
Ur tips help me, I just starting my lesson. Thanks

To steer the car in reverse, turn the wheel in the direction you want the rear of the car to go. *Turning the wheel to the right steers the back of the car to the right. Turning the wheel to the left steers to the left.*

Thanks you for this great video it's been 👌👍 really helpful 👍😊 just one thing I'm learning to drive I just wanted to know we're can I take my theory test I live in Purley.
Thanks for your kind information regarding Driving
I'm definitely in camp backing in. Its easier (and safer) to leave the spot nose first. An easier way to do it is approach the spot as close as you can and when you're sitting directly in front of it turn the wheel hard until you're at a 45 degree angle to the spot, that way you actually see it in your side mirror. Even better if you have enough room to do it is to start turning earlier and just go until you're lined straight with the spot.
Thanks bro... i enjoyed seeing this tips
Not sure there was something I hated to learn to do, but there was things I wasn't happy doing. And that was to start again, from a red light. Some road crosses are on a slightly tilted ground in Denmark. So I often were rolling backwards a bit before I got the car driving. I was so afraid of rolling back down in to the one behind me. I learned the parking box thing pretty well. And I make sure that I am never in too much of a hurry to straight the car up after a parking. Backing far enough out, to see the markings on the ground for the chosen spot out of my windshield
@mrj4082
Жыл бұрын
I think I basically know everything but when I was still learning I should've payed more attention to parallel parking and asked the instructor that I do it more often cos we only did it like 2-3 times
I just got my driver's license last year and I was taught in driving school the 10-2 hand positioning. I'm changing to 9-3 now.
Thank you bro.... It's useful tips only....🤩🤩🤩

I have just completed my driving classes but yet to master this skill of parallel parking. Here in India the classes were only for 12 days with 1 hour each day. May be I require some more time for this. But I just want to keep on driving. I am very much excited to drive and keen about when I will go driving again even though I practice every day. The most dreadful thing is when someone overtakes me and goes driving in front of me immediately requiring me to slow down a bit.

Another great one. Not doubting you but, I have failed the test as well and have reread the book in my state. My state's book still says 10 and 2 o'clock when behind the wheel. Guess the writer doesn't have an airbag🤔.
@Minecraftmaster44
4 жыл бұрын
Actually, 9 and 3 gives you better position if the airbag pops out as it'll push your arms away. 10 and 2 will result in the airbag hitting your arms.
@joshuaquick5511
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what I was implying when I said that. None of mine have driver side airbags but, have passenger side so I normally do either 10 and 2 or 9 and 3. Writer of our state's book must primarily drive older models like mine without airbag on driver side.
Great tips, but the background music makes it so distracting to understand.
Awesome Video!
very clearly, thank you !
Great tip want to learn how to park? Go to a park nearby preferable at night or morning when there aren't many poeple or cars around and practice parking into the slots untill you get the hang of it. That is what I did and now I drive and park where ever I want to. (My dad sometimes says "it's too tight for you to park there" and next thing you notice I'm in the parking slot. Practice makes perfect. I started driving at 16 now I'm 20 And I dont know how I eneded up here lol. Just remember practice and practice so you wont get stuck in reality.

This video was so much informative ,could you please make a Video on "Uphill and down hill driving "?
4:45 . After experience I say this. If you are parking into perpendicular parking, I recommend only parking on your left. Use the same mirror rule (aka when your left mirror is lined up with the first line of the parking you want, fully turn and slowly move in). Since your car is on the right side of the road, you have more space to safely go into the parking spot without the risk of hitting the further most car. Additionally, you probably won't have to reverse and adjust. If you have to park on the right side, I would wait till traffic is clear, adjust your vehicle so your car is on the left side of the road, and then turn right into the parking spot using the mirror rule. After parking in parking garages and normal lots almost daily for university and work, I can say this confidently. It's never worth clipping your car or the pressure that comes with it. Be patient and safe. Hope this helps any new drivers or drivers who didn't really know this.
I had the parallel park on my test, and I passed, but am nervous doing it by myself lol.
Nice video, I found it works best when you watch it as you drive.
