Are you tired of the cutting plates for your die cutting and embossing machine being warped? It's so frustrating when you're trying to lay a die or embossing folder on your plates and they won't lay flat because they're curved and warped from so much use. Today I'll share a card making hack for keeping your cutting plates FLAT for good. I've been using this trick for years, my plates show a ton of use, and they're still nice and flat.
What's you need to do is start with a new set of cutting plates and label one for the top and one for the bottom. Your bottom plate will be the one that gets cut into, and the top one will stay nice and clean. By only cutting into the bottom plate, both plates will stay nice and flat.

    That bottom plate has seen a LOT of cardstock! I solved the top or bottom issue by purchasing pink glitter plates. The "clear" goes on the bottom, and the "pink glitter" goes on the top. When the current "set" gets too bad to use, I have the other "set" waiting in the wings.

    Hello Anna. I got my cutting machine on Friday and I’m so excited. I wanted to rewatch this video to make sure I remembered the right way to use my cutting plates so they didn’t warp. Looking forward to your class on Monday night

    I just flip the side of the acrylic plate every other time it goes into the roller. Never warped for me after the first time.

    Im new to using a die machine.. I am following directions carefully but each time I use the machine the die actually cuts very deep outlines into the plate…my finger nail sinks into the cuts.. Can you tell me what I need to do please as I cant use it now for fear of ruining the plate completely. Thanks

    I believe you could add more thing to your heating technique. That is putting a weight on top of your plate that helps a lot with flattening. I use heavy ceramic bread dishes. You can also try putting enough water to cover the plates.

    Hi can I please ask, how do I stop the imprints from the plate going onto and imprinting on my card when I am trying to make greeting cards? It is like when I have used the die to cut the shape out, the plate also embosses into all of the card too. I am wasting so so much card.

    Hi Audria, do you keep one plate as your top plate that never gets cut into? Doing this, the plates only make lines on the back side of a die cut, so it will be hidden in most cases. Here's a video that explains. I do this to prevent warped plates, but it helps with your problem too. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJyKlJmgf7C4qrw.html If needed, you can put copy or wax paper between the paper and plate to prevent lines.

    I have a slightly different problem, where I've rolled my Cutting plates slightly off course a few times and the edges started getting ground at and became sharp any suggestions on how to fix this? I had considered sanding the edges but was unsure if it would damage the plates further. Thanks in advance for any help

    I have the newer Stampin up cut and emboss, the problem I'm having is my top plate is warping and getting impressions from the non cutting side of dies. I only use the one plate for cutting and the top is always the top, it dud have a couple cuts from my grandson using it but it was only like cut into 3 times for little things I let him cut. Why am I getting these expressions in my top plate and it warping, never had a problem like that with big shot.

    Is your machine fairly new? Mine did that a lot until it got broken in. You'll want to flip your top plate as well to reverse the warping.

    @@handmakewithlove I got it when it first came out, after it was doing that I stopped using it for die cutting and only used for embossing til I lost the little screw for the handle of my big shot, switched back to Stampin cut n emboss again two months ago bought new plates thinking maybe it was a defect but those plates are doing it too, glad to know I'm not the only person this happen to, was wondering what I was doing wrong. I'll keep flipping them over and switching what way they go in (3 first in or at end). I'll hold off on getting new plates for awhile til it feels wore in, still really tight but I don't do that much a few passes a day, make 1 or 2 cards a day. Thank you for getting back to me.

    But, what causes it to warp? Mine just warped like nuts in one go, really huge curve in it

  • @handmakewithlove

    @handmakewithlove

    The pressure from the rollers I believe, and also the fact that's its an uneven 'sandwich' where the dies lay

  • @davidrutledge3240

    @davidrutledge3240

    2 жыл бұрын

    Pretty much what she said, but also it's just a tendency of putting anything through rollers, which, iirc also involves some craziness with material properties and now friction is never perfectly balanced and the pressure can never be perfectly orthogonal (90 degrees) to the surface. But yeah, that's how they put curves in stuff like plate steel.

    Do you make sure to flip them? You always want the gap in the center, not the ends before you run it through. That way it should straighten itself back out with the pressure from the machine.
