Trust me everyone - I followed this advice from a previous video - and bingo, it works!
GREAT TIPS. THANK YOU. I saw a video that shows using bubble wrap envelopes. You cut the bubble wrap to the size needed. (1) Lay down the bubble wrap, bubble side up. (2) Lay the cardstock on top of the bubble wrap. ( 3) Lay the die on top of the cardstock. . Layer cutting plates how you would normally. This cuts beautifully. (Now I keep my used bubble envelopes instead of throwing them away.) It also worked beautifully.
By far 🎉 one of the most comprehensive and easy to understand and follow videos on intricate dies. Well done and thank you!!!!!!
Never have I seen such a good video packed with info about all you need to know about one topic. Well done! I hope you get lots of views 🥰👍🏻
Yes! Now I know why some cardstock does not work for die cuts! Thank you Lou for the wonderful explanation!
Years ago we were encouraged to put wax paper between the die and cardstock. Possibly to make it easier to get all the bits out, I can't remember. Thank you for the comprehensive tutorial. So nice to be talked to without being patronised 😊
Happy New Year Lou, another tip is to wipe a solid bar of soap across the die, it helps release the die :)
Good tips - I always have my dies face up as this was the recommended method when I got my first Big Shot machine., I also take the dies through at their narrowest way round and often at an angle too - I still have dies that give problems. I have realised that some cardstock is more resistant than others. When a newbie at die cutting, I got waxed paper for using with dies, to help with removal - and used it all the time, but now I don't do die-cutting as much, due to only having a big shot plus in working order and it's heavy awkwardness at getting down & back up to its shelf, and have lost the habit of remembering the wax paper, for those intricate dies!
What FABULOUS tips you’ve shared. I’ve been card crafting with dies for YEARS and have never seen most of your tips. THANK YOU SOOOO much❣️I’m going to pull all those forgotten intricate dies back out and show them the love I had when I bought them!🤩❤😍
I've been papercrafting for almost 30 yrs (😮) and thought I knew all the tricks for diecutting. And I do, but yours are next level! I will be incorporating these. Thank you, also, for the clear explanations and the science 😊

I’ve been die cutting for years and didn’t know about the fibres, it makes perfect sense. Thank you, proves you can teach an old dog new tricks 😉
Really clear and concise. Thank you. You are so skilled as a KZread presenter...
Well who’d have thought, brilliant advice.❤
Excellent tips!
I am currently waiting for my sidekick replacement machine, but a friend shared this with me & I am saving this to try when it arrives, because I also have die issues like so. Your video has now given me an extra reason to anxiously await my machine😅 hope it works Thank you for sharing this🌻
Fabulous! I noticed that my new fold away big shot actually says to put the card on top of the die instead of the way we have been doing it. I didn’t like that at first because it meant that sometimes I needed to tape it in place and then turn it over but knowing why helps! Maybe they have watched your videos?! Thank you! 💕
Very helpful tips. I’m so happy you are doing these videos.
Simple - but it works. More videos like this pls

Wonderful tips. Thank you so much! I have definitely had a problem with some dies and thought it was my machine or the die. Now I know what to do. ❤
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you take us all through these helpful and useful tips. I’m going to put this into practice with my intricate dies. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your crafty knowledge with us. I knew the tip but your explanation as to why we should put blade up made it make sense. I didn’t know about the types of paper could be the reason why dies didn’t cut through.❤
Thank you so much! I do have dies that I wanted to use so very badly but could never get clean cuts so like you said, I set them aside & just avoided using them. I can’t wait to try these tips on them & use my dies again!!
I often use very intricate dies (Diesire) and will hav issues with a clean cut. This was very informative and helpful
Great tips Lou. I do have some dies that I not only avoid but have put into my giveaway pile. I’m going to rescue them and give these tips a trial. Thank you so much.😊
Thank you so much for the great information! I've had so much angst with the ghosting that I've almost entirely given up on die cutting. I'll try using textured paper and see how much love I can give to my intricate dies!
Thanks so much Lou as a newbie I replaced my die cutting machine and plates to no avail. Bought the big shot plus and it was no better...now I know why! Even bought an intricate die metal plate! Can't wait to use my gorgeous intricate dies now! Happy New year hunni xx
SO very helpful, Thank You!! There are definitely certain papers that are a near to cut! Any more tips on distinguishing different types of paper for specific uses like this would be immensely helpful! I never get past the colors enough to look at the rest of the qualities !! 🧑🏼🎨😀💗
Great tips😍💜🧚♀️😘
I also like using the weeding tool from Sisk that rolls over the card stock to get all the nibs out
❤l thought it was because my old Big Shot was worn out but find it still happens with electronic machines so I found your explanation and demo very informative, Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! So very helpful. I love those intricate dies but have struggled with getting clean cuts. Looking forward to trying out all these techniques! By the way, M2S’s desk vacuum is perfect vacuuming up those little bits of paper stuck on cutting plates when using intricate dies!
Great video Lou..I wasn’t aware that the paper could be the problem…other than glitter card I know is a problem sometimes. I given up on that!
So true, it works every time…….
I wish I had seen this video long before Christmas, when I was die cutting 120 intricate Poinsettia die cuts. I made so many mistakes, and ruined so much card stock, not to mention, tearing my hair out, (and I haven’t got that much to tear out). I have a Big Shot, and a small cutting machine, and a new Gemini electric, which I purchased three months ago and I’m too afraid to use it, how stupid is that? Anyway, I did eventually achieve the desired number, but it was a real labour of love. Thank you so much for this wonderful video, you are a real expert and a brilliant trainer in the art of card making tips.
Aaaack! This is sooo helpful, thank you! I've gotten rid of so many intricate dies because I got tired of fiddling with them, I thought it was the dies. Your tips would have helped for sure. So if I had known, (sigh...). Time to go buy a couple of intricate dies and see the magic happen! Or at least not be afraid to buy an intricate die I would like, when I see one. Any tips for using wax paper or freezer paper to release all those tiny pieces? Thank you again, so much!
I usually get my awkward dies to work better by having the die facing up too
I sometimes have trouble getting the carsstock then out of the die in one piece. Are there tips for that aswell? These tips were great, thanks Lou!
I’ve used the cardboard from cereal box for shims(s) and I’ve used cereal containers Inside the box between the diecut and the paper
THANKYOU. I'm old school and always have dies face up never had a problem. Your education helps me realize why. I was wondering if it would be safe to put cuttung plates in the dishwasher? Also, can I share this link with others?

Yes, you may share the link with others :) As for the cutting plates, I'm not so sure if it's okay to put them in the dishwasher.
HELP, One thing though, sometimes I get fine slithers of paper around the cuts, especially when I run the die through twice? Any tips for this? I normally have a tooth brush that I use to brush these away, but they seem to be really fine? Great tip today! I’ve been doing this for a while now and you’re spot on! It’s frustrating, but when you know how it becomes more enjoyable crafting! Thanks heaps Lou xx

Tape your die in place, the second pass the die is moving a tiny fraction, hence the slivers
I don't always know what it is when I'm done.
