I'm a digital court reporter. Lots of digital court reporters also transcribe. Also it's not just remote. Many of us work in the courtroom and I believe more digital reporters do court work than remote. Also, most companies will not hire if you don't have some type of training and also become certififed through the AAERT. I took the course through my local college and certification is done through the AAERT and you have to renew it every three years. The course was rigorous but really well worth it. Just wanted to add that in there. Excellent video.

Do you make much money? My mom has done this for 20 years and my sister and I help her remotely. I don't even think it amounts to more than a few bucks an hour between us after the transcribing, listening back, other proofreading, and printing and assembling to mail off the hard copies (which the court ALWAYS requires). The most you can charge in her area is about $5 a page. I consider it soul-destroying work, mostly because of the pay.

I used to be a traditional court reporter years ago. Is that something that would qualify as training or experience? I never considered being a digital court reporter but it is definitely something I am interested in looking into now. Thanks @sidehustleseattle for the great info! You do need to be certified to be a Digital Court Reporter. I went to The Court Reporting Academy. Totally online via zoom!

Thank you. I am starting my notary business this month in Texas. This helps a lot. I am afraid of RON but it is real and alive so I need to get over it and jump in.😂

I was a LSA before Covid, and I’m now getting back into it. I’m going to add: IPEN, as well as, hopefully, Field Inspections, Proctoring, Remote Testimony Witness, if anyone has advice on how to do so in California, I’d love to hear about it please!

FYI: I'm a certified voice captioner. My training began on a stenograph. A steno had 22 keys so it is totally possible to "write" (type) 220 wpm with training. It's impossible to type 220 wpm on a qwerty no matter how you're trained. LOL 😉

True!!! Highest I’ve hit was 110 wpm on QWERTY and Lordt the mistakes! Lol 😅
