Dude I’ve never teared up during a car review video before. James you really deserve a lot of credit and respect for opening yourself up like that. I’ve always enjoyed your videos and all of that but now I know how genuine of a person you are and that you are willing to pour your heart out for us which is definite PROOF that you love your fans. Much much respect! Also your dad is clearly an absolute legend and we are all thankful that his bond level driving, piloting an e28, is why we are able to enjoy your videos today.

James, the story about your dad really hit close to home. My boyfriend has the same exact e28, same year, same model, same COLOR, and ours also saved a life--a few years back he was able to race his hemorrhaging friend to the hospital, just in time. It's a really special car.

we are used to hear james joke about his dad leaving him, but this time caught me of guard that story make me drop a tear.

@@StaelTek I heard the same thing, and though the tires "never hitting the road" was a crash. I get it now though. The part where he said he was in a hospital with an asthma attack made it seem like his Dad was trying to see him at the hospital.

People have been asking for an “up to speed” on his Dad. Little did we know, we’d get this bombshell.

Oh, shit! I was caught off guard by his family's story about him and his dad. I had to review that part several times and it teared me up. I blitz through these videos so fast normally, but I have to stop and say thank you for sharing that story so honestly with us! Respect to you, to your dad and to the BMW of those days!

Hands down favorite episode, glad your still with us James.

Had to rewatch, best D-List yet! When I was young my mom made a similar run in our Skylark and I spent Thanksgiving in an oxygen tent. You got me in the feels bro❤️

The E46 M3 - likely my favorite car of all time. Loved it so much I bought two of them. I also have an E30 325 that is a ton of fun to drive.

Totally thought that bmw story was going to be a joke about his dad leaving him, then it turned out to be heart warming.

I think all of us in the Bimmer gang have a very personal reason to love these machines, but damn James has such a sad and amazing story because he almost lost his life but he DIDN'T because of a BMW, absolutely beautiful.

A friend of my dads has had a 3.0 csl for about 30 years now, he rarely takes it out, but when i finally seen it i was in awe, i didnt know what it was but i knew it was one of the prettiest cars ive seen in my life

When Jeremy clarkson was filming the top gear Patagonia special he told a story of how he was able to see his dad for the last time before he passed away, and he was able to do that because he drove a Porsche 928. Jeremy’s story is just like James’s story 🙂

He’s so passionate about cars, one car literally saved his life... and it’s not number one on his list. I wouldn’t have blamed him for putting it at number one, it was a good story and super touching. To me that car is number one.

We had the collectors edition E30 325is in South Africa which had a 2.7L straight 6 that shared suspension with the original M3 .This car was a group N track performer .It was our M3 since we never got the original E30 M3.

E34 is just iconic car - several years ago, a friend of mine drove one on the highway with the odometer reversed (the arrow had already turned backwards). And it wasn't felt at all, we were riding so comfortably with around 280 km/h (I don't know exactly how much because of the already rolled mileage).

Your awesome James . the passion and love in these videos always makes me happy . I love how genuine you are .

Came for the silly car list, stayed for the wholesome childhood story.

Man James, I love this show just for the entertainment and great info but that story about having bad asthma really hit home with me. When I was a kid I had really bad asthma too and had some bad scares with asthma attacks too. Thank God we both made it through it!

James’s story reminds me on Jeremy Clarkson’s. Jeremy lived in London. He got a call from his mother saying his father, who was desperately ill, was likely in his final moment’s. Jeremy had made a roast chicken for dinner and he’d figured he’d bring his mother some because she wouldn’t have eaten. He was testing a 928 that week for the magazine he worked for, he threw the chicken in and had a 3 and a half hour journey ahead of him. He’d arrived fast enough that the chicken was still warm and his father was still alive. That reminded me of this story. Both made me cry...

its special but its crap.....the e60 interior has so much plastic in it the merc eclass was alot better.... also the s85 was a crap pile of an engine....its a money pit to maintain. and the mercedes v8 had a ton more torque and slightly more hrspw...... and it was more reliable than the v10......if you want a v10 sedan get the audi with the lambo block...

It doesn't deserve to be in this list, its just awful.only good think about it is the gorgeous sound it makes, and probably its looks. The rest of the car is just trash. S85 is one of the worst motors ever created,uses more oil than fuel,timing chain needs to be replaced every few thousand miles, cheap interior, shitty gearbox etc.

@@pearl571 Seem highly biased of a Merc fan, i mean you do have W124 in your name. The S85 won many engine of the year award. And it super easy to maintain if you know what to buy. All you have to do is upgrade the throttle actuators and rod bearings one time. Use the proper 10 quarts of 10W-60 Castrol oil. And buy an E60 M5 with a manual 6 speed trans and your good to go for a cheap super sedan that made 507 HP and screamed to 8700 RPM like an engine symphony that it is. The Merc V8 wasn't bad. But was very basic standard crossplane V8 which does sound good. But not V10 good.

Love E28s as much as you do. Have equally fond memories of it. I find it to be one of the most good looking cars of its time.

Hey James, I just lost my Dad last October we spent hours together watching DONUT. He used to have 65 FORD LOTUS CORTINA, it after market fenders and airdam styling very reminiscent of the 3.0CSL. This episode was extremely emotional for me I couldn't finish the episode until tonight. Your story was very close to my heart I used to have asthma myself and have driven at the speed of Angel's by the grace of God by my Dad. 87 T-brd Turbo Coupe w/ 350+. That car and my Dad were the reasons I bought my first car 91 SHO PLUS. Before he passed we starting planning doing a project together. We love WRC so after he passed I picked up an 02 WRX Wagon with a JDM STI front clip and JDM 2.0L Stock power for now but MO POWA will come in time BABY... I picked up STI rear doors and rear quarter panels I plan on doing a wide body conversion. I'll have a WHITE BUGEYE STI WAGON someday wish me luck... Love you Pumphrey, man keep going strong. I'm praying for your continued health. I wish I could be there workin with you.

met someone with a M 6 during the 635 era. back in 2000 the repair shop wanted 20,000 to rebuild his M6 engine, so he was putting something less expensive. when I had a 79 320i. fun car

The 5 series story reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson's Porsche 928 story about when his dad died. How he drove quicker than ever to arive just in time to say his goodbyes. That combination of the sad story I was reminded of and the fact that James wouldn't be alive today would it not have been for the fact his father had a fast af BMW really made me well up. Did anybody else get emotional when James told his story with the e28 or was that just me? I’m rewatching this and even thinking about it gets me in my feels.

I don't even know you besides your videos, but I love you James!!! You almost got me today. I think we can all agree that we're glad that you're alive and thanks to your dad for that!

Every true car guy would not be at all ashamed or embrassed. To tell such an amazing and emotional story. Man I just gained so much MORE(had it before) but more respect for you to share that story. It's good that this channel brings emotion in to the video's. It's what made the original top gear great and what will and makes this channel so great

Just on the topic of the 8-series...and dads: yeah having one of those V12 850's would have been cool, but my dad had an 840Ci and it hauled ass, man. One of the most underrated Bimmers.

Saw my first Dakar yellow e36 M3 yesterday, and I gotta say, that colour is so awesome IRL, pictures don’t do it the justice it deserves.

I'm surprised you didn't mention that the E34 M5 Touring also had a double sunroof, incredibly rare for its time.
