UPDATE: During the post-production of the documentary "13 Lost: The Untold Story of the Thai Cave Rescue," director Raimund Huber received an email from Rick Stanton, leader of the British rescue divers, facilitated by Ben Svasti, a liaison for the British divers. Stanton's email, containing false accusations/assumptions, was seemingly aimed to influence the director’s project and discredit Ben Reymenants. The director refuted these accusations/assumptions and asked for evidence, but neither Stanton nor Ben Svasti have responded yet. The truth needs to be told. So the ropes were laid by Ben and Maksym. And it was BEN who suggested to use the face mask for the boys. The British found the boys BUT without 🇧🇪 and 🇫🇷 who built the infrastructure for 🇬🇧, the English will never find the boys on their own. HEROES to Ben and Maksym !!!!!

@@vincegoshi Ben was involved only in the search phase of the rescue, and there's a good reason for this. The movie "Thirteen Lives" is largely fictional, and the National Geographic documentary "The Rescue" presents the story from the perspective of the British divers, with Rick Stanton and John Volanthen having an exclusive deal (even the Euro Divers were all cut out). The documentary completely omits the crucial line-laying phase. Volanthen’s book does not even mention Reymenants during this process, and Stanton’s book provides only a fragmented account. When I watched the movie 13 lives I ask myself who laid the red ropes since I listen to many cave diver disaster stories enough to know that guide ropes are lifeline for diver. Now I know the heroes who laid it. Thank you.

I just watched the movie today that's why I'm here. I thought the same! While watching this documentary, I'm a bit confused as to why they're not interviewing John and Rick and it turns out, these are different guys who actually did a LOT of job as well that deserves credit too! Omg.

I would like to say thank you to Ben, Maksym and Savy...You are the true heroes, because you have laid out the pathway reaching the kids. The two Britishers should thank Ben, Maksym and Savy. Documentaries and TV series have highlighted the Australian Doctor and the British, but never mentioned both of you. However, they have forgotten to highlight Ben, Makysym and Savy big contribution. As a Thai people, I’d like to thank you every unsung heroes. I can only say what you’ve done never go waste. If you don’t expect anything from a good thing you do, the result will come back to you unexpectedly as well.

Thank you for sharing this story, I watched the British version. Now I know, the ropes were laid by Ben and Maksym. I must have watched 6 documentaries and movies about this rescue, this one just came across my KZread feed. It really helps gel all the glitz given to the British divers into perspective. We know at least a dozen international divers participated, but only 3 became acknowledged heros. I'm so glad these other intimate stories of this miraculous successful global effort are out there and not washed away with time. I live 7km from the cave, been there before during and after, not the most inviting habitat to be in under any conditions. Thank you for all your efforts and the great risks you overcame towards the glorious outcome. Thank you.

I’m sad & disappointed, that the new movie didn’t depict & recognize the story of these brave men. I’m so glad I saw this video! I knew there was more to the story, and this clarified much. Thank 🙏🏾 you gentlemen, for you courage & selflessness.

@@jorr1334 my guess would be he didn't want to get involved in the politics of what went down. So much easier to start an English film with 2 well-spoken English people. What a shame. As they say in this documentary many heroes have reached the top on the backs of others. The European team deserved recognition for their role in this story. Ben getting sucked into that narrow passage could so easily have ended in disaster. But he ultimately discovered the passage that led to the boys, even if the British prevented him from participating any further. Egos are something else.

As an observer in this whole thing, I knew there were many, many stories we had not heard. The remarkable rescue was because each "group" did their job. I knew the lines were placed and were a very important part of this rescue. The bravery and persistence of this group was unsung but we all knew they were there. This rescue could not happen without EACH group of incredible men doing their job. Thank you.

I wonder why they wouldn't give Maksym a rebreather? Ben had one, so he could have continued on for hours, but not alone. Maksym had tanks which didn't allow him to continue, so they both turned back. After watching a dozen retellings of this story, the cockiness of some of the "heroes," who never mention Ben, Maksym, Pae or Seva and were pretty dismissive of the Thai Seal team doesn't sit so well with me.

@@ksc743 me too, I mean respect to both british divers, but I don’t like the way they treat Ben, his team was the main reason that those boys are found, the 2 british divers only have to do is scuba into the next chamber. I love how the Thai military give Ben his props and invited him to the palace.

I am Thai. I am so happy to watch this documentary which make me know more the true story. I am so truly thankful from the bottom of my heart for unsung heroes.

This needs to be made into a movie, they need their recognition!!!

I am British and I would like to apologise for the way you were treated. You should all have got the recognition. It was an international effort. I am proud of the British team but proud of you too ❤

I have been following every documentary and footages of thai rescue in detail..this was a fresh perspective and I could see a bit of politics in here..although it was for a good cause I appreciate you people were mature enough not to make it a news and lay low as the priority was their safety and rescue..you opened our eyes and really appreciate it guys..surely unsung heroes

Thank you Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka for your bravery and never giving up when others did. This is truly a remarkable story and it's so sad that the Netflix series did not even give acknowledgement either not any media interviews that I've seen. I salute you and all the unsung heroes.

Ben and Maksym are the unsung heroes. You guys persevered when others thought it was impossible. Sadly not many people know your contribution and sacrifices. Thank you!

Absolute respect to these guys, they are heroes. My dismay is that, not only the divers featured here but also the large numbers of support volunteers who have only been included as, “Oh yes there were others who helped,” without asking for or being given credit or acknowledgement. They too deserve much more recognition than has been offered. Personally, I am able to only name one, who I count as a personal friend, so it’s not even remotely appropriate for me to identify him. Enough for him to know that he has my undying respect! 👌 I think the lack of recognition is disgraceful, each nation involved should be encouraged to provide a roll of honour for their own Nationals, to be displayed along with the rolling credits of ANY and ALL media regarding this truly international cooperative operation!

We don't forget all the workers who even moved a rock, or cooked a meal everyone saved those boys and we appreciate you!

Glad to watch this documentary... Ben and Maxsym did it on another level of bravery where you guys risk your life to dive into the unknown laying the line. Thanks you Ben, Maxsym, Savy and Pae... Disappointed with others documentaries not mentioning any of your guys efforts...

There is but yet one more unsung hero the biggest most important of all "COACH" he not only kept 12 young boys alive for 10 long days in blind darkness by keeping calm praying together, by way of meditation. In darkness he taught all 12 boys how ro find water in the rocks to fish for food with bare hands by way of sound. Taught them how to breath through their fears , not to panic in order to conserve their energy . Most importantly Courage to keep fighting not only for themselves but for one another by never giving up hope!...... Coach🕊 Guardian.....

I can’t imagine how the divers went through the water with no visibility. Imagine being first to find a way through and making how many wrong turns before the right. Then realizing bringing the kids through with you. For a rescue. The bravery is insanity!

Great Sacrifice - Ben, Max and Seva.. you did a great job to save lives.

Thank you for bringing this to light... These guys are no longer 'unsung' heros thanks to this. Truly an incredible story.

i am BRITISH and i was very proud of our divers , and i must say you two divers deserve has much praise has them , you did a great job , so did the seals the guys who brought the pumps in to reduce the flow of water that must of helped the divers , i have learned something watching this ,

Like you, @George, I am British and in fact a cave diver as well. I did not know about this side of the story. I do think its very poor indeed that it took Rick 3 years to acknowledge Ben and Max, and a disgrace that John never did. As to how Ben was treated by the Mitchell fellow from BCRC, that was an absolute disgrace. I hope more people watch this video to better understand the contribution that Ben and Max made. They deserve equal credit alongside the British team.

no, "your divers" are an embarrassment to your country!! sure they did good in getting the kids out, but besides that their behavior was disgusting!

I think everyone didn’t expect anything; it was a beautiful story, and thank you to everyone who went there and helped the boys, even the farmers; when I watched the movie, I thought there was a gap in the story, and this was the missing one.

Fantastic story, after this happened I have to say I was a bit Thai cave rescued out but this was completely engaging a story. The 2 divers Ben and Max are just awesome in what they did for those kids, strangers, and without deserved recognition. And they are understandably pissed off, but not bitter. I can’t even conceptualise how they did what they did, leaving jobs and loved ones to dive in murky water and deal with international ego politics. I never could see myself even dreaming I might risk it all for a dozen kids I didn’t know. Now that I can own that I’m not hero material, how about those British? To be fair, of course they too were extremely heroic, and deserved allthe praise they got but I couldn’t help but think, Maksym and Ben: been snubbed, robbed and I the end, pwned by the English? I’m Australian, welcome to my world!

There were so many parts and many groups in this operation. May be the movie just picked up a part of them to show out. No one can tell all details of that situation. We just know when they talk out loud. I very appreciate every single of THE TEAM.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💝😊

I have always heard of the British divers but not of these guys who have put the ropes and did a lot of the ground work. Thanks for sharing this story. Good grief, just watching this video of the under water work gives me lots of anxiety. You must be truly fearless to want to be a cave diver. Brave men all of you and true heroes for not giving up.

Thanks guys, for share all of this with us. I always thought that there was something more about the British’s story. They were incredible, but you’re incredible too. God knows that… the true recognition comes from Him. Don’t be upset. That rescue it was only possible because of all those parts working together. We can’t talk about just two heroes at all.

Wow, I’m glad I watched this version. Credits to Ben & Max. I’m sorry that the Brits took all the credit for this. In the Netflix movie, it depicted the two Australian’s are the real brains behind the final rescue where they were sedated and taken out by the divers. I’m glad Ben & the guys got the recognition they deserved by the Thai president. All in all, the kids are rescued by a huge team effort. Everyone is a hero in their own right. At least the kids are alive and well, returned to their families. I hope they close this cave down.

The cave isn't at fault. It has been visited safely by many before. What needs to be done is changing the work culture in Thailand. It should not hierarchy based. The incident could have been prevented if employees at the weather centre had the authority to issue a public warning about monsoon starting. The slow process of getting critical information to the higher ups and then waiting for their response. That really played a strong part in this unfortunate incident. If public warning had been issues just a little faster. The soccer team would not have entered the caves.

Outstanding work! Brilliant documentary! In the 2022 film Ben's team's work was replaced by the Thai Navy seals entirely. It's just filmmaking but I am glad this documentary was made.

I am an American living in Thailand and of course I followed this rescue with rapt attention while it was in progress. As others have said, I am so happy to hear Ben, Seva's and Max's side of the story. On behalf of everyone in Thailand and around the world, thank you for everything you did and for the class and grace you demonstrate in this retelling of the story. It is fitting that you were with the Thai Seals because you exhibit the compassion, kindness, and humility of the Thai people. As someone also said, what you do out of the goodness of your heart will come back to you perhaps through an unexpected channel, but it will come back. It will be wonderful to see how that happens, or has already.

I'm glad I watched this version of events before seeing any other documentation of this rescue. All of the people involved deserve credit for doing something most would never even attempt, but especially the ones who laid the lines. It is the most dangerous part of cave diving.

Not entirely true. Rick Stanton thanked Ben 3 years after the rescue (1 year after the release of this documentary) and John Volanthen never thanked or shared the credit to this day.

Thanks for this video from another angle. Watched many videos and agree that names Ben n Max did not pop out alot. As depicted by the Netflix series, the official story must have much political "relationship" at play.

As usual complex procedures require team effort ,and the more seamless it is the better it usually turns out .anybody who has performed difficult difficult surgeries ,difficult military operations...etc knows or should know that ,maybe not the general public but still I knew there had to have been more specialists involved for it to have worked so well, I’m glad those people were portrayed in this documentary I wish they would have been recognized more even by the British team and internationally .To them goes my recognition ,for their humbleness for the quiet , unnoticed but resilient and strong effort .It should be known that these people were the cornerstone of the rescue.

We all know it was a massive team effort. Thank you to every one of you. I live in CR for many years. Thank you every one.

Every one who came to help are heroes, No one stood on the shoulders of others! I followed this news everyday all day as a Thai and there are many interviews from volunteer drivers, Thai SEALs and documentaries in Thailand that told the same thing that the British drivers are the main key of this successful and somethings different from this documentary. However, there are many drivers take turn to work in various tasks and focused to help, not to show themselves to the media. But “SOME” drivers came for the “Pictures and News” inside the cave to sell to the media which is illegal, that is why they are not allowed to enter the cave in the later.

Your comment didn't age well. It was Rick and John who banned the diver from the rescue after he brought the Brits back in when they had given up on the rescue and the children.

I feel sad they werent credited though... thats not fair... Its hurtful. Every ounce of hard work deserves recognition... Ego should be one of the 8 Deadly Sins!...

I tend to observe that the people least concerned about personal recognition and credit are the most effective at getting results. In many instances big egos, often those of legit NPD cases, will come in to take credit and glory after the hard work is done. This story seems to at least somewhat keep with that trend.

Knowing the great deeds you guys have done, I am honored as a diver.

Thanks for the documentary and knowing who laid the guide ropes. These heroes I think did not received the recognition for their efforts.

Unsung heroes but God knows your bravery and dedication and above all - THEY know they played a huge part in saving 13 human beings and ultimately that is all that matters. May God bless them.

I don't want to be the guy who point who made the biggest contribution, but I would say each and every efforts involved in this rescue mission should be applauded all the same, all of them! It's pointless arguing who did their best, cause all of them did. We're just people after all, no one is perfect. Also rest in peace to the two rescuer who passed away from this mission(one directly, and other indirectly, from what I read). Your bravery live on!

Say that to all the Australians and NZers that were put in the frontlines by Britain that died like lambs to the slaughter. It is obvious some have taken credit for something they didnt deserve in this story - glad I know now it was Ben and Max that were behind the real rescue.

Indra - I agree. When 'one/some' (very understandably) lost hope, others stepped in and pushed forward, and so and so forth. Without the team on top of the mountain, directing the water away from the sink holes the rescue would not have happened; without the strength of the coach keeping the children calm, the ending would have been tragic; etc. etc. etc. ...and so and so forth. Every person involved played a their very important part - the aim was to rescue those poor children and their coach - the aim was achieved. Precious lives were saved, by everyone stepping in and stepping out, and pulling together to achieve that aim. A magnificent effort from each and every one concerned - it upsets me when people sour this fantastic and magnificent happy ending with negative unhelpful comments.

YOU GUYS WERE GREAT PART OF THE SUCCESS OF THE RESCUE OPERATIONS! KUDOS TO EVERYONE AS WELL LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL DIVERS WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES TO SAVE THE KIDS & THE COACH ❤👌

This was not meantioned in 13 Lives. If totally true, the more famous 3 divers from the movie ought to have explicitly mentioned the efforts of these men who pioneered the way to the children.

I will support you. Even if others can't see Please know that we can see you. And thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Credit is deserved, where credit is due.... thank you guys for your extraordinary efforts and staying the course... Those children survived because of all efforts, especially for those who risked diving in treacherous conditions...that was huge. Love peace and blessings 💞✌️🙏

When someone can tell you the whole story and not just the ending of it is when you know they are true.

Their work to find these lost souls was brave and heroic. Thankful for every single person who put their lives on the line and supported the miraculous rescue.

Synopsis: The untold story is that Rick Stanton and John Volathen of The British Cave Rescue Council initially found it too difficult and dangerous to penetrate into the cave and were about to give up when two other divers were called in, Ben Reymenants of Belgium and Maksym Polejaka of Ukraine. Ben and Maksym did much of the ground work in way of exploring the right side of the T junction and laying of guide ropes through the most difficult sections- making the rescue possible and yet are barely mentioned in most articles and documentaries. In 12 Lost interview, Ben states he was the first to say the kids would need to be brought out in full face masks and was ridiculed by the Brits and shunted off to manage the O2 tank replenishment station. However both were recognized by The Thai Royal Navy and His Majesty The King to receive medal commendations.
