** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

Oh, you mean the sweet wittle piggies? Oh how cute, the misguided priorities of the uneducated mind when it comes to hard choices to be made, and cruel actions to be taken, regarding a controversial subject like the difference between Exterminating A Harmful, Invasive Pest,,, and Hunting. I'm sure there are some out there that think that the freshly emerging cockroach is cute and sweet, but it's still a harmful, destructive, and disease carrying pest, cute or not. There's rules and ethics in Hunting species, like deer, that could become endangered from over/unethical hunting if baby/young deer, pregnant females, or females caring for dependant young, were hunted. Those that are hunted are put down humanely with well placed shots that ensure as quick of a kill, and as low of an amount of suffering, as possible. When Exterminating a harmful pest it is of an animal who's numbers are out of control and is harmful and destructive to the habitats of, or directly to, other species that are natural to a region. So, you shoot in a manner that ensures as many are taken down as possible during each encounter. Shots are taken that may be during a panicked pork run and may not be aimed well enough to quickly kill, and does cause suffering, but those shots are useful by preventing the pests from escaping, thus allowing shots to be taken at other pests, then follow up shots can put them out of their misery once the rest of the pests have ran off and no more can be taken down in that moment. Some hunters/hog exterminator's don't shoot piglets out of personal preference, but shooting piglets is not breaking any hunting laws here, because this is not hunting, and every piglet taken is one that won't grow up to parent more piglets and add to the problem. It's unfortunate when the young and innocent are killed, but we aren't the only species to do it. Just about every carnivorous species on this planet has a prey species that they hunt and kill for food, and sometimes that opportunity to have meat for sustenance, may have to be from the prey's young, vulnerable, unable to defend itself, offspring. Lions and hyenas go after, and kill, baby gazelles all the time. The cute little baby zelle's have barely managed the ability to stand and walk, and then they're attacked by predators that lured or scared its parent(s) off, and then the predators tore the baby to shreds while it's still alive and suffering. It's an unfortunate cruelty inherent in nature that the strong exploit the weak to live, grow stronger, grow more intelligent and prosper, and they do so with such cruelty, and with no mercy what so ever. Yeah, eating meat is what was responsible for us having such large, complex brains that are capable of learning incredible amounts of information, and feeling these and other powerful emotions.

@@m1a2abrams52 you like the MG34 as opposed to the MG42? The 42 goes through the belts of ammo like crazy with its high firing rate, much quicker than the slower firing 34. I'd have to agree, while I do like the 42, the 34 is much easier to control. I've never liked the idea of just spraying lead and mostly hitting nothing. I know that sometimes you have to keep the enemy's heads down, and keep them from being mobile, but I've always thought that short, well aimed shots were a much better use of ammo.

The D N R has declared an all out assault on them. Any hours hunted and by any means. Farming is a tough go now without the desecration and the disease they carry. Going after something that can mess you up if you're not careful is a little more challenging, plus these things are basically oversized rats that are over running large parts of the country and won't be missed.

Man, that looks like way too much fun! That is definitely on my bucket list. Seriously though, I know those wild hogs are a major issue to farmers and ranchers, and the problem only seems to be getting worse. Even though you are killing a lot of them, I bet you just about break even given the rate of reproduction. Still, what a hell of a way to do pest control. :)

Why do you not use "silencers" to keep the group from being alarmed?

A lot of hog hunters do use suppressors. However it's still nowhere near silent as movies portray. Hogs are also very intelligent, and when one spooks all the rest know to run as well.

Unfortunately can't do much hog hunting in Arizona, we have havalina hogs in this state. In order to hunt them you have to put in for a lottery, not to mention it would be a bad idea if you got the two confused....fish and game could take the rifle and slap a heavy fine.

This has to be done to protect crops , hogs don’t care if they eat your food up, plus the meat gets processed and feeds a lot of hungry people.
