Mike I had leave filter installed on my house. Works great. Lifetime warranty if it rush to come out and replace it if anything gets in your gutter because something happened to leaf filter they'll come out and clean your gutters for nothing has a lifetime warranty and it's transferable if you would sell your house.

I rented one this past summer for the day to help with staining my house. I was able to stain all the high areas in a day, I will not hesitate to rent one again in the future. I installed the brown gutter guards with built in screens from Lowes this past fall. The silicone that holds the screens on to the gutter guards didn't seem to be the best but So far so good. I have a lot of trees around, the type without the screens do not work.

Great video Mike. I’m with you. When I was 20 something I had no problems climbing a 26 ft ladder and cleaning gutters or painting the house. No way I’m going to do that now. This is great advice. Money well spent.

I rented one of those, it was great. Amazing how well it auto balances. The one I rented went up 37 feet I think, or maybe it was in the 40's can't quite remember. Anyway, wow, I couldn't believe how terrifying it was at that height. I cut an oak branch that was probably 6" in diameter with a bunch of other branches stemming off of it. It didn't quite brake off, and it swung back toward the lift. Practice makes safety!

I'm with you Mike, I have grown to dislike ladders too, and this spring I am going to rent one of these manlifts too. I have some similar work to do and this is the safest way to go about it.

We just rented one this wknd to prune my Mom's pecan trees. Well worth the money spent. 👍😁

I installed gutter guards last year and they worked out great. We have a Home nestled among many large maples. The leaves will just blow off the roof. In eastern Canada the leaves will plug the downspouts and freeze and then you have a real mess. I even got up on the ladder later in the fall to make sure they had been working and no leaves In sight. Cost about $400 in total

I rented a similar unit when I painted my house. I just masked off the basket so I didn't get overspray on it. It saved me hours on a ladder and was way more enjoyable than working off a ladder.

You are a smart man. I've seen too many folks who have suffered head injuries from ladder accidents.

i use a high lift for putting lights up on a huge 50 feet christmas tree there handy and more safer wich i like them better then a ladder and it has a nice stabblizers on it from tipping wich ladders are wabbly when going up nerves feels like the ladders getting ready to break

Hey Mike, i use the wire mesh leaf guards ,the kind the has two clips that clip into the gutter and and folds over onto the shingle ,i have tried several types and this design seems to work for me. I have a lot of trees that hover over my roof and have struggled with this yearly choir , now i clean out the gutter every three years or so to clear out the buds and small debris that make it through the screen. I wish i could get one of lifts around back of my house , have a bungalow with a walk out around back, but my property drops off at the rear into the woods ,no chance of getting one of those lifts around back. Good idea, I use my backpack blower. Works great just walk along and blow the leaves out doesn't take long . Then mulch the leaves. If you have a steep roof probably wouldn't work. Love your channel!

My property is heavily forested and gutter clean out was a biannual job. I installed guards 3 years ago and haven’t touch them since.

we just put some gutter guards on our house and they work great, easy to install👍🏍🇺🇸

Mike, man lifts are a great idea. A few years back I was cleaning gutters at my house off an extension ladder. The ladder slid out from under me and I ended up with a total knee replacement. Not good. Now just a couple months ago, a buddy was helping me with my windmill and he had rented a man lift. The tongue was wore out and it came loose turning around due to missing my farm and turned over on the highway. Not good. Didn’t do much damage but sure caused a big traffic problem!

I rented one last summer to wash my house the front is 3 stores because the basement is above ground in the front work great .

I have the gutter helmet on over sized gutters on my house. In the beginning they worked great. Over time the edge that is supposed to let the water roll around and into the gutter started to get dirt along the edge and the water then just ran over the side. So although I don't get leaves in the gutters, the water doesn't exactly go where you want it, and you have the clean the edges. Which is easier than cleaning out leaves. OBTW, I live in a pocket surrounded by hardwood and the leaves were so bad that I'd have trees growing in the gutters. That at least has been resolved, but I get the ice sickles too.

I did this for tree, pressure washing, bulb changing and more ... i can still feel the sway

I anchor off to my chimney and use a backpack blower to clean my gutters. Its messy but fast. I also installed some gutter covers this year and think they are worth it.

hey mike, you found my secret, i bought a new 40’ genie manlift in 2004 and has been my savior ever since! mine was the last year that you could take the basket off and add the crane hook. i’m a contractor and use it to lift walls and trusses on my jobs and also , like you did, use it to limb branches for my customers and gutter cleaning. as i get older, i’m with you on the safety aspect. thanks for the video!

We've had gutter helmets for probably 10 - 15 years and really like them. We have silver maples all around the house.

When I built my house in 1999, I specified to the contractor that I wanted some sort of gutter guard. He installed what looks like a galvanized wire mesh running between the outboard course of shingles and the gutter edge. I live amongst numerous red oaks, some branches overhanging the house, and I haven’t cleaned a gutter in 19 years. They stay clean with the minor exception of a small amount of beads from the asphalt shingles. Wonderful amenity!

Nice work Mike. I rent the exact same lift every year to decorate my 40' Blue Spruce for Christmas. Can usually knock it out in a 1/2 day (to stay at that $150 rate). This year I added a 6' tall star at the top (made by 2X2s nailed together and wrapped in lights). Puts the town square tree to shame!

Have you ever considered getting rid of those really close trees ? Would make a world of difference. I did 3 last year that were close like yours and what a difference. Takes a few months but after that, I didn't miss them. A lot of comments on how great gutter guards are. They work for the most part but they charge an enormous amount of money and still won't keep out the small stuff. I know unfortunately, I have had a landscaping business for 30 plus years and I get calls all the time about my "gutters are clogged and they shouldn't be because I have gutter guards". Just triple the cost, cause now I have to take apart the whole unit to access the down spouts or try to shop vac the stuff out 25ft up. Works awesome for some but... Cool vid as always !

Gutter guards work good if installed correctly. Oak flowers in spring will still get in there and any other small debris which could still cause an issue.

Make your own gutter leaf gaurds.Split 6" dia pvc pipe into three long way section.Drill holes and attach with electrical ties to existing gutters.👍

I had gutter guards on our house, and they work well to keep the leaves and small limbs out, but they make cleaning the gutters a real pain (granted you have to do it less). My shingles were getting worn and would degrade some, so I'd still have to take the guards off to clean out debris and dirt and asphault out of the gutters. I tried using screen over the gutters as well figuring that that would make it easy to use the water hose to flush out gutters, but then I ended up just getting leaf stems stuck all over in the screens. Nowadays I've just accepted the fact that I have to clean gutters haha.

I have the same issue... I have a peak I have been meaning to paint for a year now.. I think this may be the solution to my issue. It would be a great way to clean my chimney at the same time!! I was actually going to pay someone this summer to do that work.

Carefree Gutterguard - after 3 years the only thing in my gutters is a little bit of the gravel material from the roof shingles.

Our chimney on the back side of the house is 4 stories. I rent a JLG to clean it every other year, you won’t find me on an extension ladder. Thumbs up

I just replaced my outdoor halogen lighting with LED's. Much brighter and they should last longer.

I rent the JLG T500J from my local Home Depot via Compact Power. I use it to do my tree work when I don't use the climber.

Added gutter guards 5 years ago--and have never cleaned them since. PS--my house is surrounded by live oak trees.

I did the same thing and cut some trees down. Worked great. I've got the gutter protectors and they work great! No problems at all.

With all those trees on your property there has too be a few maples......have you ever thought of tapping a few to make some syrup? It’s the season right now.....a gallon of sap would be easy to collect and should make enough syrup for a breakfast 🥞 if you just wanted to give it a try.

Very wise decision Mike, it is money well spent! You do a great job of pre planning all the high work tasks (noticed the flood light bulb changes and maintenance also) trimming the trees, inspecting the roof condition, etc. This fall I had an outfit come and clean the moss/lichen/branches crap off the roof, they also did my gutters, they were there and the price was right! I am with you though my extension ladder days are over. I have also rented one of those rigs for trimming/topping trees around the Homestead. I get the unit here by pickup then hook it up to my Bota' rtv 1100c and pull it just about anywhere in the woods (that the fallen trees/branches are cleaned up). It's great for setting up a really high tree stand without the 'Wallenda maneuvers' if you know what I mean. Thanks for the video

Dennis the RTV would be great for moving it around, I have used the tractor before and even that was much easier than the long truck

Leaf guards are worth their weight in gold! Same thing here in n.e.pa.lots of maples and oaks.oaks hang on late

What a great idea! I was thinking about using that for trimming our giant leaf maple in the front of the house. The tree trimmers and arborists around Seattle think everyone works for Amazon and can afford to hand out 2,000 for a trim. Thanks again for a great video, Mike!

I checked out the local rental equipment business and they wanted $275 /4 hours for a man lift and I don't think it was even as tall as your rental. Geez.

Mike, I replaced my fascia this spring and left the gutters off as an experiment. Since we are talking about gutters and moving water away from the house this is what I did. I have a 10/12 roof and when I built the house (earth contact) I insulated the foundation and used 4" lateral pipes around the footer (not flexible corrugated) with elbows and 3 T's for clean outs. I covered it with 4' of clean rock maybe 1" and ran 4 separate 4" lines out about 200 feet in front of my house. When we get a gully washer it looks like 4 water main breaks down in the front of my house. Still clean as a whistle since 1992. Anyway I am looking at "Rain Handlers". It's not a trough system. There is a bracket that screws to the Fascia every 5' or 6' and a piece that clips in the bracket that has 5 or 6 angled blades that throw the water. You run a straight edge down the roof and raise the brackets up to the straight edge, so there is maybe 6" below the shingles that would stop ice dams. There are videos out there. I think I will install them on the front next summer after more thought.

Anything you can do to make life easier I'm all for it !! 👊

That man lift is the best and safes way to do things. Always be safe

costco in Cranberry has a great micro mesh gutter guard. A client had me install them on his house and was quite impressed. I don't like "gutter helmet": Water freezes & dams up on the metal (had to install heat cable on top of one), pain in the butt when reroofing / repairs, and expensive.

i have used ladders for many years and never had one ladder injured. all kidding aside, this lift looks like the ticket for me to reach some high limbs that i need to remove. no way am i going to try that from a ladder. gutters sure, but not tree trimming.

Mr Mike, I have a genie s 60. I’ve pulled over downed trees, installed windows, even pulled my truck out of a ditch with it!

the high lifts are exspensive to buy i priced one they wanted $10, 000- $17,000 to buy

It really didn't daen on me to clean my gutters with it. I have several on high areas over 25 feet that are sloped. I had thought about renting one to knock branches off of a dead ash that's really close to my pole barn, I'll need to clean the gutters as well.

Man lifts work great. Maybe you could work with friends and neighbors to share the cost. Gutter helmet work good but expensive. Also have to be duelt with when replacing the roof. I have also seen them actually screwed down through the shingles. Vynal screening is junk. I have found aluminum works good. best to get screen between drip edge and shingles providing it does not hump the shingles to much and impede water flow off the roof. Then zip screw to front edge of gutter.

I rented a similar unit the last time I painted our house. Only way to do it.

I rented one of these last year for a day and saved $3,000 by trimming a bunch of oak trees myself...These lifts are great and easy to operate...

I have numerous projects to do, so i bought my own Genie 34/20....lol

The man lift is the way to go, as we get older out legs are not as strong as they once were. Lol I have gutted guards and there ok until a hard rain. The small holes can't take a lot of water.

Just a little tip... you need to unhook the man lift from the trucks hitch when using it.

Safety First! live to fight another day. Great idea. I need to wash the siding and remove a wasp's nest. This may be the way to go. Unless of course, I can pay someone else to do it for a little more than the lift.

I agree. The manlift is way safer.

Great info. However, i had to take classes on operating manlifts and they can be very dangerous. I highly recommend at least some basic training if you are going to be operating one on different types of terrain. Stay safe

The nanny state we live in here in Ontario requires you to have a licence now to rent and operate one of these tools. Tired of over regulation. Good thing I have a pal that runs a rent-all

Totally ridiculous , had to take a full day course "working at heights" inorder to step foot on a condo site inorder to do my job, measuring counter tops, Lol. Agreed "Liberal idiots"

My guess is that Mrs. M is going to be pissed as you forgot to clean the windows like you promised. She'll have to do her own video and show you how that's done. Lol

I was up a man lift 45 feet one level foot hose spring a leak this makes man liet start to go out of level I start lift down fast before lift will auto shut down I was ok if I did get down may have call fire dept.

You’re not supposed to leave it connected to the truck

Rent Hell. I bought a used one with low hours and in great shape. Will use it for years and ultimately resale it at break even or small depreciation

You need a helmet up there!!!!!! Nice to use instead of a ladder but I still need to decide it is cost effective. But you are definitely right that one fall will prove it's weight in gold.

Mike - Did you have the man lift still on the trailer hitch when you self leveled it? Can you do that? I have to rent one to take down some trees and the area is on a little bit of a hill. It would be easier to leave it on the trailer hitch.
