In todays video Im using the RK 24 Subcompact Tractor to spread some top soil along the driveway. I talk about the uses of these little tractors and if they are really useful around your property or just a toy.

Thanks for showing us how to do a project. Laying a bucket load of dirt one right after the other and then spreading it makes me reconsider the way I do my work. Thanks for the new ideas! Enjoy your week. I hope you have many days of sunshine and dry weather!

Mike, I have the Kubota BX1880 and L3800, it is probably a matter of preference and time allotment regarding which tractors to have. A bigger tractor like the RK55 will get some things done faster but is also a little less manueverable in my opinion. I have several acres to mow maybe once or twice a year in which I use the L3800, it would be nice to have a larger tractor to do that but otherwise I'm very content with both. The BX is great doing the "tight" work and the L3800 does the rest of the chores. Love the videos! Weather check in N.GA mostly cloudy and warm 80 deg.

Great video and I had a 1025r with backhoe and was amazed at what it could do and your little RK has a lot in comment with the JD, however with me I moved up a bit to a 2032R it doesn't get into the tight places as the 1025R did but has a lot more lifting capacity. Thanks for the videos never a dull moment watching you go at it with all those tractors and implements enjoy these videos..

Mike, I feel the same way as you on this. I had a John Deere 2025 and loved it but I upgraded to a 4044 for the lift capacity. The 4044 is a beast (for me- my buddies back home in Iowa have 600 HP tractors ) but I miss the little tractor when maneuvering in tight spaces. Both sizes super useful. Great video thanks! Don’t forget about a the cordless battery powered grease gun haha

Already have a 45HP Kioti, but when I first saw you putting this little tractor through it’s paces, I got me thinking of getting it for working in the woods vs getting a new four wheeler to pull a trailer. This RK 24 and a smaller (carry all) setup would make a great back woods trail worker. It’s 3” narrower than the KingQuad I’m looking at; albeit much longer.

Too funny ... and I fully agree/understand the being confused and torn. While I currently own only one tractor (my needs/desires drove me to a Kubota L3560 which other than the price is almost the same as the RK 37) after having watched a fair number of your videos I'm actually torn between getting a second larger tractor (likely Kubota M5 class or competitor) -- or a mini to mid-sized excavator. BTW if you can, try a 3pt finishing mower on the RK 37 some time --- you may be surprised at just how effective and maneuverable even a tractor that size can be for mowing a yard.

Hi Mike! First of all thank you so much for the time you and your family put into these videos. I have learned so much by watching. My husband and I live in the country and have 21 acres, so there's lots of things to do. We have a Kubota BX 2370 with a front loader and I'm still learning how to use it. I love it!! I was wondering what kind of hearing protection you have and does it play music or just block out the sound? Keep up the good work!!

The tractor in the Kubota line up that gets over looked a lot is the L3560. With that tractor it is a little heavier, 37 HP, and you can get the LA805 loader with it... which would give you about about 615 lbs of extra lift capacity over your L3901 loader. It also has auto-throttle, stall guard, and a whole slew of other features. Sorry... now I sound like a commercial, but I have been impressed with what I can do with my L3560, and yet it is the one that seems to get overlooked.

  • @joshuapreusser2265

    @joshuapreusser2265

I second that completely as I bought a L3560 last spring and while I was initially a bit worried it'd be too big for mowing the yard, it's actually been extremely productive on that front. Previously using a zero-turn it took about 45 minutes to mow just my yard, now it takes me ~2 to 2.5 hours to mow not only my yard, but my pasture as well. In all, I'm mowing just under 3 acres with roughly a 1/3 of that being yard (that has more than a dozen trees I need to mow around).

If you ever need to redo the area or do a similar project a very thin layer of top soil over fill dirt then seed with clover for a short cover crop that improves the soil over time and produces flowers for bees at the same time. Planting naturally low plants stops you from needing to mow it so less work for the future. At the same time you are planting the sides get some flower bulbs to spread in the area with different times to flower for additional bee food throughout the season. After a few years can dig them up to split up the bulbs as they spread to fill in the area over time. If you are going to have cows/goats/sheep/horses free grazing on the land make sure you check ahead of time that the flowers grown are safe for them to eat. The sub compact tractors are great for getting into places that you just can't take anything else and with a log arch they can be used to skid logs out of places you want minimal damage to or the use of a log arch to tow lumber in for a building project away from where you could take a truck. With a PTO or hydraulic pump and a tank trailer they can also make great fast attack fire rigs as they can get into spots a wild land brush truck can't

If I could have two tractors I'd have my larger Kubota L6060HSTC and a small subcompact. I'd rather have my backhoe on the subcompact. The smaller tractors are great for maneuverability. I thought about buying a subcompact before I traded my New Holland Workmaster 55 for the Kubota. Unfortunately the subcompacts with a loader+backhoe combination are so expensive it was most cost effective for me to just upgrade my tractor to something with a factory backhoe. Great videos on these RK tractors.

Just to clarify, his channel is not solely compact tractor but he does use his a lot on the channel. Maybe if someone is in the market for a subcompact tractor, your channel and tims channel are highly recommended, especially if you are not sure if those little tractors are not tuff enough to do what you need it to do.

Mike, a little off subject perhaps, but where do you think a track skid loader fits in with regards to general upkeep on a large property? In Missouri, you can find an older (2500 hr) Bobact like a T190 for about 20k. For grading, driveway maintenence, clearing and grubbing etc. they are much more efficient and stable than a tractor ( in my opinion). Curious as to what your thoughts are on this. Thanks

Buddy i really like that RK54 ,, looks like a good stout machine,,, and i believe you mentioned it has a Yanmar power plant,, i do have a question or actually a cpl.. first are these machines manufactured in a different country and then assembled here in America ? Or are they manufactured and assembled here in America , or none of the above and both assembled and manufactured in another country and if so what country is that ? Im not trying to put you in a awkward position by answering these questions so if its a problem then let it be... 2nd how many dealerships are there here in central PA ? In case you need parts and service ... i hope they aren’t things they would rather you didnt answer,, but to me are important questions to know none the less... thank you for the always entertaining and informative videos..

Straw helps with erosion if it rains and helps keep the seed from being washed away to the bottom. Grass actually is best to be planted in the fall in our region.

I'm looking to purchase a sub compact tractor and terribly confused between the RK24 and the GC 1710 massey Ferguson i love both. My local dealership for the Massey has been selling them for 75 years where Rural King has only been here a couple years. On the other hand the RK24 has a few important added features standard that is only available on the GC 1710 at a cost. Talk about tough decisions.

I will try to end your confusion. You need one tractor for each implement. That being said, have you ever heard anybody say that they wished they had LESS horsepower? My Kioti CK 27hst does everything I have asked it to do, from plowing snow to moving trees. It just does it slower. If I were to go to more horsepower then it would be a DK 40. I really like the air conditioning feature that I don't have on the CK.

They are a tool. However often its the drivers who are the bigger tools. Not you mate not my meaning. I own a full size tractor. I have work that needs it. The tools are the yahoos who have a 1 acre plot and by the small john deere with loader and ride over mower and basically exclusively mow their lawns with it.... Yeah we get it. Ya live in surburbia and have more money than your neighbors. But dear god do you need a 3000lb tractor to maintain your McMansion. Theirs tons of these idiots out there peeps.
