Made the mistake on my first tractor 50 years ago of not getting 4WD. Have known several people who have made this mistake, even after my suggestion, that opted for the 2WD model and after only a couple of years traded for a 4WD.

I don’t regret at all , l just purchased a 1025 R LMB I took the real plunge & got all the bells & whistles I watched all your videos & loved them all. Thanks for all the help in deciding what to get . Thanks STAN MICHAEL 👍🏻

Good Morning! It's really nice to see a video directed at helping the customer make an informed decision. Unfortunately becoming rare these days.....Thank you!

Ballast weighting is the second part I bring up when I sell and talk to a customer giving a walk around when I drop off their unit. and when they are on the lot looking at one.

I was like 391 and glad of it. The information shared by GWT significantly eclipses OEM dealers who'd have us think they have all the answers when we come shopping. Courtney takes us way beyond where one typically finds themselves when dealing with a dealer. It takes both time and money to share such thorough information when educating oneself good enough to educate a faithful following on a continuous basis. Simply put, it never gets boring when learning from GWT.

When my son recently bought a 1025r, the dealer said nothing about options or bothered to go over the tractors functions when we picked it up. But then again, we've been doing business with them for 30+ years. LOL It is getting a 3rd function and different tires. But overall, the little feller is soooo handy!!

This is great info to share with folks looking for their first machine. I agree the third function hits my list of regrets. Thanks for sharing!

I bought my first tractor in 2015. I had zero experience or knowledge about tractors. I went to the local John Deere dealership. I was impressed with the overall quality. I made a 1025R purchase with a Frontier 48" rotary cutter and the standard bucket. I was disappointed that the salesman never explained much to me or gave me information on attachments. He never mentioned the MMM or anything about ballast. Thinking back now I wish he had upsold me to a series 2. I eventually purchased a 60" MMM based on TTWT videos. It is an awesome attachment and is easy to install and remove. I don't have a quality lawn by any means and only have grass around my house. The MMM does a great job keeping it down. I'm not impressed with my 2 local JD dealers and even less impressed with their websites and help. The tractor is amazing and I love that it does everything I need around my farm. It's even better since I bought a set of pallet forks from GWT. Thankfully youtube videos from GWT and TTWT have helped me a great deal with my tractor.

Best thing I put on my tractor was a set of pallet forks! Bought it the same day I ordered the machine - Everything Attachments was excellent to deal with.

I bought a '23 1025r and the 60" auto-connect belly mower is one of the things I like the best. I like the smaller uncut radius of this combo over the Kubota. Most of the other reasons I chose the JD over the Kubota turned out either to not actually be valid and/or were printed material ambiguities. For those looking at Front End Loaders, consider the Mechanical Self Loader (MSL) option. That is what I thought mine had according to the printed and downloaded materials.

I thought my sub-compact rk19 would be too small but after I brought it home and started using it I found out it’s perfect for what I do. Any bigger tractor wouldn’t fit around my house.

I second the recommendation on the Carlisle Versa-turf tires. Great winter and mud traction. Wish I got the hydraulic top link, but I got the right tractor. I don’t regret getting the 1023e instead of the 1025r. There wasn’t anything on the 1025 that I miss. I had the dealer install two rear facing LEDs on the roll bar for night time operation and I’d never be without them. Always appreciate the advice from both you and Tim.

Great video. You hit on the biggest problem for those first-time purchasers with regrets: Not knowing what they're going to use the tractor for and not knowing what the tractor(s) could/could not do for them. If you've not been around farm equipment, it's tough to know these things.

I have a 2210 John Deere. I love my mid mount 62" tractor! I keep it on 90% of the time! It makes the tractor more stable especially with the front loader is on. It's much easier mowing than a brush hog for my 3-4 acres of lawn on hilly terrain. The zero turn would probably end up in my pond!!! 4wd is the only way to mow on hills!😀

I watched all your videos prior to making a purchase. The information I found from GWT was the reason I purchased my 2032R last fall. I couldn’t be happier with it. I have 22 wooded acres to clean up. It is perfect. I just ordered a Speeco quick hitch last week from you guys. It was here in no time. I picked that brand again from watching your videos. Same with mirrors, grab handles etc. I can not express the appreciation enough that I have for your time and effort, especially as a first time tractor owner. My family just purchased a new 5045E for our new ranch (the good used stuff in our area is running so high and with so little existing inventory that it wasn't worth it to go that route). The reason we went with the 5 Series? Price. The 5 series actually came out around the same price as the 3039R that we had originally intended to buy, and cheaper than the 4044M. And I saw the same sort of thing with New Holland, Mahindra, and Kubota. That entry-level utility tractor cost the same as the larger compacts, and we got more tractor. Since we have a sizeable property, going larger than anticipated didn't hurt budget at all, and we have the room to expand with the larger unit.

Great video. First tractor was an 86 case IH 2wd with no bucket..I got tired of getting stuck. Bought L2501 HST. Main reason I don't have regrets with that purchase because I spent 2 years watching videos like your channel and got educated. I got everything I needed

I’m actually very impressed with the amount of work my ‘20 Deere 1023 can do. I did my research and the dealer was very helpful, I just didn’t realize I would need a difference between the 1023 and the 1025: cruise control. And I really only notice it when I’m rolling the 3.5 acres of lawn I have so it’s not the end of the world. I was aware I would need ballast (Heavy Hitch, front and rear!) and would NOT need the belly mower (not as maneuverable or as fast as my zero-turn as well as being a storage nightmare) thanks to watching what my cousin went through for a year before I bought mine. Ok, off to see if I can find an add-on cruise control for rolling but, really, putting it in high range and just resting my foot on the forward pedal just about does the job. Great video! Oh, and I couldn’t live without my Quick Hitch!

Lots of good information, wish I would have found your channel before I bought my 3038e. Now I do like it but this video hit on a few things that present limitations. The biggest for me is buying the "e" instead of the "r". Lift capacity, external hydraulics, comfort, heavier duty. Thanks for what you do.

GREAT VIDEO Courtney! Just wished I knew all this stuff 3 years ago when I bought my 1025r. It worked out though, but I did lose some money on the deal. But I traded up for a 2038r and this time I made SURE to get all of the little things you mentioned that I did not even know of before when I bought my first machine in 2018.

After watching this I now feel confident I have zero regrets with my new tractor purchase of a 2021 2025R and yes it has a backhoe ! - 126 hours on it in 2 months and at least 40 on the backhoe replacing a barn foundation and moving trees - only 1/2 done with that one project with so much more work to do here ! After watching this I am so glad I didn't buy the mid mount mower deck for my 2025R ! All I really need is a small riding mower - I'll likely buy used for a couple hundred bucks. I think the primary reason I feel so happy with my purchase is the education I obtained from this channel before and after I bought my tractor. Thanks so much !!

I love my mid mount mower deck. I have a John Deere 1023e. It takes less than 5 minutes to attach or detach it. I have about 3 acres to mow. I suppose a zero turn would be nicer but they cost about $3000 more and you can't put a loader a bush hog or a box blade on one.

I specifically purchased a belly mower so my tractor would do (almost) everything. A separate rider would be $3k-7k and I didn't see the point of spending that much on a single use machine

I had a belly mower on my old Kubota BX2680. Hated it! It didn't do a good job, the tractor left ruts in the ground, was tippy, and I had to remove it to turn the manure pile. I bought a Scag Patriot for $6500 and it is 100 times better. Cuts down the job considerably.

Thanks for the confirmation. I avoided all pitfalls with the exception of purchasing my implements at the time of tractor purchase. Not that big of a deal as I paid cash for those afterward but would have been a good tool for negotiation. The third function is a MUST for anyone with acreage and especially if your property is wooded or partially wooded. The grapple is by far my most used front end implement. I can't recommend it enough. My neighbors love it too ;-)

I have used the brush crusher grapple for the past year and my neighbor with a skid steer is amazed what I can do without a third function

I just purchased a Kioti CK2610 HST with FEL & bucket, which is currently being built at a dealer in northern TN. No mid-mount mower (don’t need it) tires being filled with rim guard and widened, attaching box blade for counter weight, ordered Titan pallet forks, dealer installed 3rd function valve and two sets of rear remotes, changed R4 tires to R14, linked pedals, NO cab- don’t care or need it for my applications, and SSQA. I upgraded from a JD 655 HST to the Kioti. I spent three years researching before pulling the trigger on the Kioti CK2610. The lifting capacities blew JD 3025e and Kubota L2601 away. I have all the dealers of all colors around me. I was disappointed with the JD 3025E, I really like the Deere’s. Thanks for the insight and sharing your tractor wisdom. That stump bucket is on my list (maybe I’ll win it). My only regret so far, should have bought the Artisan pallet frame and forks instead of Titan.

Thanks Courtney! My dealer/salesman was great, no regrets. Checked with them about a grapple and hydraulics to run it, would be about 4k all tolled, got a Worksaver mini tine and Summit kit from/through GWT for 2k easy install and works great.

I was lucky enough to have a well seasoned sales person when I purchased my 3320. He spent a good half hour asking what I wanted to do with it. I have owned it since 2008 and couldn't be happier. The only thing that would make it better would be a 3rd valve for attachments.

I bought a 1025 in aug. 2020. I love the tractor, but I have had nothing but problems with my dealer since day one. His reply when I asked for a manual was "what do you need that for?" This was after I had signed. I also was to recive 3 attacments with. I picked out the bucket, mower,and tooth bar. It has been 10 months and I still do not have a tooth bar. He tells me they stopped making them! Many other problems with him. I cringe when I have to go to get anything done for it. My best attachment is my 4way bucket by far. Got with the tractor and it works as grapple is great at sculpting and leveling banks with the open front portion pulling backwards and the back portion with the bucket open has a dozer blade that works great on my driveway. It picks up firewood rounds up to 3.5 feet across and 600 pounds it is great and no one's talking about it. Why is it so little promoted.

Great video. I just wanted to say I purchased a John Deere 2025R spring 2021 with loader, mid mower, tiller and backhoe (I also have a 5 foot bush hog). One of the best attachment's I have is the mid mower with quick attach. It's easy to put on or take off and with quick attach easy to clean. We mow about 3.5 acers, my wife use's the 2025 and I use our o-turn to mow around the house, trees ect. It's august now and we have 60 hours on our 2025, about half of those hours are using the mower. I raise the deck up and mow some areas that I used to bush hog. The backhoe I have not used that much, I don't regret having it but it is a lot of money for something that I don't use that much. I'm sure over the years it will get a bit of use.

this helped me a lot with what I was thinking. The dealer was also a great guy, i went from 'cookie cutter' to quote me costs on third party implements.

Got a 3032e in Feb. Didnt want a mid mount mower. 60" tiller is my ballast, works good.

Fill the tires, Quick release bucket, Bush Hog for ballast. Had a 40 New Holland, All I know, buy Bigger!

I was kind of surprised by the mower deck being a regret as I just love the 62" on my old 2305. It is fairly easy to put on and take off even if it is not quick attach. When I was shopping for a new tractor in 2007 the things I was looking for was a smaller tractor then my old Kubota 185. The issues I had with the Kubota was it sat higher up on the ag tires and it was loud. I was matching the tractor to my 5 acres of cleared property. I also wanted a tractor that had a backhoe and front end loader. After shopping around I ended up at the John Deere dealer and got a 2305 with the front end loader, backhoe and the 62" mower yeah expensive and having the power beyond hydraulics for the rear along with hydraulic lift for the mower deck. It took some work to get the tractor sorted out for my property and I wanted a sunshade as I have a issue with being sunlight sensitive. I was somewhat disappointed with the dealership on the way things were done prior to delivery. I mean having the mower deck way to low and not adjusting it to the proper height for 1-4". After getting the tractor adjustments and serviced to my requirements I got it perfect for the property. The number one best attachment I got for that tractor was the backhoe. I did also make one decision that I am really glad was having two different size buckets for the backhoe 8" and 12" when I bought the tractor. Recently I started to upgrade the tractor lighting like a light bar on the top of the sun shade and replacing all the factory lightbulbs with LED which means less power draw from the battery and alternator. Putting a light weight light bar on the sunshade has the benefit that the bucket does not interfere with forward vision at night when you might have to raise and lower the bucket.

B2601 with 60"MMM no regrets I always have the loader off when mowing. Tractor completely exceeds my expectations. I still have my cub cadet rider that gets used on banks etc.

Hmm. I am buying a 1023E right now and have read plenty of reviews saying they are happy with their mid mount mower. I understand a zero turn can be faster but I have some hills to mow which I heard low end zero turns are very bad on. As long as my 1023E will get the job done I don't mind if the job is a little slower. I was interested in a X700 but deere had made them so you cant equip a 45 loader anymore. My goal was to get once machine that can mow, collect leaves, loader work for mulch, compost, sand, grading, etc., and to help with snow removal in the bigger storms. I don't see any other good options to accomplish all of that with one machine.

Mid mount mower is the reason I'm getting rid of my tractor. Thought I'd use the hell out of it but I'd rather use my 300 dollar riding mower. It's just too big and a hassle to deal with. A tractor is not a mower

Never understood why anyone would purchase a compact (or larger) tractor when used just for lawn mowing. I don’t think all that weight is good for a lawn. I would strongly recommend an x500 or x700 series John Deere for lawn mowing.

Took me a year of research to hone in on what tractor I THINK will be best for me. Also came to the realization that a Mid-Mount mower was not the best option for me & that I THINK an offset flail (which you quoted for me) will work better for ME. Of course all of us 1st time purchasers are trying to imagine a lot wrt what we'll be doing. One piece of advice I saw early on was to order every available hydraulic option which made a lot of sense.

One of the dealers I've shopped told me to go to KZread when I asked if they would do an overview on using the tractor & implements. I haven't bought a tractor yet, but it almost feels like the salesmen just get impatient when I ask questions like that.

I did not want a mid mount deck on my 1023e, but the salesman insisted it would be best, even brought in another salesman to convince me. After a few months of using it and the hassle of taking it off and putting it back on, (adjust, drive on, nope adjust again, drive on) My dealer would not help me in trading for a finish mower, so I had to advertise it, a dealer in TN. bought it and with that money I bought a JBar finsh mower. Best move I made.

Back in 2017 I purchased a Kubota BX2680 with a front snowblower and a belly mower. Using as a grasscutter was a pain. It was tippy, would leave ruts even if you were careful, needed a larger area to turn, and just generally did a poor job. The snowblower was not the easiest thing to put. Once it was on for the season you weren't taking it off. It was 2-stage, and it did a poor job also. The snow had to be the right consistency. It used 2 different shear bolts which would break often. The front end loader had a lift capacity of like 400 pounds. I put 6 fence posts on it and the back of the tractor went up in the air. I bought the 2680 over the BX23 for the extra 3 horsepower for an additional $2000. That 3hp makes no difference in the tractor's capabilities. I also bought the clip-on pallet forks for the loader which are a joke. You can tighten them down all you want and they still loosen. SO, I traded that piece of machinery in and bought a Massey Ferguson 2860M 60hp tractor and a Scag Patriot ztr. I bought a ssqa pallet fork, a snow pusher from GWT, and a flail mower from GWT. I'm much happier now!

handles like a different machine with proper ballast, also love my mid mount mower with material collection 2 acres of leave gone!

I purchased a 3038E last year so disappointed in the power of the front end loader and the backhoe . Should have bought bigger for sure! 4066R wish I would have went with.

Yup, my buddy bought a brand new Kubota off the showroom floor. He did get a good deal and it included a MMMD (which he has never used and sits brand new in his shed) and a "pinned on bucket". He had no idea what a SSQA was because he didn't do the research. I bought mine and showed him my grapple (and bucket) and he was really bummed out.

Great video Courtney, the best thing I did when I ordered my 3 E series is I had 2 rear remotes added. I found out the salesperson didn't know his job very well. In 2018 the 3 E wasn't equipped for a backhoe attachment. He wanted to sell me an aftermarket 3 pt hitch backhoe that would've voided my warranty. I'm glad I didn't bite on that. I like my tractor but wished I'd known this beforehand.

I agree with your number 1. I have gone back and added the rear hydraulics and loader third function. I think my salesmen mentioned those things when I bought the tractor, I just didn’t listen and was more concerned about the price since I was paying cash. Dumb move! So I now have been back twice to add those, which obviously is more expensive. Now trying to save up for a grapple.

I needed a mower and a tractor for my 3 acres. Considered a scut but watched my neighbor bother with the deck all the time and mow half the speed. Bought a zero turn and waiting to buy a compact tractor this fall. I’m VERY happy with this decision. I have no desire to mow with a tractor and deal with taking that deck on and off.

Another comment, I totally agree with the R14 tire bit. Great tires. BTW, I'm commenting as I'm watching. The last bit, hydraulics. Spot-on, you can't have enough. I did think ahead and get rear remotes on my K, glad I did. Added a hydraulic top-link, a wonderful thing. Big mistake I made was not getting a backhoe when I bought the tractor. That was an expensive add-on. Oh, and never get one of those aftermarket backhoes that just hang off your 3-pt hitch. At least, not unless you really hate your tractor and want to break it in half.

Great video Courtney. It is so spot on. I did do a lot of research but not as much as as i could have. As i have told you in a talk at the shop i was going to get a 3039r but the perfect storm . Garage not tall enough , city codes and covid hitting john deere factory. Supply was going to get tighter and it really did so i went smaller ( 1025r with mauser cab). I know i have said this before thank you many times over for the tiny tractor video. It did not only made me more at ease with the purchase of this great, stout little work horse i do not regret it. Would i have liked the bigger tractor yes , but this will work just fine. Lastly the only things i wish it had are two: separate mower lift and the extra hydraulic function Anyway great video as always. You and Chis have great day and be safe. Tim

I do not own a John Deere but my tractor is brand new and I hate my belly mower. It mows great but has several draw backs. One of the main reasons I hate my belly mower is that the tractor does not have very good (any at all) suspension and when mowing a rough lawn then it can be hard on the body. Also if you have a hill, it is very dangerous to mow using a very tippy tractor.

Bought a Kubota Grand L limited. Thought maybe too big for my needs. I couldn't be happier. Just a fantastic machine and just right. Box blade, hard roof, quick hitch, forks and bucket. Went with a zero turn for mowing the 3 acre yard. The box blade and liquid filled tires are plenty of ballast for me. Still have a tiller, cary all, aerator and stump bucket on my wish list. I would have liked to have maybe tried turf tires (they are hard to get now) but also I probably would have gotten the tractor stuck by now with the earthwork I've been doing. So, no regrets. Thanks.

My dealer never offered any help really when I bought my tractor. I w9wh they had told me about some of the other options and maybe got to know some of my plans for the tractor. Actually, most of the questions I asked them they never got back to me on. Courtney has answered more questions for me then my local dealer. That's why I'll be buying my next tractor from Good Works Tractors.

I bought a used 1025R (‘21 w/60 hours) that came with the front bucket and 54” belly mower. I like that mower. But then, I’m retired and don’t mind burning time to get jobs done. Great around trees. My wife uses our Husqvarna 24V48 lawn tractor (also 24 Hp - which is why you can’t go by just horsepower) for finish mowing around the house and I use the 1025R everywhere else around our former sheep pasture and gardens. Compared to the 1956 Ford 640 and 5’ rotary cutter it replaced I’m in tractor heaven. Much easier to navigate in the woods when shagging firewood. Though I will eventually pick up a 4’ rotary most likely. Maybe even a flail (used to operate a Ford 2N with a flail and that was a great mower).

My only real regret is going with the dealer closest to my house. They were easy to make a deal with, but did some pitiful work on installed options. I can tell you who not to trust in Macon County NC. I smashed my grapple hookups on the first use and the hydraulic dipstick was dry upon delivery.

I am just the opposite - The places close to me are either big ag dealers with no interest in the compact market and terrible customer service or they are selling lawn tractors only. I bought mine 40 miles away in the suburbs - free delivery to my house, and at least 3k less than anyone else. The hydraulic cylinder in my backhoe started leaking in the first 30 hours of use (not from the seal but the cylinder itself needed to be replaced). This dealer picked it up and repaired it for free (no charge for the 80 mile roundtrip and warranty repair)

I enjoy your videos, lots of good stuff. I don't know what LS Tractor quick attach being different then skid steer, the one I have and the one I've ordered are skid steer type quick attach, stock

I see good tractors for sale here on FB and local swap sites and 90% of the time its one of two things. They are selling the one they have to buy one just like it or slightly larger with a cab because they did not buy a cab the first time and bought too small. Also, you often see people selling old tractors because they did not support quick attach or also because they wish they had gotten a 4 wheel drive model. The other 10% are just selling because they need cash.

I could have possibly got a larger tractor just for more efficiency but after pros and cons I decided on the smaller version still have no regrets wish I could have justified the bigger tractor but don't regret the desicion to get the smaller one for financial reasons just made more sense

Truly excellent video and topic! Kubota B2650 with cab is my ride, and my first ever tractor. Two regrets I suppose. First, 3rd function. I have absolutely no use for it 3 years into my ownership. But, if I do have need of an accessory in the future, this will be expensive to remediate. Second is not knowing enough to have gotten a top-of-the-line seat. Mine is good, but an early 50’s back needs a little more tlc! 🤣 Keep up the excellent work and stay safe!

My 2020 LS MT225 came standard with a Skid Steer quick attach loader. This video is the first I have heard of LS having their own style quick attach.

It was my first time as well. Almost identical to a SSQA, but smaller.

@@GoodWorksTractors Could it have been the qa system off a mini skid track loader? Those work the same as the skid steer quick attach but are smaller to facilitate the smaller machines
