Omg! What a scrappy lil mfkr. RED is gonna be one to watch. He came ready for business. You can tell he's used to scrapping with bigger older guy's. He is fast and respectful of the sport. Thanks Mid for yet another great video. You're so appreciated💪

Another Midwest Wrestle covered eye popping match! When you remember if these kids try to bulk up it can change their weight/class...then know that those with natural wrestling builds have a leg up(see Caleb's upper back "architecture" @ (03:57) it makes for great game!

What an intense match! The video action quality is awesome, but the gray filter made the scene look a bit gloomy. Otherwise, still a great action video. Thanks, Midwest Wrestling!

Thank you, Jon. Just to clarify, I don't apply filters. For maximum flexibility in post-production, I shoot in a logarithmic picture profile called S-Log3/S-Gamut3.Cine. That format captures much more information than any phone or monitor can even display, and so it requires extensive color correction and color grading in the post-production process to align to the Rec.709 standard (common consumer displays like HDTVs), otherwise it will come out looking extremely desaturated. Although this creates an immense amount of additional work (and therefore one of the many reasons I'm still working on matches from 2021), the reason I don't shoot in a picture profile that is usable straight from camera is because lighting conditions at tournaments are notoriously bad (gyms aren't designed for video production like film studios are), and so I need the dynamic range provided by a logarithmic gamma in order to recover image areas lost to shadows (unlit dark spots) or lost to highlights (burned out bright spots). That being said, red is the most difficult color to correct, especially when overexposed. In this video, any time Caleb's singlet was in the direct path of overhead lighting, it turned into one giant eye-scorching red blob. The good news is that the logarithmic capture allowed me to recover those highlights, but the downside is that it required me to reduce the overall image brightness in order to make burned out features like that come back into the visible spectrum, hence the gray you mentioned. Hopefully viewers feel like it was a worthwhile trade off.

Score details can typically be found in each video description, e.g. "Caleb Oliver {R} of Bomber Wrestling Club defeated Mason Jones {G} of Senator Wrestling by Fall at 3:59." When a fall occurs, the score becomes irrelevant, which is why it is not listed in this case.

Caleb graduated in 2023. Unfortunately, his season was cut short the week leading up to Semi-State by a bad car accident. He had a good shot at qualifying for State finals as he had beaten one of the qualifiers earlier in the year. His father, James, is the one in the red shirt coaching him. James was a state placer back in the late 90's

🤔IMHO - I thought headgear was standard protection. Wrestling, like boxing, has many lessons to teach participants about life. Play by the rules, be the best you can be, you will win and you will lose - learn how to be gracious in both situations.

Check out the next NCAA wrestling tournament and you'll see how the sport is thriving at colleges across the country. On some campuses, (Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa, etc) the arenas are filled to capacity for matches. In addition, each state has a state wrestling tournament with its own "Parade of Champions". Overseas, wrestling remains the most popular sport in such lesser known places such as Dagestan, a part of the Russian Federation. The sport of wrestling is far from "dead".
