I'm 57 years old and I've been playing guitar since 1987. From a technical perspective, Sophie can play rings around me. The best thing about this montage is the clips that show her playing with a metronome. That's serious practice. Serious practice brings serious results. She starts playing at 9, and by the time she's 21, she's a shredder. Sophie, you are very talented, but what this video demonstrates most is the effort. Simply: The practice. You're an amazing player, and you obviously worked very hard to get there. Well deserved!
@chrisking6695

She isn't talented she's hard working and you're not. You wasted decades noodling around like most instead of targeting goals and working towards them with a metronome and now you pretend everyone who is better than you is more talented or whatever.

I was also 9 when I started playing guitar then piano at 11. Now at 65 I totally suck after putting them down. I blame long work hours and raising a daughter by myself. You’ve inspired me to pick it up again. Played every so often and still know my chords but finger tips have gone soft.

I'm only 27 but took a 5+ year break because of work. Got sick, had surgery, and been at home for a year so I picked it back up. The first few weeks were a grind, and my fingers even bled a little, but it was the best decision I've made since I've been off

Git it back...we can. I'm 72 and lost it thru developing essential tremors in my left hand. Now am determined to restore some of what I had thru diciplined scale work with the metronome. It can be done. This lady is complete inspiration.
I'm 44, been playing since I was 10, and you run circles around me young lady! Keep up the great playing on your incredible journey!
Congrats! Stick-to-it-ness is something most don't stick to.
It's not cringeworthy at all. I actually enjoyed seeing your progress and the guitar difficulty increasing. Such an awesome journey!!
Hi Sophie. You are a true inspiration. I am 53, and have been playing on and off since I was 16, and am still crap. You are proof that passion coupled with hard work can produce amazing results. There was nothing cringeworthy in this at all. Thanks for sharing. You just got a new fan and subscriber. I hope that if you are ever having a day with low inspiration, or just feeling a bit down, that you can remember how many of us look up to you as a guitar goddess, and can only wish that we had the drive and dedication that you have had through life to excel at a craft like you have. Keep Rockin' :)

Exactly! I noticed the same thing. She was always pretty good up until then for someone with her level of experience. But that 3 year ramp up was extraordinary. Basically between 4 years of playing and 7. Looks like that was her sweet spot. Gives me hope.

You shred cliffs of dovers at 16. I still can barely do the first 5 seconds of it at the same age. You rock! ❤️ 🎸
Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. You should be very proud. When I was eight years old I had great aspirations to be a talented guitarist also. That was 52 years ago. I’m no better than I was at age 8. You inspire me to try again at age 60. There are so many wonderful people like you on the internet willing to show what’s possible when you work hard at it. I love your videos. Bob
I like how humble you are..your extremely talented yet 0 ego. Your journey is interesting to watch as you start surrounded by other players and slowly they disappeared to the point your at home still going working on your craft and wow your dedication and hard work certainly payed off..one hell of a good player.bravo 👏

@Morbid Angel is better than Death you know all your doing is proving your missing the point right? Shredding is a skill and a really tough one nobody said it was all you have to do to be good but its a nice skill to have. Style over substance is the dumbest argument to make in an entirely subjective artform like music, if you can't appreciate alittle shred here and there then that's your problem but now your trying to make it other peoples problem by telling them what they should or shouldn't do. Your not the god of taste and your opinion is not the only valid one here.

Great playing. And the tone on ‘Crazy Diamond!’ Thanks for this, fantastic.
Just phenomenal Sophie!
Thank you for the journey, I wish I’d recorded my progress. Your achievements are appreciated. Everyone started somewhere and the early videos showed nothing more than someone falling in love with music. Well done. Cheers
It's awesome to see that your drive and determination as a youngster fed the feel and passion as you grew. As the skills developed, the passion was more easily conveyed, and we are the beneficiaries of all that. Thank you for being an example of what can be accomplished when you pour out everything you have and see it through to the end. But I can see and hear a new phase of your journey! So here's to the next 20 years!! It's all about feel now...so show us how you feel 🙏🙏🤘
Commitment to practice and development is abundantly evident. Bravo.
Amazing journey 👏 its so inspiring for all guitarists out there. Keep rocking
At 15 years old you started to shred!! It is amazing to see your evolution!! Saludos desde Mexico!
Quite a journey Sophie! You are amazingly talented and the passion you show while playing is enjoyable to watch! You make it look so easy! Keep on rockin young lady! Thanks for sharing! Much love! ❤️
Beautifull, just beautiful. I love watching these kinds of videos, where you can clearly experience the progression of not just hitting the notes, but becomming one with the guitar and playing the notes with tone and soul.
What an amazing journey, you rock!
The two Extreme tracks really showed your prowess. Those twelve years have paid dividends for you and may it continue long into the future. You have earned another subscriber.
Amazing transformation You can see you had the talent and that you applied yourself! Great work Great Artist! I love watching you play and the joy and fascination that’s within you! You are the best!
Fantastic Journey!! Shine On You Crazy Diamond!! You’re Awesome!!🎸🎶
You are an amazing example of consistency, and dedication. You gave me goosebumps.
That symphony of destruction solo was awesome
Another important part of your journey is the diversity in the music you play. It's important to not just focus on the genre you want to be in but also try other genres. You'll learn lots of techniques, patterns, and rhythms, which will make you a better guitarist in your favourite genre in the end. I didn't do it, progress was slow, and then I quit for 8 years due to limited time, studies, work and stuff. Only recently got back and it is frustrating to have to start from scratch again and fail even at songs I could play back in 2014. My biggest enemies back then were gallops and arpeggios/sweeps, still are but now I also can't do all of the other techniques anymore
that was awesome!. nothing to be embarrassed about! keep up the great work.
Brilliant, you're playing is fantastic. You've obviously worked very hard . Loved it all
Sensacional. Talentosa.
Excellent video montage. Cheers! You’re an excellent guitarist! I really enjoy your videos.
Absolutely loved the video I really enjoyed listening to your tone develop and mature, Great Job!
I literally just heard tranquility and it is my favorite song
Which era of Sophie did I like best? The Get the Funk Out Clip. You looked cool as hell and it was just an all around very natural vibe emanating from you. And you kicked ass playing the solo too. Very badass. My favourite clip of you. Edit: the hair was also really cool and I love all eras of Sophie.
Awesome Journey and thanks for sharing. Awesome player and one to influence us all. Keep up great playing.
All the effort and practice is highly noticeable with this progression from sear passion and willing to try to passion and just about nailing every singing note on the head ! Well done !!!!
luckily this isn't discouraging, if anything it's a reminder to be patient with oneself if you start later in life because it is harder to pick up

@chrisking6695

@@smkh2890 if you don't practice the right way, nope. She practiced with a metronome and that gave her the timing she needed to become fast. And she practiced scales and solos and lots of other stuff instead of jumping on the bed and playing 3 power chords and pretending to be a rock star which is what I did for most of my childhood.
I love slash, and this girl is heavily slash inspired. I LOVE IT!!! KEEP ROCKING ON!!! \m/

I started playing guitar 3 years ago at 37 and when I see people like Sophie and (you) JJ play some hard rock it makes me feel kind of discoraged and useless. No matter how quickly I improve and how much I feel like I'll never be good enough with my guitar playing. I wrote 3 crappy riffs so far not too many views on them and I am not sure what I can do to play faster and sound better. Finger tapping just seems to take me longer than usual to learn properly. I am thinking of switching from my first ever Gio Ibanez guitar to a Epiphone Les Paul in near future. Both of you are amazing guitar players and I give huge props to both of you.
