This song has such a feel good summer vibe, it never fails to put me in a better mood.
Hit me right in the heart strings with this one. My father who is not with us anymore used to jam this on his 85' Strat and we would all watch amazed cheering him on. He was one hell of a man. Died on 11/11/06 another Angel learned all His lessons. Thanks for this Soph

She’s been playing this song for many years and you can compare her progress from her video where she shows her guitar playing progress. It didn’t only take her a month, it literally took her many years! Go watch the video and you’ll see! Anyone who’s been playing guitar for many years can play this song if you spend a few years practicing it. And if you can’t, then your not a very good guitar player, that’s just facts! She makes great videos and is absolutely talented, but her saying it took her a month is 100% dishonest.
Sophie, I've been playing for 37 years and 'Cliffs of Dover' changed my life forever. It took me personally a couple years to get it. (we didn't have great resources to learn back then) Anyways, you're a true player and it's so awesome to witness how great you've become. Respect 👊🔥💯🖤😊
That was absolutely amazing - bought the CD when it first came out. I was mesmerized by the song - and your cover has inspired this 56 year old man to pick up the Strat and get back to learning this song!!

He wants to achieve a goal he gave up on once, not be the Next Big Thing. With Sophie's video slowed down to .25 and the guitar tabs, even if he has to do it a few notes at a time, I think it's both achievable and worthwhile. Just a few notes at a time. Pretty soon? Voila!

It'll be so worth it in the end, that intro is probably the hardest part of the whole song!
@kevliao
9 ай бұрын
If you can dominate the intro, the rest of the song isn't as hard. I'm now faced with the same task of learning this in a month (playing at Halloween party).
I had the privilege to see this performed live by Eric from a distance of about 10 feet many years ago. A friend of mine from high school knew him (I'm not sure how, anymore), and was comped several tickets to his show, and he invited myself and several other friends to come along, at a small venue in Houston. You really did it justice.
This was a great cover. I’ve listened to the original 1000 times and I can say you pretty much nailed it, but it also makes us realize that Eric Johnson’s tone and depth is really hard to replicate and is pretty much unmatchable. Thanks for sharing, we know it must’ve taken a ton of hard work to get it this good
I think the most mindmelting part of this, is how calm and laid back you seem playing this. Like, this seems like you’ve performed it 100 times. Good on you
We live near Eric in Central Texas and have seen him many many times at outdoor & indoor venues. One of my favorite guitarist & vocalist. He has a great A & B amp setup.💯 🔥🎸🔥
I saw Eric Johnson in concert back in the early 90's when he opened for RUSH, and when he played this song, I was an instant fan because up until that point I had not heard any of his music. You absolutely did a wonderful job on this song, thanks for sharing your talent with all of us.

Hi Sophie, I'm telling you that I've been following you for a while, I'm also a guitarist, I'll be 66 in July and I was part of the Rock movement of the 70s, but what surprises me the most is how naturally you play really difficult songs, you're much better than me. hahaha and I like to see you very young, you have everything, everything, technique, and you are a very beautiful woman: without further ado, I just congratulate you and send you a warm greeting from Argentina. Take care of yourself.
Having learned that song when I was younger, I can appreciate the effort it takes to play it. I never was able to play it that cleanly. Most use distortion to hide mistakes, but it is apparent that you have great timing and chops! Bravo & I need this ripx program!!!!
You did it, Sophie! It's great to see your guitar skills growing!!!!

Elegant Gypsy Suite muted solo section 2:45-4:31 is about the most challenging solo I can think of. stellar job on Dover Sophie!
Amazing job!!! I've been playing for over 27 yes now and I've only attempted to play a very small portion of this song and back in those days we didn't have what you kids have nowadays but after watching you play this, you've actually inspired me to learn this masterpiece!!! Thank you!!!!
She makes it look effortless, absolutely amazing.
i love watching people doing what they obviously love! it’s such a blast!
This song invokes tears of joy and your recital of it is no exception. Well done.
I tried so many years to learn to play-couldn't cut it. I bought this album when it came out, have listened to this song forever, and you hit it! Not just the musicianship, but the soul. Amazing, amazing job!
One of Eric Johnson's masterpiece. The song represents the freedom that's going on,on the nature landscape. Free to express our mind! 🥰
When I thought I could not love this girl more. Amazing tone and skills.
Absolutely wonderful. You took on a big challenge! So good to see young players gravitating to Eric's guitar playing and keeping it alive!
Wow... I wasn't expecting your cover to be this good. Totally amazing playing... so clean and precise. You clearly have total control of that instrument. I've been trying to learn the intro to this song off and on for literally years, and still don't have it quite right... that last descending lick at the very end drives me nuts! It's getting the articulation on the lower strings and making it sound clean is a life goal of mine. You've totally inspired me to work on it again.
This just completely blew me away! I bought the CD Ah Via Musicom when it first came out, and absolutely love Eric Johnson's music. You are truly a guitar playing Goddess! I'm 60 years old, and just started playing guitar a little over a year ago. Watching you play honestly brought tears to my eyes. There is hope for the future! 💕🙏
Brilliantly played! Tough one to play. Amazing song when it came out in 1990 and still sounds great 33 years later.

Outstanding, I'm surprised it only took you a month to learn such a mesmerising track, you made it look like you've been playing it for years. Great stuff!
This song brings me nothing but joy even in the most rude of moods. Today was no exception, well done!
I bought this CD when it first came out and it listened to it like many others a 1000 times.. I think it's the most powerful. 20 seconds of an opening of any song ever written. for rock. You did an incredible job. Absolutely incredible.
One of my all-time favorite tracks and you killed it. Absolutely banger.
I've played thousand times this music in Guitar Hero 3.. one of the best music in the game
ZOMG! This is now my favorite cover. Since I first heard this EJ masterpiece over 30 years ago it's been my holy grail. I've been playing for over 4 decades and I always return to these riffs and the opening solo which is gorgeous and spectacular. Your tone is wonderful.

Congrats, Sophie! Thanks for showing us your dedication and talent by covering this song!
great technique, effort, tone, lightning, beauty. really amazing. a piece of art indeed
That was so well executed, and you had some slight unique flares too, however your ending was unbelievably sublime!
This is one of my favorite songs ever, and you absolutely nailed it! Can't wait to see what you do next!
Wow! WOOOW!!! this is one of the most difficult songs to play i've ever heard, from a guitar player that masters technique, speed, sound, style and melody like almost no other in the known universe. You played it not just perfectly, but without any apparent effort. but as every guitarist knows, behind a perfect performance like this there are days, weeks or months of very hard preparation. I especially appreciated this aspect of your performance, the hard work and constant training that led you to play so smiling and relaxed. Awesome!
Definitely did it justice. This tune is in every play list I have when I'm out on the bike. Find a decent stretch of highway with some nice twisties and just crank this tune and the throttle. After listening to this , I want to hop on the road. Nice job.
Absolutely Brilliant! Best cover I have ever heard of this song.

I take it, that you've not seen or listened to Nili Brosh's version then?
Fan-freakin-tastic. First off, I just want to point out that your tone was absolutely spot on. Eric's tone is so iconic (and specific, as in "how new is the battery in the pedal" levels of specific), and you were able to capture it really well. This is especially true considering you were using a Strat the whole time, and he actually used two different guitars on the Ah Via Musicom version. ES-335 on most of it, with a Strat on the intro and part of the bridge. You mixed the sound really well to capture the EJ sound throughout. In the places where you deviated slightly from the studio version, everything was beautiful and melodic and definitely "EJ" in style, and he has probably never played certain parts of that song the same way twice anyway, so you really captured the soul and intention of the sections. This song will always hold a special place in my heart. My warm-up for a long time was the chorus part of it because it just feels so good to play. Probably in my top 3 favorite songs of all time, and I really love what you did with it.
Holy hell! After the first 2 seconds in, I knew I was in for something special, and I was not disappointed. After 30 seconds, I just closed my eyes and let your playing just overtake me :) GREAT JOB!!!
