12 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting A Township Tale

Ойындар

A Township Tale has been a popular hangout for many years over on the PC, but is now coming to the Oculus Quest July 15 2021. For those who don’t know its an online RPG light MMO that puts a heavy emphasis on scrounging for resources and crafting. And while it can be a bit of fun, it is absolutely brutal at explaining key gameplay mechanics and how many of its game systems even work. During my first few hours with the game I was so confused and frustrated by what the game just doesn’t explain It just about ruined the whole experience for me. As such so you don’t have to endure what I did during my review play, here are the things I wish I knew before starting out in a Township Tale.

    One thing I found out about the torch and getting stuck down in the mine with no resources, you can set your torch on the ground and use a flint and rock to re-light your torch without a fire.

  • @kimberlynaa.

    @kimberlynaa.

    3 жыл бұрын

    This is why I always carry flint on my front slot/dock for emergency lighting lol. I made the mistake of going into the mine (tutorial) and not having light since my torch went out... I was literally stuck and thankfully some other stranger passed along with a torch and I got out. I learned my lesson and now I carry flint in the front so I can quickly and easily light up my torch... Which I also combined with flint to light up easier and not have to carry two flint/rocks to light it up. Example: Craft a torch but also add flint in the "hammer position" so then you carry that torch that's combined with the flint and quickly grab your flint from the front slot and you light up your torch. My friend copied me because it makes it much easier to light up (: Idk if I made sense lol but yup xD

    Tip for anyone who needs it in the mines! Instead of torches, try to go to dust bowl and get a lantern. Fill it with logs/coal, rub 2 flints together next to it and done. It won’t stop for a long time. If you can’t do that, then bring a weapon into the mines. If you need your torch re lit then wait for a glowing bug thingy. Hold your torch next to it and hit it as it creates a spark. You’re welcome!

  • @MrKitKat_

    @MrKitKat_

    well uh lanterns have limitations it doesnt lighten up an area as much as it usually does compared to a lit torch or a flashlight depending on where it is shining. I like attaching lanterns to my backpack and when my torch goes out I would relight it with the lantern so that way the entire area doesnt go dark another strategy for this would be to just light the little pieces of dry grass found in the mines throw them into areas that are not lit yet (this will also help you find the way down alot easier) and when your torch goes out you immediately have something to relight it with i do this alot especially outside of crystal areas it makes life helluva lot easier

    Something I found myself always doing was making a stick with flint and grass on top, you can make as many as you want as long as you have a stock of sticks, grass, and flint (the most common items in the game) What you get is 2 torches you can always light/relight by banging them together, that also function as pickaxes, axes, and weapons It feels like it isnt worth the effort to make better items when the time investment is so incredibly high for such a low (and durability limited) reward Especially when making more flintaxes costs virtually nothing

    You can use the experimental raise your height in the Quest 2 settings to play seated! Then just hold the trigger to use the hand icon to pick up items individually! Will have to sit on the edge of your seat though to be able to scoop items with a pouch! Hope they let us reposition the belt with an update, to perfect the seated play using this method! Also, you can use grass to light off of your torch to throw down a trail of breadcrumbs and illuminate wider areas for battling and exploring the mines! When using the hand icon for planted items hold the trigger and grab as usual, but for things that are planted, you will see a opaque hand separate from your hand that indicates that you need to yank it out with some force after you grasp it!

    The crafting tip is appreciated. The only other thing I’d recommend is going to the mines before collecting wood for the blacksmith bridge. You need to find crafting papers and a axe mold as well as the mold for the thing that connects the axe head to your hilt. Having any axe better than a rusted one and/or flint axes will be a huge help. Edit: I’m glad to see your still active in this community after 2 years! 🎉

    I'm looking forward to the updates and seeing how the improvements increase the intuitiveness of the game. It is incredibly confusing to figure out and only after coming to search out tutorials and walkthroughs have things become far clearer. However despite the difficulty in just learning the mechanics of gameplay, I have found that to a good degree that challenge is part of the immersion. To a point. I like things being difficult and having to actually use our cognitive skills in ways that mirror IRL. It's just important that we have direction in some of the more complex processes that need to happen, or be able to comprehend what a recipe is actually trying to tell us. XD Other than that I absolutely love this game so far.

    Just wanted to let you know that if you add a piece of flint to that torch and hit a stone on it 1-3 times you can light it. As for crafting, yes there is little to no hand holding. I did learn some stuff in the video, However I did just happen to learn a lot of things by myself. Blacksmiths were completely new to me but I did it easy peasy with the only help I got being that I saw where fuel went. Once you learn the basics, it’s nice to join a public server and learn the ropes from other people! It’s not as rewarding when you haven’t unlocked some places yet, but definitely helpful.

    The lack of handholding is integral to the game's cooperative and social design. It means you have value as a blacksmith if you are the only one that knows their way around it. Teach others how to become a carpenter like a master and apprentice. Time and time again you will see games that were incredible social experiences be reduced to another mindless 'every player for themselves' experience. Keeping a lot of the mechanics hidden keeps it fresh and fuels a genuine cooperative experience. Likewise, having to bend down and pull grass out of the ground is intentional to boost immersion. Otherwise it's no different to playing with a gamepad. Tiring, sure, but it's supposed to be... you're doing physical labour...

    The VR is a good cardio work out. The grass being hard to pull not only adds to the immersion, but also keeps you active.

    Tip; you can teleport and walk at the same time to gain speed. It will help with avoiding entity or projectiles of some sort (just don’t do it that much since it will cram your hand for a bit if repeated)

    The standing up part can be easily cheated, sure is a pain in the whopping side, but as an Oculus Quest 2 Consumer ( aka I use it), i can say very well that there's a feature where you shrink your size and when you sit, you just use it and then use the assisted grip, it made my life easier when i found out And for those who see this comment, its holding down trigger, point til you see an eye ball, then grip, and for the elevating its one of the upper buttons and you hold it down and move your hand to the up and down, and adjust your size from there,

    I already know most of these but I liked it because I think first of all its just plain helpful but also because I think all players should know these things. Also like the Carpentry Table thing you had, I had a thing that really screwed me over: so basically I put some things into the wrong slot of the Furnace and didn't know about the lever on the side to pop the things out. So I just couldn't use it, and no videos said anything about it. So I just couldn't use the thing until I noticed the lever.
