If you want to see my video on what you SHOULD do while in Bangkok check it out here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmiOzJJ6m5SXd5c.html and yes, I am aware I pronounced tuk-tuk incorrectly :D but hey, you win some you lose some.

Cal McKinley Interesting. I stay in Bangkok so I can relate to many of the rules as it were. If you go to the movies you must stand for the king. Do not speak bad of the king. Not even on Facebook. Public shows of affection are actually frowned upon also. Interesting list. As a Farang I am viewed as ATM. Do not get scammed by Tuk Tuk, Motorcycle Taxis nor taxis. Be careful of people wanting to sell you drugs. Sad to say but I have been offered drugs from people of African descent. Not Thai. Be careful of pickpockets. However enjoy Thailand and just remember you are a foreigner in their country.

Awesome video .. brought back some great memories of bygone days. I was one of the lucky USAF folks that was stationed in Thailand back in the 1970's. I spent three great assignments and I miss it very much. Anyway, I know what you were saying about the underwear, but I went commando for most of my 42 months in country (I know, TMI) - jungle rot ain't nothing to mess with. Also, I'm guessing that Patpong has changed with the times and not for the better. I had some great experiences there but, as I was married at the time, I had certain constraints on my activities. Thanks again, really enjoyed it.

These rules are silly. Follow these rules instead: 1.Don't give money to the beggars. Specially the kid beggers. If you help one of them, 10 more will show up out of nowhere! 2. Always use protection. 3. If she asked for taxi money, give her if you are planning to see her again. 4. Don't rent anything.

I’ve been a dozen times and none of these are things. A motor taxi can rip you off just like a tuktuk just agree up front to the cost. If they quote you too high there are 400 more right there. If you don’t hang out with the girls there I feel sorry for you and I literally never wear underwear. This is just weird stuff. The people are great. Show respect and don’t be foolish or a sucker. You’ll get respect back.

The thing with identification happened to me whilst at a sketchy bar in Lat Phrao. The police raided the bar and then demanded our passports which we stupidly didn’t have. However, when they realised we were Thai boxers their attitude completely changed, they were laughing with us and being friendly and told us not to worry about ID so we were very lucky.

ive lived in Bangkok for 15 years ! shaking hands with Thai's is perfectly fine and you don't have to be paranoid about having to wai to everyone except if a Thai politely Wai's to you then politely Wai back in return. And to never go out without under wear is a bit extreme ! 90% of the time i don't wear under wear as the weather is Humid as Hell & have to let my little brother breathe ! But still i enjoyed this video , it was put together very well,

Hay fellow ...I have visited Bangkok 9 times and stayed each time for almost 2 weeks , so over all I stayed in bangkok for more than 4 months ....Let me correct some of your notes which might you have taken for your single visit .....Regarding Tuktuk it is not the scam of more money the real problem ...normally taxi , tuktuk , train .all the cheaper than most of the other countries in the world but what kills you is the bad smoke and the bad noise of this tuktuk .....I have been in contact with many Thai people and NON told me that whistling is bad omen .....regarding handshake ....of course Wai is more popular but shaking hands is never a disrespect or strange for them ...I never even for 1 time been asked by police an identification paper ...so I always put my passport at the hotel safe ....Police are polite and nice for tourists maybe rough for their own citizens specially the thieves

If I may add some context to #2 & #3, it is also frowned upon to lick Thai postage stamps (you're effectively licking the back of the King's head) and while I'm guessing it's illegal to use *any* fruit as a weapon in Thailand, it's definetily forbidden to carry durian in rental cars (it's in every contract) or store them in your hotel room.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I've lived here quite awhile and I always cringe when I see titles like this. But honestly, pretty much right on. I love how you mixed actual laws in with general tips. However, I would like to correct a couple of things. 7. The Patpong point is a personal thing. And I personally have taken many friends here to do a bit of street shopping and exploring. Not to mention the odd bar trip/experience. Bangkok's red light districts are truly a cultural phenomenon that everyone has to see imo. 8. Handshaking is perfectly fine. Especially in professional environments where farang (foreigners) are. Thai people are open and respectful of others customs and courtesies as well. The point you made about "wai" is a bit dated. As a foreigner has no idea if a person is of "lower" status. 9. PLEASE haggle respectfully. I've seen people arguing over 25 cents before. I'm not one to police how others spend their money but it leaves and extremely bad impression of us, Especially outside of tourist areas. When you spend more time in Bangkok you tend to stay away from tourist areas. When you get into locals areas, shops, and markets the prices are the same for everyone. 10. Photocopy is fine. It's actually not usually corrupt cops initiating these checks. BUT they are willing to look the other way for a price. Something you should be glad they are otherwise you end up in Thai jail. The last few years have produced a massive surge is "beg packers". Backpackers overstaying visas and begging throughout Thailand. And the government has started clamping down. If you "look" like a backpacker expect to get messed with. Usually it's all good. Great video brother. You ever make it back hit me up. I'll show you a different side to this city most dont even know exists. lol

Probably the best dont's video by an American. All common sense real world tips. Observe these tips, don't be loud, aggressive, demanding, disrespectful or challenging and you will have an amazing time. The no underpants law, although still actual law, is more urban myth. Thai police will often strip search any offender before arrest and this is why the law exists, Tip: don't do anything to fall foul of the Police.

Actually it is the law in Thailand and most other countries that as a foreigner that does not have permanent residency you are legally required to carry your passport with you at all times. As I said this is true in most countries including Western countries like the United States and Australia. But he is right that corrupt police all over South East Asia use this law to rip off foreigners.

Whistling at night in India is also considered weird because of the same reason you gave! & Stepping on currency is also disrespectful In India also you cannot say anything bad about gods whether hindu, muslim, christian or buddhist! In India you cannot disrespect a priest, monks etc. And till now I haven't seen anyone hugging a monk or any priest in India

I live in Thailand and had many Thais shake my hand without me offering first. As far as getting stared at if you whistle, you are going to get stared at period. It's took-took and not all of them are rip-offs, same with taxis.

Hey no joke about that durian fruit as a weapon. Saw 1 in action when a punk picked it up and used it as a makeshif knuckle duster. Man! that guys face looks like it went through a meat grinder.
